Last year in May, Xiaomi launched a new e-reader called Duokan Pro II in the Chinese market with an aim to compete with the popular Amazon Kindle. The device was introduced with a large E-ink display, up to 6 weeks of standby, and a quad-core chipset. Now after almost a year, Xiaomi’s Duokan Pro II E-reader can be purchased in the global market as well. Here are the details.

Interested shoppers can now buy Xiaomi’s latest e-reader—the Duokan Pro II— through e-commerce website Good e-Reader for $299.99. The price of the device is significantly higher than its cost in China, where Xiaomi sells it for 1,299 Yuan, which is equivalent to $188. However, when purchasing the device from Good e-Reader, it is important to note that there is an additional charge of $29.99 for shipping.

To recall, the reader tablet comes with a 7.8-inch flat E-ink display offering a resolution of 1872 x 1404 pixels. The panel has a 300 PPI screen density and a 24-level cold and warm two-color reading light. Design-wise, the e-book reader looks slim with a thickness of 7mm and weighs 250 grams. It gets an RK3566 quad-core chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Xiaomi claimed the Duokan Pro II has a 109% higher system response speed. The device features a 3,200mAh battery that should offer up to 6 weeks of standby. There’s support for built-in voice search and the Baidu network, however, these features will be useless in the global market. It also comes with WLAN book transfer, Bluetooth book transfer, and PDF rearrangement support. The reader can run formats like EPUB, PDF, TXT, EXCEL, and PPT.
