Honor became an independent brand from Huawei a couple of years ago and the company has been launching new devices at regular intervals in an attempt to recapture the lost market share in China as well as globally.
It appears to have achieved its goal in the Chinese market. As per the new report coming from Canalys, Honor has emerged as the leading smartphone brand in terms of shipments in the Chinese market in the first quarter of this year.
The company shipped 15 million units of smartphones in Q1 2022 and managed to have a massive growth rate of 205 percent. OPPO, which also includes OnePlus, shipped 13.9 million units to grab the second spot in the market.
Apple closely comes in at the third position with 13.8 million shipments, making it into the top three smartphone brands list for the Chinese market. Vivo and Xiaomi grab the fourth and fifth positions with 12.2 million and 10.6 million shipments respectively.
Overall, the Chinese market witnessed a massive year-on-year decline of 18 percent and a month-to-month decline of 13 percent in the first quarter of this year as the market saw shipments of only 75.6 million units.
Along with launching new popular models like the Honor 60 and X30 series, the company has been focusing on regaining the market share and for that. Along with the online, Honor is also trying to expand its footprint in the offline space to reach more customers.
