Apple‘s next-gen flagship smartphone launch is just around the corner. The company will unveil the brand-new iPhone 15 lineup next week, so here’s a detailed roundup of everything we know about the higher-end iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max (also rumored to be called the iPhone 15 Ultra).

Apple iPhone 15 Pro & 15 Pro Max/Ultra: Design & Display

One of the more notable changes arriving in the iPhone 15 lineup is the improvements in design. The more expensive Pro models are expected to shift away from a stainless steel to a titanium chassis. This will make the devices lighter than the previous generation while also making them stronger. Notably, titanium is already being used in the Apple Watch lineup, so it isn’t the first time the company is working with such materials.

Another major design change is the shift to a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. The upcoming iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models might also feature a display with thinner bezels, measuring just 1.55mm which is thinner than the 2.17mm on the iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 15 Pro series was initially rumored to feature solid-state buttons, but these plans have reportedly been scrapped due to technical issues.

These buttons would replace the physical buttons and would employ haptic feedback to mimic the feel of a button press. But while the buttons aren’t changing, a new one might be added to the Pro models. Leaks have hinted at the new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max possibly featuring an Action button, instead of the mute slider.

This action button may be located near the volume rockers and help perform quick tasks like launching a camera and more. On the front, the iPhone 15 Pro series is expected to feature an OLED panel that has a power-efficient display driver chip. The Pro will sport a 6.1-inch panel while the Pro Max will feature a taller 6.7-inch screen that supports Face ID and Dynamic Island cutout. The panel is expected to feature LIPO technology, which was first used in the Apple Watch Series 7.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro Series: Specs

Under the hood, both models will be equipped with the Apple A17 Bionic chipset that is based on a 3nm process and offers around 10 to 15 percent performance boost over the previous-gen chip. Unlike their predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max may feature a higher 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM instead of 6GB. The RAM isn’t the only aspect getting a bump, as the base storage is also expected to rise from 128GB to 256GB, maxing out at 2TB.

The iPhone 14 Pro is rumored to be powered by a 3,650mAh battery while the iPhone 15 Pro Max may house a 4,952mAh battery pack, which are both larger than the iPhone 14 Pro series. Rumors have hinted that the upcoming iPhone Pro series could feature 35W fast charging. On the rear, Apple will likely upgrade the camera hardware. The iPhone 15 Pro Max may arrive with a nearly 1-inch camera sensor that has a 48-megapixel sensor, sticking with the Sony IMX803. Earlier reports claimed that the upcoming iPhones may have a periscope lens as well, which would enable improved zoom capabilities.
