If you are able to watch videos from a Telegram channel or group but can’t download them to your device, it’s because the channel or group owner has restricted its viewers from saving the video.
Telegram provides channel and group owners many options to manage their channels and groups. One of them is the “Restrict saving content” feature, which doesn’t let subscribers and viewers save photos and videos.
This restriction doesn’t let users forward content from those channels or groups.
However, I have found ways to bypass this restriction, which you can use to download any private/restricted videos from Telegram.
Download Restricted Videos From Telegram on Android, iPhone, and PC
There are many ways to download a restricted video from Telegram. It’s possible using a Telegram bot and a file manager (on Android). However, if you have a PC, you can download those private videos in a single click using a Chrome extension (check method #3).
Method 1: Download Restricted Telegram Videos Using a Bot
Using a Telegram bot, you can easily download restricted videos from Telegram channels and groups. The bot I’m talking about is Save Restricted Content.
This method works on any device, including iPhone, Android, PC, and other operating systems that support Telegram.
[Note: This solution works for public channels and groups. If it’s a private group/channel, you’ll need to give this bot the channel/group invitation link. Otherwise, you can skip to the next solution.]Here are the steps to follow:
Step 1: Add the Save Restricted Content bot to your Telegram account.
Step 2: You must join the Save Restricted Content channel to use the bot.
Step 3: If it’s a private channel/group, send the invite link. (Skip this step for public channels/groups.)
Step 4: Go to the channel/group, click three dots, and tap Copy Link. On PC, right-click on the video and select Copy Post Link.
Step 5: Send the copied video link to the Save Restricted Content bot.
Step 6: The bot will send you the video within minutes. You can now download and save the video.
This Save Restricted Content bot does the work, but sometimes, it takes a little while to respond. And you only get to download a few videos daily, which is another limitation.
If you own an Android device, there’s an easier way to save restricted/private videos from Telegram, as detailed below.
Method 2: Download Restricted Telegram Videos Using a File Manager
This Telegram restriction doesn’t let subscribers save videos to the gallery, but in reality, those videos are already stored on your device but hidden deep inside folders.
Using a file manager, we can easily file those videos and move them to a different folder to be able to see them in the gallery.
Here’s how this method works:
Step 1: Download Mi File Manager from the Google Play Store.
Step 2: Launch the app and grant the required permissions.
Step 3: Go to the Files tab and then tap on the Android folder.
Step 4: Get into the Data folder and tap on View in files.
Step 5: Tap on the Android folder and then data.
Step 6: Select org.telegram.messenger folder and select Files.
Step 7: Go to Telegram and tap on Telegram Videos.
You have discovered all Telegram videos that have not been saved to the gallery, including those private videos.
Select the videos and move them to a different folder to view them in the gallery.
Method 3: Download Restricted Telegram Videos Using a Chrome Extension
Out of all the methods I’ve discovered in this guide, this is the easiest and quickest way to download videos from private Telegram channels or groups.
In this method, we’ll use a Chrome extension (Telegram Private Video Downloader) on a PC to download the videos.
Step 1: Launch Google Chrome on your PC.
Step 2: Open the Telegram Private Video Downloader extension page on the Chrome Web Store.
Step 4: Click Add to Chrome.
Step 5: Click Add extension to install the extension.
Step 6: Log into your Telegram account via Telegram Web.
Step 7: Enter the chat where the video is published.
Step 5: Click the DOWNLOAD VIDEO button below the video you want to download. It can take a few seconds for the download button to appear.
