The Head-Mounted Display prototype weighs about 175g and consists of an ultra-lightweight VR display and an ultra-thin eyepiece. The prototype reflects Sharp’s long-standing expertise in smartphone development. The gadget can be used for extended periods without stress and fatigue. It folds into a compact size and can be easily carried around.

In terms of quality, the VR display delivers 4K content (2K per eye) with smooth reproduction and a 120Hz refresh rate. Sharp says that the gadget delivers a truly immersive experience. It also incorporates Sharp’s RGB color camera module for ultra-fast focusing using a polymer lens. The image display function helps to deliver images of the surrounding real world in color. A pop-up feature allows the user to display the surrounding images in a separate window.

The Sharp Head-Mounted Display VR headset has two black & white cameras to support hand-tracking that converts hand movement to operations in the visible field. Image focusing is achieved by altering the thickness of the polymer lens and focusing is faster than the conventional models. This function allows for the operation of the headset without controllers.

The new Sharp VR prototype is expected to herald the development of new experiences with a mix of the real and virtual worlds. There are still many details lacking about the latest Sharp prototype. It is unclear when and whether the actual prototype will enter the market later. CES 2023 was from 5-8 January 2023 in Los Angeles. The event this year drew an array of heavy hitters in the tech firmament.
