Last week, popular leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) tweeted an image containing the specs of an upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile SoC built on a 4nm fabrication process. This chip is said to go official as SM8450, however, its marketing name is a mystery for now. A few days later, we now have information regarding the availability of smartphones featuring this chipset.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Chip

TSMC is rumored to manufacture the forthcoming Qualcomm SM8450 4nm chip. The chipset is expected to enter production from Q3 2021.

Despite that, we may not see a smartphone powered by the successor of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 in the second half of 2021. This piece of information comes directly from Wang Teng Thomas. For those unware, this person is the Product Director at Xiaomi’s Redmi brand.

Xiaomi was the first OEM to launch a device (Mi 11) with the Snapdragon 888 SoC. The handset was unveiled at the end of December 2020. But it was widely available starting Q1 2021.

Hence, we could witness a similar situation this year. Anyway, it’s not known which company will bring the Qualcomm SM8450 SoC to the market first. But we should learn about it in the coming months.

This means any high-end Android smartphones releasing in the second half of 2021 like the rumored next-gen Xiaomi Mi MIX, vivo X70 series, and OnePlus 9T will mostly continue to use Snapdragon 888.
