As per latest reports, the OPPO Find X7 Ultra just got a big upgrade with the latest software update (PHY110_14.0.1.512/CN01). This update brings support for the next generation of mobile network technology – 5.5G, also known as 5G-Advanced. This development comes shortly after China Mobile’s official launch of its 5G-A (5.5G) network on March 28th. As covered here previously, the OPPO Find X7 series holds the distinction of being the first phone lineup to support this tech across all its models.

5.5G is more of an advanced version of 5G networking, with higher peak download speeds.

What exactly is 5.5G? It represents a crucial step towards 6G, offering a significant leap in network capabilities compared to traditional 5G. We’re talking a 10-fold improvement in speed, latency, connection capacity, and energy efficiency. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect:

  • Peak download speeds reaching 10 Gigabits per second
  • Ultra-low latency in the millisecond range
  • Massive connectivity for up to 100 billion IoT devices
  • Integration with aerospace technology

The race for 5.5G deployment is heating up, with all three major Chinese carriers vying for dominance. While the OPPO Find X7 series takes the lead, other phone manufacturers are expected to follow suit. These include the vivo X Fold3 series, iQOO 12 series, and Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Interestingly, Honor claims its entire Magic6 series is already compatible with 5.5G networks, although it lacks the official 5G-A branding.

The initial rollout of 5.5G network coverage will target 100 major cities across China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan and others. With 5.5G promising unparalleled speed, responsiveness, and connectivity, it’s an exciting time to be a mobile phone user in China.
