Microsoft has been making headlines for its massive 69 billion US Dollars deal to acquire Activision Blizzard, which is the largest deal in gaming history. But apart from acquiring the gaming studio, the company seems to be planning some major changes to its existing Xbox series of consoles as well.

Next-gen Xbox may offer a disc-less model like the Sony PS5

The American tech giant is looking to make a notable design change in an upcoming Xbox console. During a podcast interview, Shpeshal Nick stated that sources close to the matter have revealed that Microsoft will soon launch an Xbox Series X Digital edition that doesn’t house a disc drive. This would make it similar to the PlayStation 5 Digital edition.

The Xbox Series X without a disc drive would mean that it would be cheaper than a regular Series X console. Nick said that the brand is working on this model since a “lot of people have wanted for a while”. Apart from this, he added that Microsoft also has plans for other hardware in 2025. Unfortunately, he did not divulge any finer details regarding these upcoming products.

As of right now, Sony is rumored to be working on a PS5 Pro/PS6 refresh while Nintendo is believed to be planning a Switch 2 model. Based on the current timeline, these might arrive sometime next year or around 2026. This is all the information we have at the moment so stick around for more updates.
