Earlier this month, a couple of leaks surrounding what is said to be the successor of Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 888 chipset. The chipset codenamed SM8450 is said to be built on a 4nm process and is expected to power next-generation flagship phones.
The SM8450 has now appeared in the rumor mill again. Noted Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed that the upcoming 4nm Qualcomm chipset is already being sampled by many of the top Chinese phone manufacturers who may likely release models powered by the next-gen Qualcomm flagship. The tipster also disclosed that the enhancement on the upcoming chipset may be more than on last year’s Snapdragon 865 and SD 865+.
We can’t say how fast that can be for now but the earlier leak tips the chipset to feature Qualcomm’s new ARMv9 chip architecture with Kryo 780 cores. The chipset also features an Adreno 730 GPU, Adreno 665 Video Processing Unit (VPU), and Adreno 1195 Display Processing Unit (DPU). The chipset will also integrate a Spectra 680 ISP for image processing.
Further, the Snapdragon 888 successor will also feature a Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF system. The 5G modem was first announced in February this year and brings superior speed and support for up to 10Gbps speeds on both standalone and non-standalone 5G networks. The upcoming processor also brings a FastConnect 6900 chip that provides support for Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.
Qualcomm is expected to announce the Snapdragon 888 successor in the second half of the year.
