Honor Magic8 Pro Review: A Leap Forward For The Series

Honor Magic8 Pro

The wait is finally over for global flagship enthusiasts eager for the Honor Magic8 Pro. While the device shares core configurations with its China-only counterpart, targeted adjustments have been made to align with regional regulatory requirements and user demands. For reference, the Chinese version has a high-capacity 7,200 mAh battery and 120 W wired fast charging, whereas the global version has more modest specifications — a trend previously seen in models such as the Vivo X300 Pro. Despite the reduced battery capacity, however, the Honor Magic8 Pro (Global) outperforms the Vivo flagship in terms of real-world battery endurance.

As our OnePlus 15 China vs. Global comparison analysis highlighted, many brands choose to reduce the battery capacity of devices intended for non-Chinese markets, particularly EU-compliant variants, in order to comply with strict regional regulations. This raises two key questions: what modifications have specifically been implemented on the global Honor Magic8 Pro, and what exclusive features does it offer international users? This review summarises weeks of real-world testing to answer these questions.

Band Support & eSIM

Above all, support for 5G bands is the key factor in determining the viability of Chinese flagship smartphones in overseas markets. Fortunately, the Honor Magic8 Pro (Global) supports almost all of the major European 5G bands (Congratulations to European users!). My colleague Paco conducted a field test in the UK and verified stable connectivity and consistent data speeds, even in high-traffic urban areas and remote mountainous areas.

Compatibility testing also confirms support for most North American 5G bands, with only a small number of US carriers excluded from the list. For the majority of users in Europe and North America, this translates to seamless, reliable 5G performance.

The most notable upgrade for global travellers and digital nomads is eSIM support, a feature that was unavailable on the China-only model. The device offers a variety of connectivity options, including dual nano-SIMs, dual eSIMs, or a combination of one nano-SIM and one eSIM. This flexibility allows users to switch between local carriers while travelling internationally without having to swap physical SIM cards, making the Honor Magic8 Pro (Global) one of the most travel-friendly Android flagship phones currently available.

Battery

Next, this review examined the battery life and charging speed of the Magic8 Pro, which has been the subject of much discussion around the world. The China model sets a high benchmark with its 7,200 mAh battery and 120 W wired charging; the global variant, however, has a 7,100 mAh battery and 100 W wired charging. While this appears to be a significant compromise on paper, real-world testing yields a contrasting conclusion.

A standardized battery stress test was conducted, encompassing the following scenarios:

  • 1 hour of 1080p YouTube video streaming
  • 1 hour of social media browsing and interaction
  • 30 minutes of 4K video recording
  • 1 hour of 5G web browsing
  • 30 minutes of graphics-intensive gaming

Test results demonstrate impressive power efficiency across all scenarios. Heavy users can retain 15–20% battery power by bedtime after a full day of intensive use, while light users can extend a single charge to two complete days. The 100W wired charging still delivers rapid replenishment, charging the battery from 0% to 50% in just 12 minutes and achieving a full charge in less than 30 minutes—sufficient for quick top-ups between daily activities.

Camera System

The global Magic8 Pro has the same camera hardware as its Chinese counterpart, which is a key advantage for photography enthusiasts. However, a critical question remains: does the camera system live up to flagship standards, or is it the ‘least competent’ among top-tier Android devices, as some critics have claimed? This section analyses sample images and real-world performance to provide a definitive answer.

In bright daylight (as the afternoon sun neared sunset), the main sensor provides an exceptional dynamic range, preserving sharp details in overexposed skies and shadowed foregrounds without the need for artificial colour enhancement. Colour reproduction is neutral and true to life, with no oversaturation, making it ideal for landscape, cityscape and travel photography.

The 200MP Super Night Telephoto lens is the undisputed standout component of the camera system. It captures clear, sharp candid shots even in low-light environments, and with CIPA 5.5-level optical image stabilization, it maintains crisp details at 10–30x zoom ratios.

Distant subjects—ranging from pedestrians in crowded squares to intricate building facades—are rendered with minimal noise in low-light telephoto mode. This feature establishes the Magic8 Pro’s competitive edge over many of its counterparts in the telephoto imaging category.

