Android 15 release is around the corner, and brands are already preparing for it. Xiaomi is one of them and is reportedly working on a new version of its custom skin — HyperOS 2.0. It is expected to be based on Android 15 and is said to bring plenty of upgrades, UI changes, and new features.
Thanks to past leaks, we already have information about what HyperOS 2.0 will offer and the changes it’ll bring. In addition to that, you’ll also learn about the potential release date and eligible devices in this post.
What’s New in HyperOS 2.0?
HyperOS was released last year, and it was quite clear that the company’s focus is on giving a minimalistic experience and a deeply connected ecosystem to manage all your Xiaomi devices. Naturally, you can expect improvements in these areas. But there’ll be a lot to look forward to in HyperOS 2.0.
According to a recent leak, Xiaomi might be adding a new feature to HyperOS 2.0 that will allow users to scan for hidden cameras. It is said to use WLAN signals to detect cameras nearby. No such feature is currently offered by any smartphone brand. If this feature actually comes to HyperOS, it’ll be a big boost to user privacy.
Another leak revealed that Xiaomi will offer increased virtual RAM (Memory Extension) up to 16GB, while it will be 6GB by default. More virtual RAM means more space for active apps, hence better multitasking.
It’s unlikely that all Xiaomi devices will get up to 16GB Memory Extension because of storage and hardware limitations. Hence, I assume that’ll only come to high-end and select mid-range phones.
Xiaomi is also reportedly working on a redesigned Settings homepage. Leaked screenshots (see below) reveal that HyperOS 2.0 could offer a card-like experience instead of the thin line-separated segments Xiaomi has been using for years.
The new Settings homepage in leaked images looks modern. It will not just provide better aesthetics but also ensure smoother navigation and fluency.
Xiaomi is also said to be working on bringing a ripple effect to the upcoming version of HyperOS. It shows up when a user presses any volume keys, adding to a better user experience. This visual effect was introduced in the iOS 18 beta and could make its way to Xiaomi phones with the HyperOS 2.0 update.
A small but helpful feature that might come to HyperOS 2.0 is the ability to turn off the lock screen editor. You might already know that the lock screen editor comes up when you tap and hold the empty location on the lock screen. If this happens to you accidentally multiple times every day, it can be annoying. Hence, it’s a good move to let users decide if they want to keep it or not.
These are leaked features that might come to HyperOS 2.0. I’m sure Xiaomi has more in store, which will be unveiled at the HyperOS 2.0 release. Besides those HyperOS-exclusive features, there will be new features and enhancements from Android 15, such as satellite messaging, theft detection lock, app archiving, app pairs, and more. HyperOS 2.0: When Is It Coming?
Xiaomi hasn’t yet revealed a release date or timeline for HyperOS 2.0. However, a recent leak suggests it will be released around October, the same month HyperOS 1.0 was released in the previous year.
Thankfully, not everyone has to wait until the official release to get a taste of Android 15, as the beta program is already out for several devices, including Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 13T Pro, and Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4. If you have any of these Xiaomi devices, you can participate in the Android 15 beta program and test new features ahead of the public release.
Android 15 is currently going through the platform stability phase. It’s the final phase of development, in which Google removes bugs and adds final touches to the new OS before the stable release.
The stable version of Android 15 is expected to be released in October; the same month, we might see Xiaomi releasing HyperOS 2.0.
