Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G vs Realme 12 Pro Plus 5G: Which is the right choice at ₹30,000

Earlier this month, Oppo debuted the F27 Pro+ smartphone (full review) in the Indian mid-range segment. The device has landed in the sub-₹30,000 price range, which places it against competitors like the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus and the Realme 12 Pro Plus 5G. Since we have already compared the F27 Pro+ against the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus, we will put it against the Realme 12 Pro Plus 5G in this article.

Design

While the Realme 12 Pro+ 5G offers a well-balanced set of features, Oppo has particularly emphasized the design aspect of the F27 Pro Plus—and it’s not just about aesthetics. The F27 Pro Plus is the first smartphone in India to feature an IP69 (and IP68) water and dust resistance rating. This is the highest IP rating available, meaning the device can withstand complete submersion in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes and endure close-range exposure to high-pressure, high-temperature water jets, such as those from a hose.

Moreover, the device’s body has a military-grade shock resistance certification (MIL-STD-810H) and is constructed with a 360° Armour Body for superior drop protection. In addition to this touch exterior, Oppo has provided a vegan leather finish to the device.

The Realme 12 Pro Plus also comes with a vegan leather back, however, it only features an IP65 dust and water resistance, which means that the device is dust-tight, however, it cannot withstand submersion or high-pressure water jets. On the front, the device comes with a secondary tempered high-strength glass, which falls behind in comparison to the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the Oppo F27 Pro+.

Display & performance

Both smartphones feature Curved AMOLED displays measuring around 6.7 inches. Both offer an FHD+ resolution with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 240 Hz touch sampling rate, and a peak brightness of 950 nits. Both feature an under-display fingerprint sensor.

As for specifications, the Oppo device comes with a Dimensity 7050, while the Realme offering has a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip. Surprisingly, these chips are not that far apart in performance, however, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 has a 26% lead in multi-core performance. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 is also slightly better for gaming than the Dimensity 7050.

Both devices ship with a maximum of 256GB storage, however, the Realme offering has a 12GB RAM variant while the Oppo device comes with 8GB RAM. So in terms of daily performance, users won’t notice a difference, however, the Realme 12 Pro Plus will give a slightly better performance in intensive tasks like gaming. As for the battery, both devices offer the same 5,000mAh capacity with 67W fast charging support.

Cameras

The camera department is where the Realme 12 Pro Plus 5G pretty much outclasses the Oppo F27 Pro+. It comes with an OIS-assisted 50MP Sony IMX890 primary sensor, an OIS-assisted 64MP OmniVision OV64B 3x periscope telephoto shooter, an 8MP ultrawide unit, and a 32MP selfie camera.

In comparison, the Oppo F27 Pro+ only has two cameras at the back, which includes the 64-megapixel primary and 2-megapixel marco sensors. For selfies and video calls, you get an 8-megapixel camera.

Pricing

The Oppo F27 Pro+ 5G is available in two storage options: 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, priced at ₹27,999, and 8GB RAM with 256GB storage, priced at ₹29,999. In contrast, the Realme 12 Pro Plus is offered in three memory configurations in India: 8GB RAM for ₹29,999 ($360), 8GB RAM with 256GB storage for ₹31,999 ($385), and 12GB RAM with 256GB storage for ₹33,999 (~$410). However, the 8GB RAM with 256GB storage variant of the Realme 12 Pro Plus is currently available at a discounted price of ₹29,999 for a few more days, matching the price of the Oppo F27 Pro+ 5G.

Verdict

The Realme device is an overall better offering, mainly due to its powerful camera system, It also has a slightly better processor that will be a better pick if you like to game on your smartphone. The display and battery are identical.

That said, if you are looking for a phone that can withstand harsh weather and some accidental drops, then there is no better option than the F27 Pro+ at this price range.

Several reports have claimed that the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro is the next OnePlus phone for the Chinese market. It is likely that the brand may roll out official teasers of the phone starting this week. The Chinese text describes that the Ace 3 Pro’s display will offer enhanced eye protection. It will have a 50-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera unit and a 16-megapixel front camera. However, these details are not mentioned in the leak.

World’s Largest Acrylic Sphere Gets Closer to Completion for Neutrino Observatory in China

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) in China is getting closer to a major milestone with the nearing completion of the world’s largest acrylic sphere. This massive structure will play a crucial role in capturing and analyzing neutrinos, subatomic particles that hold mysteries about the universe.

The sphere has been constructed from 263 large spherical panels

The acrylic sphere boasts an impressive diameter of 35.4 meters, dwarfing the previous record holder of 12 meters. Donchamp (Jiangsu) Material Technology Co Ltd., based in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, is responsible for developing and manufacturing this giant sphere.

China Sphere

The sphere is a marvel of engineering, meticulously constructed from 263 large spherical panels, each 12 centimeters thick. A team of 50 workers from Donchamp is currently finalizing the installation process, aiming for completion by the end of July.

The JUNO observatory itself resides 700 meters underground in Jiangmen, Guangdong province. This deep location shields the experiment from background radiation, allowing for more precise detection of neutrinos.

Once operational, JUNO will utilize the acrylic sphere to contain 20,000 metric tons of liquid scintillator. This special liquid will emit light when struck by neutrinos, allowing the observatory’s 45,000 photomultiplier tubes to detect and record these elusive particles.

By studying neutrinos, scientists hope to gain a deeper understanding of the universe’s evolution, the nature of dark matter, and the processes that power exploding stars, supernovas. With the completion of the giant acrylic sphere, JUNO is poised to become a leading facility in the field of neutrino research.