Although the ultra-wide-angle lens is the sole underperforming component, this is not an indication of poor quality. With a focal length of 12 mm, it captures expansive scenes with solid edge sharpness and minimal barrel distortion. However, it lacks the visual impact of the main and telephoto lenses. Nevertheless, it remains a viable option for architectural photography and group portraits.

Camera features are characterized by practicality, with no flashy gimmicks cluttering the interface. Film filters, AI subject tracking, and one-tap AI enhancement simplify the shooting process for novice users, while the dedicated AI button—a feature not available on iPhone devices—enables quick access to camera launch or zoom adjustments, facilitating the capture of spontaneous moments without navigating complex menus.

Compared to flagships from Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo, the Magic8 Pro’s imaging system lacks a distinctive, stylized color profile. For users who prioritize true-to-reality image output over processed, social media-optimized shots, however, this is a significant advantage.

Video Performance

Video performance represents the only shortcoming of the Magic8 Pro’s imaging suite, falling short of its photographic capabilities. Low-light footage exhibits noticeable noise and inconsistent white balance, with color tones fluctuating between warm and cool in mixed-light environments such as restaurants or night markets—a distraction for professional video creators.

On the positive side, the device supports 4K 60fps HDR Vivid recording across all lenses, as well as 4K 120fps slow-motion recording on the main and telephoto lenses. For daytime vlogging or casual video shooting, it meets basic requirements, but it is not a preferred choice for professional video production.

Display

To enhance ergonomics, Honor has slightly reduced the display size of the global variant, but it retains the same curved LTPO OLED panel as the Chinese model, ensuring no compromises in design or visual quality.

The 1.5K resolution strikes an optimal balance between sharpness and power efficiency. In real-world usage, display clarity is nearly indistinguishable from 2K screens, with crisp text rendering and detailed image presentation, and no visible pixelation even at close viewing distances. LTPO technology adjusts the refresh rate dynamically between 1–120Hz based on content type, conserving battery life without sacrificing visual smoothness.

The display’s most prominent selling point is its industry-leading eye-care technology. A combination of 4,320Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and DC-like dimming significantly reduces eye strain caused by screen flicker—a common issue with low-frequency PWM displays. Low-light testing confirms that flicker is nearly imperceptible, making the device far more comfortable to use at night than many competing flagships. Honor has also integrated dedicated features for users with dry eye syndrome, a thoughtful design element that differentiates the device from its peers.

Performance & Software

Under the hood, the Honor Magic8 Pro (Global) is powered by the latest flagship SoC, which is specifically optimized for regional 5G band support. The processing architecture is identical to the Chinese model, and it retains the same advanced cooling system—an essential feature for maintaining performance in extreme climates, ranging from the scorching temperatures of Middle Eastern deserts to the frigid conditions of Northern European winters.

Benchmark tests and gaming trials validate its flagship-level performance credentials. Graphically intensive games such as Genshin Impact run smoothly at a stable 60fps with medium-to-high settings, and even during 2-hour marathon gaming sessions, the device remains cool to the touch, with minimal thermal throttling.

For global consumers, the software represents a major highlight. The core experience of MagicOS 10 is 100% consistent with the Chinese version, with three standout features:

  • Intuitive multitasking: Floating windows, split-screen mode, and app cloning function seamlessly, allowing users to run two apps simultaneously or clone social media accounts for work and personal use—a critical advantage for international professionals.
  • Powerful AI tools: Beyond basic translation and document scanning, the device offers smart text extraction, enabling users to extract phone numbers, addresses, or URLs from images with a single tap.
  • Bloat-free interface: Unlike other Android custom skins, MagicOS 10 excludes region-locked pre-installed applications. Most importantly, it provides full access to the Google Play Store—a key feature absent from the China-only model.

Final Verdict

The Honor Magic8 Pro (Global) is a well-rounded flagship that addresses the core needs of international users. It retains the top-tier camera system, eye-friendly display, and flagship-level performance of the Chinese model, while delivering the same polished MagicOS 10 experience. The adjustments to battery and charging specifications have minimal impact on daily usage, and 80W wireless charging is consistently available across all regions.

