Huawei and BAIC are the joint backers of the Stelato EV brand that debuted the Stelato S9 at the Beijing Motor Show. The new luxury EV is coming on the heels of the earlier Huawei-backed Aito M9 which was built by Aito. BAIC Bluepark had previously stated that the upcoming EV will be a sedan for the premium market, back in February 2024.
Stelato is jointly owned by Huawei and BAIC BluePark. BluePark is the EV arm of the Beijing Automotive Group. The Stelato S9 is a sleek EV with features well suited for the higher end of the price spectrum. The EV has 3,460mm of usable space in its cabin for maximal comfort. Its potential competitors are heavy hitters like the Mercedes S-Class, Audi A8L, and the BMW 7 Series.
Two versions of the model are available – a single rear motor with a maximum power output of 227kW and a dual motor option with the additional front motor delivering a maximum power output of 158kW. The total power output of the dual-motor version of the S9 has not been specified but it could reach 385kW.
The Stelato S9 has digital rear mirrors and 21-inch multi-spoke wheels. It has dimensions of 5,160 x 1,987 x 1,486 mm and a wheelbase of 3,050mm. The EV uses Li-ion ternary and Li-ion ternary + lithium iron manganese phosphate battery technology developed by CATL. The battery capacity of the model is yet to be specified but it is expected to pack a decent range as a premium model.
