Xiaomi and Chinese retailer Suning have both released a new teaser on their respective Weibo accounts. The two companies have confirmed that they have a “surprise” product waiting to be unleashed on May 10. It is speculated that the two companies could be collaborating to launch the Redmi S2.
A tech blog based in Czech Republic has already revealed the images of the real Redmi S2 handset. Moreover, a new report states that the handset has been spotted at the Mi Store in Prague. In China, it has recently bagged 3C and TENAA certifications which also suggests that the arrival of the Redmi S2 is close at hand.
The specifications of the Redmi S2 that have been leaked through its TENAA listing suggest that it will be a budget-friendly phone. Its design will be similar to the Mi 6X and Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphones. The front panel of the Redmi S2 features an 18:9 aspect ratio screen and the backside is fitted with a vertical dual camera at the top-left corner.
The Redmi S2 is likely to feature a 5.99-inch screen that offers HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. The Snapdragon 625 is expected to power the smartphone. The 2 GB, 3 GB and 4 GB RAM variants of the Redmi S2 are expected to respectively feature 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB of internal storage.
For photography, it is likely to feature 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual rear cameras. The front panel may feature 16-megapixel selfie camera. The handset may come loaded with Android 8.0 Oreo and MIUI 9 skin. A 3,080mAh battery may power the phone. It is expected to be priced around ~$175.
Since Xiaomi is yet to confirm “Redmi S2” moniker for the product that it will be launching on May 10, some rumors are claiming that the company may announce the in-house Surge S2 chipset. However, there are not many concrete evidences to prove that the rumored 16nm Surge S2 chipset will be unveiled on May 10.
