Rumors about the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 are still circulating. For example we recently reported that the upcoming handheld was shown to a select group of press at Gamescom 2023. However, at the time, this was just an allegation. Now, these leaks have been confirmed. Moreover, not only was the Nintendo Switch 2 shown, but also a special version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, released in 2017. Here are the details…

Nintendo is closer to launching a Switch 2 than you think

Eurogamer reported that developer presentations for Nintendo Switch 2 took place at Gamescom 2023. Partners were shown tech demos of how well the system is designed to run. One of the demos was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a launch title for the Nintendo Switch. The 2017 version of the game was already very successful and ran at 60 FPS on the console. It is unclear why Nintendo decided to remake the game.

Nintendo Switch 2

Switch 2 demo is a souped-up version of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which runs at a higher quality than the original Switch. This shows that the Switch 2 will be much more powerful than its predecessor. Many people thought that the tech demo was a remastered version of Breath of the Wild coming with the Switch 2. However, it is important to remember that this is just a tech demo, and there is no indication that the game will be re-released. The real issue is that the Switch 2 is ready to play games, which suggests that the console’s announcement is imminent.

Nintendo has yet to publicly discuss plans for its inevitable Switch successor, though its new hardware is widely expected to launch at some point in 2024. Publicly, the company has announced a strong line-up of games to see the current Switch through the rest of 2023 and into the start of next year, with the impressive-looking Super Mario Bros. Wonder, a Super Mario RPG remake and a new WarioWare all coming this side of Christmas.
