In an era where IoT-connected homes having several smart home gadgets reign supreme, Xiaomi is doing a beautiful job pushing several smart products that can be connected to the MIJIA app. The company has crowdfunded the Aqara Smart Curtain Motor (WiFi version) manufactured by its ecological chain partner Aqara.Aqara Smart Curtain Motor (WiFi version)

Aqara has got a number of smart curtain motor to its name. But as the name of this model implies, this is the version with support for WiFi connectivity. Design-wise, the Aqara Smart Curtain Motor (WiFi version) isn’t too different from the previous models except that you get WiFi connectivity in addition to connecting it to a gateway. Also, this version doesn’t have a built-in battery.

The smart curtain motor can be connected to the MIJIA app. When connected, the app can be set to switch open or close the curtains in the morning and evening. The user can even connect the curtain motor to the XiaoAI smart speaker and then the curtain can be opened and closed using voice prompt.Xiaomi Aqara Smart Curtain Motor (WiFi version)

In addition, you can even control the curtains at home while you are away. If you forgot to close the curtains or want to turn it open during a sunny day, you can do that via the mobile app from anywhere. The level you want to keep it opened can as well be controlled from the app. This is done by simply sliding a finger across the image of the curtain showing in the app. The curtain responds to the sliding action of the finger.Aqara Smart Curtain Motor (WiFi version)

Further, you don’t require a gateway to connect the device to the MIJIA app or smart speaker. However, if you want to link it with other IoT gadgets like the smart door and window sensor, wireless switch and Mijia smart door lock, you need to connect it to the gateway device.

As for the pricing, the Aqara Smart Curtain Motor (Wi-Fi version) is priced at 399 yuan for the single motor. There is also a combo offer in China which includes the Smart Motor, 3 meters straight rail and installation service for 899 yuan ($127).  Where the length of the window is longer than the 3-meter rail, the installer will provide the extra length.

The product is expected to start shipping in China on September 24, 2019. There is no word yet on when it will be available globally.
