In its ongoing commitment to creating a safe and inclusive gaming environment, especially with gaming becoming mainstream day by day, Xbox has unveiled a groundbreaking innovation: a voice reporting feature that allows players to capture and report inappropriate voice activity during multiplayer games. Available on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, this feature aims to address concerns surrounding verbal abuse, ensuring that players can enjoy their gaming experiences free from hate or harassment (which in reality is an extremely hard thing to achieve).

The feature will initially roll out to Alpha and Alpha-skip Xbox Insiders

Understanding the significance of interactions outside of a player’s friend network, Xbox targeted in-game voice chat as a key area for improvement. By making this feature available across their gaming platforms, Xbox ensures that players have the necessary tools to report any instances of misconduct in any multiplayer chat setting, including backwards-compatible titles from Xbox 360.

The new voice reporting experience provides the Xbox Safety Team with crucial context to make informed decisions in line with the platform’s Community Standards. Players can capture a 60-second video clip of an in-game voice incident that violates these standards and submit it as evidence for review. This evidence-based approach enhances the enforcement process, creating a safer and more supportive environment for all players.

To prioritize user privacy and data security, Xbox has implemented extra-strict measures aligned with the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Captured clips are solely for content moderation purposes and remain inaccessible and unshareable by anyone except the reporting player. Additionally, these clips are retained on the player’s console for 24 online hours, providing flexibility to submit reports at their convenience.

Xbox has actively sought community input and feedback, consulting a diverse range of members, including Xbox Ambassadors, to gather insights and enhance player protection. Ambassadors have praised Xbox’s dedication to reducing toxicity and cultivating a positive environment for players of all genders, ages, and backgrounds.

The voice reporting feature will initially roll out to Alpha and Alpha-skip Xbox Insiders in select English-language markets, with Xbox encouraging all players to provide feedback for further improvement. The platform is actively working on expanding language support to reach a wider audience.
