Huawei‘s Mate 40 series of smartphones is the talk of the town lately. The company is going to announce the lineup on October 22 but they can’t stop the leaks from coming through. With all the info available so far, let’s take a look at the expected specifications, and prices of the lineup ahead of launch.

Render(Expected) Left: Mate 40 Pro series Right: Mate 40 Porsche design RS

So to clear it up one last time, the Huawei Mate 40 series will have 4 models as per recent leaks. However, a few rumors say that the first one of the list will be delayed a bit. The models are:

  • Huawei Mate 40
  • Huawei Mate 40 Pro
  • Huawei Mate 40 Pro+
  • Huawei Mate 40 Porsche Design RS

Huawei Mate 40 Series Expected Design

Going by the earlier leaks and rumors so far, we feel the Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, and Pro+ will share a similar design with a circular ring at the back. At the front though, all of them are likely ramping up to ditch the old bath-tub notch on the Mate 30 series with a dual punch-hole curved display.

However, the Porsche RS design will likely have an octagonal camera layout at the back. Apart from the leaked designs, the company’s latest official teaser itself hints at it. For the build, we can expect a metal frame sandwiched between Corning Gorilla Glass on either side. The Porsche design will reportedly have a “Porsche Design” and “Huawei” Logo on the rear panel. The possible color variants are mentioned below:

  • Huawei Mate 40 – Atleast Black, White(expected)
  • Huawei Mate 40 Pro– Black, Silver/Gray, Yellowish Orange, Green, White
  • Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ – White, Black
  • Huawei Mate 40 Porsche Design RS– White, Black

Huawei Mate 40 series Expected Specifications

Previously, the Mate 30 Pro models including the Porsche design had a slightly smaller display compared to the Vanilla Mate 30. Going by this, since we don’t exactly know the display specs of the Mate 40, we think it’s somewhere around the 6.76-inch that’s probably coming on both Pro, Pro+, and maybe the Porsche design as well. That said, we can expect an AMOLED curved display, at least FHD+ resolution(2722×1344 pixels on Pro), 90Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, recent leaks reveal that all of them could feature Kirin 9000 SoC onboard. This is a 5nm Octa-core chipset with an ARM’s Cortex-A77 likely as the prime core. It will probably have a clock speed of 3.13GHz, three other A77 cores at 2.04GHz, and 4xlow-performance cores. Mali-G78 GPU with 24-cores and an integrated 5G Modem are expected to tag along.

Mate 40 series Camera

Now, for cameras, leaks so far say the Mate 40 Pro has a triple-camera, but Penta-lens on the Pro+, and Porsche design RS. The design is likely a circular ring on Mate 40, Pro, Pro+ while the Porsche design, as usual, has a different cutout(Octagon this time).

The camera sensors of vanilla Mate 40 is a mystery. However, both the Pro models and the Porsche design will get an upgrade from the 40MP sensor on the Mate 30 Pro and have distortion-free ultra-wide, different zoom lenses, and more. All of them get a Color Temperature sensor, LED flash as common. Let’s take a look at them below:

  • Mate 40 Pro – 50MP Sony IMX700Y, 20MP Sony IMX718 ultra-wide, 12MP Sony 5x Optical IMX351Y, a laser-focus sensor.
  • Mate 40 Pro+ -50MP Sony IMX700Y, 20MP Sony IMX718 ultra-wide, 8MP 3x optical(mid-range), 8MP 10x optical(both Sony IMX520), a ToF sensor
  • Mate 40 Porsche design RS– (same sensors of Mate 40 Pro+), and a temperature measurement sensor.

Storage, Other features, and Price

That said, across the variants, we can expect Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6, SA/NSA 5G with HMS, GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS for connectivity. Leaks show the device will run Android 10 instead of 11 with EMUI 11 on top. A Battery leak on the Mate 40 Pro suggests, all the Pro variants including Porsche design will likely have a 4,400mAh battery with 65W charging via Type-C, and Wireless charging.

Storage-wise, leaks say Mate 40 Pro has 8/256GB, 8/512GB variants while Pro+. And Porsche design has 12GB RAM, and 256GB on Pro+, and 256/512GB on Porsche design respectively.

As for the price, Mate 40 Pro is said to start at 1100€, Pro+ at 1400€, and Porsche design RS at €2500 (vs €2095 of the predecessor).
