Google’s Foldable Fails Big Once Again: Almost Catches Fire This Time
Known YouTuber JerryRigEverything recently shared a new video where they put the Pixel 10 Pro Fold through his extreme durability test. He claimed that Google’s most expensive smartphone might be the weakest foldable phone he has ever tested. Starting with the IP68 rating, Google impressed with the first ever smartphone with a dustproof design. But in the video, Zack noted that the display is dustproof; however, the hinge is “definitely” not, as you can hear a nasty crunch, which likely caused finer particles to make their way inside the folding mechanism.
Things also get worse when we get to the bend test. Despite the structural weakness caused by the antenna lines near the hinge on its predecessors, Google decided to change nothing with its latest Pixel 10 Pro Fold. So unsurprisingly, the device snapped on this antenna line when pushed to its limit. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 received plenty of praise during this test, with an impressively tough design.
All of this leads to the worst part of this video, where the $1,799 Pixel foldable starts smoking after the battery integrity gets breached during the bend test. JRE states that he subjects all of the smartphone to the same level lof torture, but this is the first time in his decade long stress testing career that a smartphone from a major brand has actually blown up.
