On March 24th, Kuba Wojciechowski, a reputable source and developer, shared some exciting news about Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor on Twitter. According to Wojciechowski, the model number of the processor is “SM8650,” while its internal code name goes by the names “Lanai” or “Pineapple.”

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

This third-generation Snapdragon processor features a unique 2+3+2+1 architecture, though specific details regarding clock frequencies remain unclear. As per IT Home, the core configuration is as follows:

  • 2 Arm “silver” cores named “Hayes” (A5xx)
  • 3 Arm “gold” cores named “Hunter” (A7xx)
  • 2 Arm “titanium” cores named “Hunter” (A7xx)
  • 1 Arm “gold+” core named “Hunter ELP” (Xn)

The processor will not support 32-bit Android apps and games since the chipset lacks associated CPU cores, necessitating developers to update their apps to the 64-bit architecture.

Furthermore, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is also equipped with an Adreno 750 GPU (Adreno Gen 7.9.0) clocked at 770MHz, though the official flagship model’s clock frequency could potentially be higher.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is compatible with Android 14 and Linux Kernel 6.1, and is mass-produced through TSMC‘s improved 4nm process or Samsung’s 3nm process. These exciting developments will surely be a game-changer in the tech industry, and we can’t wait to see what new possibilities this processor will unlock.