Its greatest strengths for global users are broad 5G band support and eSIM compatibility—two features that resolve the primary pain points associated with using Chinese flagships overseas. For travelers, digital nomads, and anyone seeking a reliable, high-performance Android flagship, the device represents a compelling option.

In summary, the Honor Magic8 Pro (Global) is a worthy investment for consumers seeking a powerful, travel-friendly flagship smartphone that strikes the right balance between performance, cameras, display quality, and battery life without unnecessary compromises.

Realme devices eligible for four major Android OS updates: Here’s the complete list

Realme four major Android OS updates list

Realme started offering four major Android updates to its devices last year, beginning with the Realme GT 7. Some more devices later arrived with this updated software policy, but the overall list is still too short, as Realme hasn’t expanded the new policy beyond the premium segment.

We’ve curated a list of Realme devices that promise four years of Android OS updates. Take a look at it below:

  • Realme GT 8 Pro (last update: Android 20)
  • Realme GT 8 (last update: Android 20)
  • Realme GT 7 (last update: Android 19)
  • Realme GT 7T (last update: Android 19)

If your Realme device is on the list, you’re in luck. But millions of Realme users are getting up to three Android OS updates, while brands like Samsung offer up to six on many of their budget phones, and their high-end phones get seven OS updates.

The four Android OS update policy is very welcoming from Realme, but it really shouldn’t be limited to premium phones. Even premium mid-range phones, such as the Realme 16 Pro+, which costs up to INR 45,000, only guarantee up to three Android OS updates.

Realme really needs to up its software update policy, as its competitors are doing it aggressively. Take Motorola, for example: the brand isn’t well-reputed for software updates, but it has been greatly improving rollout speed for the last few months. Not just that, the brand now promises up to five major OS updates for many of its mid-range phones, and recently matched Google and Samsung by promising seven years of Android OS support for the Motorola Signature smartphone.

Its Chinese rivals, including Oppo and Xiaomi, are also ahead with up to five major Android OS updates. Additionally, they promise longer updates to newer mid-range phones. So, I guess Realme wouldn’t want its customers to switch to other brands just for this reason, and therefore, we’ll likely see an improved software update policy anytime soon, at least for mid-range phones.

Oppo Find X9 Ultra leaked images reveal 4.28x teleconverter with 300mm reach

The Oppo Find X9 Ultra is expected to launch soon in China, and fresh leaked images are beginning to offer a clearer idea of what the device may bring. These images primarily highlight an upgraded teleconverter accessory, suggesting a noticeable improvement over the one available for the Find X9 Pro.

Find X9 Ultra: Bigger teleconverter and long-range photography focus

The leaked images indicate that the Oppo Find X9 Ultra will support a redesigned external teleconverter accessory and show the device being tested outdoors with the attachment fitted, suggesting Oppo is refining real-world performance. Unlike the Find X9 Pro’s optional 3.28x teleconverter, the larger new unit for the X9 Ultra is said to deliver 4.28x optical magnification, translating to an effective 300mm focal length.

The accessory itself looks larger and more complex than before, reportedly featuring additional optical elements. This setup is expected to work in tandem with a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera, allowing users to capture detailed shots with true optical depth rather than relying heavily on digital cropping.

Oppo Find X9 Ultra specifications (rumored)

Leaks suggest that the Find X9 Ultra will retain a dual periscope telephoto configuration. Apart from the 200-megapixel OmniVision OV52A periscope telephoto camera, which will offer 3x optical zoom, the second periscope camera is tipped to be a 50-megapixel unit supporting 10x optical zoom.

The rest of the camera setup is expected to include a 200-megapixel Sony LYT-901 main camera, a 50-megapixel Samsung JN5 ultra-wide lens, and a dedicated multispectral sensor for improved color accuracy. Both the main and telephoto cameras are said to support optical image stabilization. For selfies, it may feature a 50-megapixel front camera with autofocus support.

