The rumor mill has been gradually leaking information about Sony’s upcoming flagship phone, called the Xperia 1 V. A leaked image that gives the first look at the rear design of the phone has appeared today. The leaked image shows some of the changes that will be seen on the Xperia 1 V as compared to the Sony Xperia 1 V from last year.

A careful look at the camera island of the Xperia 1 V shows that it does not feature the ToF camera and the RGB IR sensor, which were available on the predecessor model. The slightly protruding camera island of the Xperia 1 V  has three cameras, an LED flash, a microphone, and ZEISS branding.

The third lens in the camera setup is a periscope zoom lens. On the right side of the camera module is an NFC logo, which indicates that the leaked shot belongs to the Xperia 1 V’s global version. The Sony logo is also available on the rear shell of the device. A previous report claimed that the device may come equipped with LG Innotek’s “Optical Telephoto Zoom Module,” which may offer up to 9x zoom.

The Sony Xperia 1 V will be a flagship phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. It is speculated that it will be the slimmest phone powered by the SD8G2 chip. Smartphone brands are expected to launch new phones at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 tech trade show, which will be held at the end of this month. At present, it is unclear whether the Xperia 1 V will be released at MWC 2023.

The Xperia 1 V will replace the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered Xperia 1 IV, which debuted in May 2022.
