Shenzhen-based automaker BYD has reached a remarkable milestone, rolling off its 5 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) on August 9th. The company’s achievement marks a significant moment in the automotive industry, as BYD becomes the world’s first automaker to hit this impressive mark. The milestone vehicle, a DENZA N7, was unveiled at a ceremony held at BYD’s global headquarters.

Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD, expressed his elation at the historic event, emphasizing the company’s gratitude towards customers worldwide for their trust in their products. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of industry partners and the dedication of BYD’s employees, whose hard work contributed to reaching this remarkable landmark.

BYD’s groundbreaking accomplishment entails the production of its 5 millionth NEV within a span of 13 years for the initial million, followed by a mere 18 months for the subsequent three million, and a remarkable 9 months to hit the 5 million milestone. The surge continued, with 2022 experiencing sales surpassing 1.86 million. Momentum carried into 2023, as 1.5 million units were sold between January and July, including a noteworthy 92,469 units overseas – a figure exceeding total overseas sales for 2022.

BYD’s impact extends globally, with NEVs now in over 54 countries and electric public transport solutions operational in 400 cities across 70 countries. The company’s innovative drive is evident in milestones like the Blade Battery, DM-i Super Hybrid System, and e-Platform 3.0, backed by over 40,000 patents filed globally. With plans for three new factories in Brazil and a steadfast commitment to eco-friendly mobility, BYD is accelerating the shift toward a greener future, aligning with its vision to Cool the Earth by 1°C.
