Sonos has officially entered the high-end headphone market with the introduction of the Sonos Ace, their first entry into over-ear noise-cancelling headphones. The Ace boasts features that position it directly against established names like Bose and Sony.

The headphones are available for pre-order, with a general release slated for June 5th.

Custom 40mm drivers promise rich and detailed audio, while eight microphones work in concert to actively eliminate unwanted noise. An ambient sound mode allows wearers to stay aware of their surroundings when needed. The Sonos Ace embraces immersive listening experiences with support for spatial audio and Dolby Atmos, making it ideal for movies, music, and even gaming. Lossless audio playback is ensured through both Bluetooth and wired USB-C connections.

Battery life is impressive, lasting up to 30 hours with noise cancellation or ambient sound mode enabled. A quick 3-minute charge provides 3 hours of playback time for those who need a power boost on the go. Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity guarantees a stable and reliable connection, while physical buttons offer intuitive control over volume, playback, and noise cancellation settings.

The 9to5Mac reviewer highlights the balance between weight and comfort that Sonos achieves with the Ace. While remaining lightweight at 312 grams (even lighter than AirPods Max), the headphones incorporate high-quality materials like stainless steel for a premium feel. Memory foam earcups and an over-ear design prioritize comfort for extended listening sessions. The modular design is a thoughtful touch, allowing for easy replacement of earcups down the line.

A departure from most Sonos products, the Ace utilizes Bluetooth for connectivity instead of Wi-Fi. Each pair includes a matching carrying case, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and a 3.5mm jack adapter.

The Sonos Ace is available for pre-order now at $449 and is set for a general release on June 5th.
