OnePlus Nord CE 4 gets new update to fix heating issue

OnePlus has issued a new update for its Nord CE 4 smartphone, aimed at addressing the heating issues some users have reported. The update, version IN: CPH2613_14.0.1.429(EX01), also improves camera stability and enhances the overall performance of the system.

Currently, the update is being rolled out to a small number of users, with a wider release expected soon. Users in India who get the update can report any bugs by dialing *#800# and selecting ‘Submit Bugs.’

While OnePlus has not yet mentioned plans to release this update in other regions, it’s likely that it will be available globally in the near future. This update follows the recent OxygenOS 14.0.1.427 update, which added an AI eraser tool.

OnePlus Nord CE 4 specs:

The Nord CE 4 5G features a 6.7-inch AMOLED FHD+ screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz and is rated IP54 for dust and water resistance. It is powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor and offers up to 256 GB of storage. The device is equipped with a 5,500mAh battery that supports 100W fast charging. Running Android 14 and OxygenOS 14, it is set to receive at least two major software updates and three years of security updates.

iPhone 15 series is now available at record-low prices in China

Apple is resorting to significant price cuts on its iPhone 15 lineup in mainland China to revive sluggish sales. Major online retailers like JD.com and Alibaba’s Tmall platform are offering the phones at new lows.

For instance, the top-tier 256GB iPhone 15 Pro Max is now priced at 7,949 yuan ($1,100) on these platforms. That’s a big 2,050 yuan (20%) reduction from its initial September 2023 launch price of 9,999 yuan.

The base 128GB iPhone 15 also sees a 23% price drop, going from 5,999 yuan ($829) to 4,599 yuan ($635).

Note that Apple’s official mainland online store is listing the iPhone 15s at their original launch price. The discount is only available on major e-commerce platforms.

Apple is believed to be offering such aggressive discounts to reignite Chinese audience interest in their flagship product. For those unaware, iPhone sales in Greater China (including mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan) dipped by 8% to US$16.4 billion in the March quarter.

Apple’s unusual discount strategy in Chinese online marketplaces began in January. It came after several Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi and Honor slashed prices of their phones on both online and offline markets.

So in the same month, Apple itself offered discounts of up to 800 yuan on its mainland online store for iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, AirPods, and Apple Watches.

According to market research firm Counterpoint, Apple’s market share in mainland China’s smartphone market shrunk to 15.7% in the March quarter, down from 20.2% a year earlier.

The decline placed them behind Vivo (17.4% share) and Honor (16.1% share). Huawei, with its successful 5G handset comeback featuring the Mate 60 Pro, secured a 15.5% market share during the same period.

Despite the concerns, the discounts on iPhones may be yielding some positive results for Apple. Data published by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology earlier this month suggests that shipments of foreign-branded smartphones in China grew 12% compared to March 2023. While the academy didn’t specify the brand, Apple typically dominates foreign handset sales in mainland China.

Is POCO F6 Pro better than Samsung’s Galaxy S24+? Official Teaser claims it is

The POCO F6 Pro will be officially unveiled in the global market later this week. But ahead of any official announcement, the brand’s latest teaser has taken on South Korean tech giant Samsung and its flagship phone. The Chinese brand recently shared a teaser where it compared its upcoming F6 Pro against the Galaxy S24+. So let’s see which one appears better on paper.

POCO F6 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S24+

To recall, the POCO F6 series will be announced on 23rd May 2024. These smartphones would also arrive with the brand’s first-ever tablet, the POCO Pad. To hype up the upcoming launch, POCO shared a new teaser that had the device pitted against the Galaxy S24+. The company claims that there is no competition in the price range the F6 Pro will launch in. The two devices were compared in various aspects.

POCO F6 Pro

Samsung’s Galaxy S24+ launched with the Exynos 2400, while the POCO F6 Pro arrives with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. It supports 120W wired fast charging, which is quite a bit faster than the 45W wired fast charging on the Galaxy S24+. The latter sports a QHD+ 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 2600 nits of peak brightness and the former sports a WQHD+ 120Hz Flow AMOLED screen with 4000 nits of peak brightness. A large 5,000mAh battery pack powers the F6 Pro and the S24+ is powered by a 4,900mAh cell.

