After teasing a ‘big’ announcement related to smartphones, India’s homegrown eCommerce marketplace announced its long-term partnership with Taiwan-based smartphone manufacturer Asus to launch products specially designed for Indian customers.

With an aim to help Asus reach the right audience and penetrate deeper in the Indian market, Flipkart will become the company’s premier partner and seller for smartphones. Along with being the primary sales channel for Asus Zenfones, and helping in sales and marketing, both the companies will collaborate for co-creating new Indian consumer-centric products.

Flipkart And Asus Partnership

Commenting on this partnership, Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy said, “Flipkart has driven the adoption of smartphones in India, and grown the market, through innovations and a deep sense of knowing what consumers want. With this partnership with Asus, we are multiplying those efforts to build smartphones truly customized for India.”

Flipkart, talking about its future plans as a platform for selling smartphones in India, said that it aims to own 40 percent of smartphone sales in India by 2020 and believes that the Asus partnership is a step in that direction.

As a part of this agreement, the first smartphone from Asus that will launch on Flipkart is Zenfone Max Pro M1, which will go on sale from April 23rd. While the company has not revealed much information related to the smartphone, it is known that the phone is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 636 processor. However, the phone’s specifications have leaked online, revealing what to expect from the device.
