After making a comeback in the flagship smartphone market with the Meizu 20 series, it seems the Geely-owned company is now planning to throw its hat in the foldable phone category. Meizu’s vice president recently confirmed the company will launch a folding smartphone by the end of this year and we even saw a patent for the same. Now while we wait for more concrete information, a tipster has revealed the first Meizu foldable will arrive with a whopping 200MP main camera.

As per a screenshot shared by WHYLAB on Weibo, the upcoming Meizu foldable, likely to be called Meizu 20 Fold, will be equipped with a 200MP main shooter. The smartphone can be seen to be linked with the ISOCELL HP1 sensor, which is older than the latest HP2 found on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Nevertheless, the sensor is said to offer impressive capabilities like 8K recording, high-end pixel-binning, and fast auto-focus.

Meizu 20 Fold camera

This could give the Meizu 20 Fold an upper hand over the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5, at least in the camera department. But that’s just a far-fetched assumption because, without proper ISP and software to back it, even a 200MP camera sensor is barely useful over other sensors. The brand’s latest flagship— the Meizu 20 Pro— comes with up to 50MP main cameras, however, we can’t comment on its photography performance as of yet.

Meizu Foldable

Details about the Meizu foldable are pretty limited. A recent patent has suggested that it may take the form of a flip phone, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip models, and may come with a new hinge design. We should be learning more about the smartphone in the days to come. Stay tuned for the updates.