The F6 Pro has a premium metal frame and the S24+ has an Armor aluminum frame. Both devices offer a 50-megapixel triple camera setup with OIS. Apart from these specs, the pricing is likely another area where the F6 Pro may outclass Samsung’s current-gen flagship device. The Galaxy S24+ starts from 999 US Dollars and goes up to 1,199 US Dollars. Meanwhile, all three storage variants of the POCO F6 Pro with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage still won’t cross the 1000 US Dollar mark. So stick around for more as we will be covering the launch event soon.

The phone uses a “Free-type” tri-foldable display that unfolds to reveal a 7.85-inch screen, offering a tablet-like experience when fully open. The panel has a typical tablet aspect ratio when flattened and supports a unique folding mechanism that allows for both “G” and “Z” shaped configurations.

TCL tri-foldable phone

Previous iterations of tri-foldable phones have struggled with excessive thickness. TCL appears to have addressed this concern, with their model measuring a mere 427 microns thick.

The phone also has what TCL calls a Sensor Under Panel (SUP) design that enables 3D facial recognition through sensors fitted beneath the display. mobile payments and device unlocking.

Notably, both the regular display area and the SUP region maintain a consistent pixel density of 420PPI for a uniform visual experience.

The panel also has modern tech like LTPO technology that allows the device to adjust the refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz and low power consumption. Durability is another focus, with TCL claiming the display is built to last.

TCL’s plans for commercialization of this tri-foldable phone remain unclear. It’s worth noting that giants like Huawei are rumored to be working on similar devices. Rumors are that Huawei may launch a tri-fold phone with a 10-inch display later this year.

iPhone 16 Pro Max: Apple’s next-gen flagship may offer impressive battery life

Apple iPhone 16 lineup is set to launch later this year. While the announcement is still months away, a fresh report has revealed more details regarding the next-gen flagship, the iPhone 16 Pro Max. So here are all the details.

Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max: Battery life bump?

The news arrives from known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Apparently, the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max may offer a longer battery life compared to its predecessor. But the brand isn’t simply expanding the capacity of the battery. Rather, it is rumored to employ a cell with higher energy density to bring a longer endurance while maintaining the battery size. On the other hand, Apple may also choose to use this technology to maintain a similar battery life but make the cell smaller. But since the design isn’t slated for a major overhaul, we could expect the battery life to see a noticeable bump thanks to the newer battery tech as well as the new A18 Pro processor.

iPhone 16 Pro Max

This, in turn, could make the iPhone 16 Pro Max lighter and possibly slimmer as well. Kuo added that the supply chain survey has hinted at a boost in energy density (Wh.kg) for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Although, this density could also lead to increasing thermal but Apple could deal with overheating via a stainless steel battery case. This would mark the first time that the company uses this material on its battery case.

It is still unclear what technology Apple intends to use on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Furthermore, the shift to stainless steel is in line with the EU’s future requirements for battery replaceability. However, it may now dissipate heat as effectively as aluminum. So stick around for more as we will be providing more updates when additional information is available regarding the 2024 iPhones.

These are the possible color options of iPhone 16 series

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has offered some predictions on the color options for the upcoming iPhone 16 series, and with his proven track record, his words carry significant weight. As Apple typically unveils its new iPhones in September, these color choices could be what greets us this fall.

Kuo, via a social media post, suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come in Black, White (or Silver), Gray (or Natural Titanium), and Rose. The Rose color will replace the current Blue Titanium option of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

For the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, Kuo mentions Black, Green, Pink, Blue, and White. Here, the key change is White which will replace the Yellow from the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus’s color palette.

Kuo also mentions that Apple might tweak the names of existing colors slightly, and even if a name sounds familiar, the shade might be different. For instance, the new White might have subtle variations compared to previous versions.

An X user @ArnaudDucouret has created an image showing what the iPhone 16 Pro series could look like based on Kuo’s predictions. If accurate, this would be the first time the Pro line will have a Rose color.

While these are just predictions, Kuo’s history suggests a high chance of them being accurate. September is still a few months away, but details about the iPhone 16 series are gradually trickling out. We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop on any new developments regarding these devices.
