There is a new Energizer rugged smartphone and it has 5G, a first for the brand. The Energizer Hard Case G5 is made by Avenir Telecom, a licensee for the Energizer brand name.
The Energizer Hard Case G5 has a 6.3-inch FHD IPS display with a waterdrop notch and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The bezels are not the slimmest, most especially the lower bezel. The device has a rubberized body with reinforced corners to absorb shocks when it drops.
Powering the Energizer Hard Case G5 is a Dimensity 720 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There is a MicroSD card slot that allows for storage expansion. For the cameras, there is a 48MP main sensor, a 13MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 20MP night camera that allows for nighttime shots thanks to an infrared illuminator positioned near the 48MP sensor at the bottom. Inside the notch is an 8MP camera.
There is a 5000mAh battery inside the phone that charges via USB-C. There is no audio jack but the device has an FM radio. It also has NFC, dual SIM support, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The Hard Case G5 has an IP69 rating.
Avenir ships the phone with Android 11. It has been reported that the phone will be available in the fourth quarter of the year with a $600 price tag.
Energizer U680S
Avenir also launched a 4G smartphone called the Energizer Ultimate U680S but this is not a rugged phone like the Energizer Hard Case G5.
The budget phone priced at $140, has a 6.8-inch IPS LCD screen with a 1640 x 720 resolution and a waterdrop notch. There is a UNISOC SC9863A processor inside, a chipset found in many entry-level devices, and it is paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.
The Energizer Ultimate U680S has triple rear cameras – a 13MP main sensor, a 2MP sensor, and a VGA camera. A 5MP camera is in front for selfies. There is no fingerprint scanner but there is an audio jack and FM radio. It also has dual SIM support.
While most of the specs are not impressive, where the Energizer Ultimate U680S shines is in the battery department. It packs a 7000mAh battery that should last at least two days on a single charge. The charging speed is unknown but it charges via a USB-C port. It also runs Android 11 out of the box.
The Energizer Ultimate U680S will be available in Q4 too.