Galaxy M55 vs Galaxy A35: Design and colours

Galaxy M55:

The Galaxy M55 is a good-looking device and a great choice for those that aren’t fans of the new flat edges that Samsung is using on the A-seires. This device features a flat screen, triple rear cameras, a centre-mounted selfie camera cutout at the top of the screen. Its power and volume rocker keys sit on the right-hand side of the frame, while the SIM tray sits to the left of the frame. Under the device is the USB-C port, speaker cutout, and microphone, but at the top sits an upwards firing speaker. Available colours on this device are Dark Blue and Light Green.

Galaxy A35:

The more popular Galaxy A35 comes with a similar design to the Galaxy M55, but with a more fashionable touch to the side frames. On this device, the side frames are flat, and they feature a bump around the area of the power button and volume rocker keys. It also comes with a triple rear camera setup and a centre-mounted selfie camera, just like the Galaxy M55 entry. On the base of this device sits the USB-C port, speakers, and a microphone, on the top sits the SIM tray and an upward firing speaker. Available colours on this device are Iceblue, Lilac, Navy, and Lemon, giving more choice than the Galaxy M55 entry.

Major differences:

  • Flat sides on the Galaxy A35.

Galaxy Ring charging case features a different design compared to Samsung’s earphone cases

Samsung could release the Galaxy Ring in the US in August and the company has already revealed some of the health tracking capabilities of the smart ring. Now an image of the charging case of the Galaxy Ring has surfaced on the web.

Galaxy Ring charging case

The Galaxy Ring charging case looks like a jewelry box

The leak comes from renowned tipster Ice Universe. Although he didn’t share much except the image, you can see that the case for the company’s smart ring adopts a fancier design and looks somewhat like a jewelry box.

Reportedly, the charging mechanism for the ring will be similar to the company’s available wireless earphones. However, it’s also possible that the new smart ring will charge wirelessly in the case. The case is also likely to support wireless charging.

According to a previous report, the Galaxy Ring has achieved 9 days of battery life in Samsung’s tests. Notably, different sizes of the ring will come with different battery capacities, and it’s not clear which size in the company’s tests ran 9 days on a single charge. According to the FCC listing of the smart ring, the battery capacity ranges from 17mAh to 22.5mAh.

Speaking of the pricing of Samsung’s first-ever wearable smart ring, it could be in the range of $300 to $350. Samsung will likely launch this new product in the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event along with the redesigned Galaxy Buds 3 series, Galaxy Watch 7 series, and the sixth generation foldable.

The Galaxy Ring “monitors heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen, movement, and sleep to provide users valuable insights and offer guidance to improve their health and wellbeing,” noted a document from Samsung. The total health tracking system will also reportedly offer an “Energy Score” based on the recorded data. There could also be additional capabilities of the smart ring that the company has reserved to reveal on its Unpacked event.

Tipster reveals launch price and software details of Nokia Lumia 920 lookalike

New information from reliable leaker @smashx_60 has revealed pricing details and software support plans for HMD‘s upcoming HMD Skyline smartphone. While the previous leak focused on hardware specifications, this latest update shares details about the phone’s post-launch experience.

Earlier, it was rumored that the HMD Skyline would feature a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, a 120Hz OLED display, and a Samsung ISOCELL HM2 primary camera sensor, along with a design reminiscent of the Nokia Lumia 920. These details remain unchanged.

HMD Skyline Price and Software Details

The new leak delves into the software support for the phone. HMD Global is reportedly planning three years of Android updates for the HMD Skyline. This means the Skyline will reach the end of its Android support cycle with Android 17, assuming it launches with Android 14 as expected.

Security patches will also be provided for three years, with no additional year of support beyond the major platform updates, unlike some other manufacturers.

However, there is reportedly a business-oriented “HMD Skyline Business Edition (BE)” which, according to the tipster, will receive five years of security patches. However, this extended support will come at a higher price since Business Edition devices are often more expensive than the standard models.

The tipster has also shared the pricing details for both editions. The HMD Skyline BE is expected to launch at €520 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It will be available only in black, says the tipster.

On the other hand, the standard version will come in four color options and with choices of either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The storage option will remain the same at 256GB. The 8GB variant is expected to be priced at €459, while the 12GB option will be priced at €499. The launch timeframe of HMD Skyline is said to be mid-July.

Google Pixel 9 surfaces on benchmark with Tensor G3, launch imminent

As the Google Pixel 9 series launch time is inching closer, leaks continue to reveal details about the upcoming phone’s specifications. The latest leak focuses on the vanilla Pixel 9’s performance through a benchmark listing.

The device appeared on Geekbench 6 with the official name. As expected, it is powered by the new Tensor G4 chip.

In the benchmark, it achieved a single-core score of 1653 and a multi-core score of 3313. These numbers are lower compared to competitors like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and even show a slight decline from the Pixel 8’s performance with the Tensor G3.

However, it’s important to remember that benchmark scores can vary due to different testing conditions or lack of proper optimization, so these numbers might not fully represent the Pixel 9’s final performance.

On a more positive note, the leak confirms previous information about the Tensor G4’s core configuration. The Pixel 9 features a prime core clocked at 3.1 GHz, three cores at 2.6 GHz, and four cores at 1.95 GHz. The listing also confirms 8GB of RAM, consistent with rumors, and the familiar Mali-G715 GPU used in the Pixel 8.

The Pixel 9, along with the 9 Pro, was also tested on AnTuTu last month. The Pixel 9 scored 1,016,167 points, while the Pixel 9 Pro scored 1,148,452 points. Additionally, the new model of the series, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, scored 1,176,410 points with the same Tensor G3 chip.

Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro

Leaked images of all three devices reveal a similar camera cutout. The Pixel 9 has a dual-camera setup, while the 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL feature a triple-camera arrangement.

We still don’t know much about the Pixel 9 series, but we’ll keep you updated as more details emerge.
