OnePlus today launched the OnePlus 9RT. The phone is the successor to the OnePlus 9R that was released earlier this year and promises multiple meaningful upgrades. But prior to talking about the phone in the event, OnePlus shed a light on its sales figures for this year, and they were nothing short of surprising.

As per OnePlus founder Liu Zuohu, OnePlus has recorded a year-on-year growth of 257% in global smartphone sales in the past 6 months, or in the first half of 2021. China also recorded similar increase in the number of shipments with a growth rate of 124% compared to last year.

The company exhibited the highest growth in the US and in European markets while continuing to have the largest share of the high-end mobile phone market in India.

But perhaps the most exciting bit was that OnePlus is expected to hit 10 million units in terms of global sales, or at least that’s what Liu feels so.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise though considering OnePlus has been steadily integrating its resources with Oppo and is keen on expanding its smartphone portfolio further than ever before.

While OnePlus’ move to ColorOS and the ‘ditching’ of the fan-favorite OxygenOS hasn’t been well-received, the company has promised improved experience and better software support. Its latest flagship series comprised of the OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, and the OnePlus 9R all come pre-installed with ColorOS-based OxygenOS. But it remains to be seen if the consumers are willing to accept that.

Back in May, OnePlus had appointed Li Kaixin, former VP of Huawei Mobile China, as the Vice President of OnePlus. Li is known to have successfully led Huawei in China, helping the brand achieve tens of millions of sales. He now hopes to do the same for OnePlus and aid it in reaching the 10 million mark.
