Apple may have a big iPad reveal coming in early May, as covered previously here. Now, it looks like new iPads aren’t the only stars of the show. Here’s what the rumor mill is churning out.

Digging through the iPadOS 17.5 developer beta, folks at 9to5Mac unearthed clues about a possible Apple Pencil 3. The big feature? A “squeeze” gesture that might let you instantly add stuff like images, signatures, or text boxes to your notes or drawings. This is a major upgrade over the current Pencil 2, which only detects pressure on the tip, not the body. The most recent update to the Find My app now supports pairing with unreleased hardware, possibly the Pencil 3, meaning you might soon track down your lost stylus. Plus, iPadOS 17.4 introduced a new PencilKit API (a tool for developers to make apps Pencil-friendly). While details are scarce, rumors whisper about features like interchangeable magnetic tips for the Pencil 3.

Aside from the Pencil 3 report, Apple might also unveil a new magic keyboard

Bloomberg’s report aligns with these rumors, suggesting a major Apple iPad launch event in early May. This event might not just be about the tablets themselves – a new Apple Pencil 3 and a redesigned Magic Keyboard are also rumored to be crashing the party. The new Magic Keyboard could offer a more laptop-like experience, ideal for those who use their iPads for work.

The rumor mill is also buzzing about the specs of these new iPads. The iPad Pro might get a sleek redesign with an OLED display and a powerful M3 chip, marking a significant performance boost. We previously covered a piece on Apple refreshing its iPad lineup with OLED displays, it seems we might be closer to the timeline than we thought. The iPad Air, on the other hand, might keep its current design but get an upgrade to the M2 chip.

With all these leaks swirling around, it’s clear Apple’s upcoming iPad lineup could bring some exciting features. Stay tuned for the official reveal in May (or so we hope)!
