Back in June 2022, we had reported on Xiaomi CEO and Founder, Lei Jun, saying that the new Xiaomi 12S series will not be passing through the DXOMark camera rating test. And now, we have an official response from the professional camera rating based firm.

Earlier today (19th September 2022), the CEO of DXOMark, Frédéric Guichard accepted an interview in which he stated that he is not addressing Xiaomi’s stance of not sending over smartphones for testing, but he will be answering some major questions from consumers on social media. Apparently, Xiaomi and some other manufacturers have decided to not send their new launches for camera testing this year.

DXOMARK

As per the CEO of DXOMark, the reason for less OEMs sending phones for testing isn’t because of any disputes with the tests themselves, rather, the brand are not sending over phones since its very hard for a new model to take the top spot in the DXOMark’s listing. He further added that only smartphones that score in the top are able to promote their camera test rankings. In other words, the tests only help out when the scores are high enough to be marketed. Frederic Guichar said that the revenue from its evaluation reports are also quite sizeable.

But despite this, it dose not sell any points or rankings on its platform and its business model is offering its service from its laboratories and technologies. The published scores on DXOMark depend only on the quality of the product and are not affected by whether a smartphone maker chooses to opt for the evaluation service. Although, it is worth noting that the camera rating brand also offers its services in terms of tweaking the cameras on smartphones. Basically, it helps optimize the smartphone sensors that should help them get better scores on their tests as well.
