Xiaomi recently launched two new smartphones in its home market — Mi 9 Pro 5G and Mi MIX Alpha. The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G became the cheapest 5G smartphone available for purchase in the Chinese market.

Now, the company has officially shared the teardown images of the Mi 9 Pro 5G, revealing what’s inside the smartphone and how certain things work, such as the liquid cooling technology.

When the device is opened up, you see that there’s a 30W custom chip for wireless charging support as well as a larger area for heat dissipation graphite embedded in the motherboard.

Further, it seems that the phone is sealed airtight thanks to the camera edge foam sealing. As for the camera sensors, there’s a 48-megapixel primary sensor from Sony, combined with a 12-megapixel portrait lens and a 16-megapixel super wide-angle lens. On the front side, you get a 20-megapixel snapper with support for AI-based beautification features.

The Mi 9 Pro 5G comes with a motherboard with a two-layer stacked design which carries the newly introduced 5G baseband and RF chip. The company has also used a 10 x 10 x 3.5 horizontal linear motor that can offer 10ms startup and braking time for a sensitive feedback when clicked. It is claimed to offer more than 100 different types of vibration effects to distinguish one from another.

The smartphone also has a 1.04cc large sound cavity for offering maximum loudness from the device without affecting the clarity or quality. The device is powered by a 4,000mAh battery, which covers up majority of the phone’s internal space.

As for the cooling system, it has a super large VC soaking plate that comes with 5 layers of graphite, high conductivity copper foil and thermal gel for an efficient dimensional cooling system. As per Xiaomi, using this system, the core temperature of the smartphone can be reduced by 10.2-degree which aims to meet the cooling needs for the 5G era.

 

The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G is the upgraded version of the Snapdragon 855 powered Xiaomi Mi 9 flagship phone that was announced in February this year. It comes equipped with a full HD+ resolution supporting S-AMOLED display of 6.4-inch, a tall aspect ratio of 19.5:9 aspect ratio and the phone also comes with an in-screen fingerprint reader.

It is powered by the faster 2.96GHz Snapdragon 855+ mobile platform with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, without support for expandable storage. The rear side of the phone features a Sony IMX586 48-megapixel triple camera setup that includes a 12-megapixel telephoto lens and a 16-megapixel superwide lens. It has a front-facing camera of 20-megapixel. The front and rear cameras are borrowed from the Xiaomi Mi 9 handset.

The smartphone is running MIUI 11 based on Android 9 Pie operating system. The device has a 4,000mAh battery that comes with support for some exciting features like 40W wired charging, 30W wireless charging and 10W reverse charging.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G comes in four models in the home market. The 8GB RAM + 128GB and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variants are respectively priced at 3,699 Yuan and 3,799 Yuan (~$532). The 12GB RAM + 256GB storage and 12GB RAM + 512GB storage editions respectively cost 4,099 Yuan (~$574) and 4,299 Yuan (~$602). It comes in two color options — Dream White and Titanium Black.