Beyond cameras, the Find X9 Ultra is rumored to feature a 6.82-inch 2K AMOLED flat display, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, ColorOS 16, full-level dust and water resistance, and a battery exceeding 7,000mAh with fast wired and wireless charging. The phone is expected to debut in China around March. It is also likely to launch in other markets.

iQOO 15 Ultra schematic emerge to reveal design, company exec. reveals unprecedented gaming performance

iQOO has started teasing its first Ultra-branded smartphone, with early details pointing towards a clear emphasis on performance. In a recent development, tipster Digital Chat Station shared an internal schematic of the iQOO 15 Ultra, while iQOO Product Director Galant V highlighted its gaming capabilities in a Weibo post. Together, these updates suggest the device is being designed with sustained gaming performance in mind, rather than positioning it as a conventional flagship.

iQOO 15 Ultra schematic

iQOO 15 Ultra schemeatic
iQOO 15 Ultra schematic

According to Digital Chat Station, the shared schematic highlights a hidden active cooling setup inside the iQOO 15 Ultra. The air intake is discreetly placed beneath the rear camera module, while the exhaust vent sits along the side frame. This layout allows the phone to accommodate a large 17 x 17 x 4mm cooling fan, said to be the biggest used in the segment so far, positioned directly next to the main chipset.

The design reportedly creates a wide airflow channel inside the chassis, improving heat dissipation efficiency without altering the external appearance. Despite the inclusion of a fan and independent air duct, the overall industrial design and protection levels are said to remain unaffected. Alongside this, the phone is tipped to feature an extra-large vapour chamber heat spreader, with a surface area said to reach up to 8,000 square millimetres, further strengthening thermal control during long gaming sessions.

The tipster has also revealed that the iQOO 15 Ultra will arrive in 16GB+512GB and 24GB+1TB variants. This Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-powered device was recently spotted with a record-breaking AnTuTu score of 4.51 million.

Gaming stability backed by software and hardware

iQOO 15 Ultra gaming perofrmance
iQOO 15 Ultra gaming performance

On the performance side, Galant V has highlighted iQOO’s focus on real-world gaming stability rather than peak frame rates alone. The iQOO 15 Ultra is claimed to handle one of the most demanding mobile games at the highest visual preset, 60 frames per second, while keeping both average frame rate and 1 percent low frame rate fully stable. Power consumption in this scenario is said to hover just above 7W, indicating tight control over efficiency.

This stability is credited to a combination of iQOO’s in-house Monster Super Core Engine, which works at a deep system level, and the brand’s first active cooling solution branded as the Ice Dome Air Cooling System. With this approach, iQOO positions the 15 Ultra as a performance exploration device aimed squarely at high-end mobile gamers who value consistency under extreme loads.

Motorola pushes Android 16 update to Moto G75

Motorola Moto G75 Android 16 update

Motorola has been gradually expanding the Android 16 update to its mid-range and lower-end devices, with the Moto G75 getting the latest bite. The update brings some new features and numerous improvements that further enhance the software experience.

The Android 16 update for the Moto G75 has started rolling out a month after the device entered beta testing. This is not unusual, though, as brands take a couple of weeks to refine the update and ensure the build has no critical bugs. The latest update bears the firmware version W1UQ36H.73-6, as shared by users on Reddit (via Ytechb).

Moto G75 Android 16 update

Since it’s a major upgrade, users will need to download a large update package of about 1.8 GB. It’s best to download such hefty packages over a Wi-Fi connection. To download the update, go to Settings > System updates > Check for updates.

Note that the updates are usually rolled out in batches. So, it may take a few days or even weeks to reach all the users. Once the update reaches your device, ensure your Moto has sufficient storage and charge it to at least 50% before installing the update.

In terms of changes, you wouldn’t notice significant visual upgrades, but there are several useful upgrades to look forward to. This includes a new Notification cooldown feature that reduces the volume of incoming notifications when receiving too many notifications from the same app within a short time span.

With Android 16, you can connect to another device’s hotspot without a password, provided both devices are logged into the same Google account. Not a big change, but a quality-of-life improvement. The Do Not Disturb, Bedtime, and Driving modes are now in Settings > Modes. Additionally, you can create custom modes as needed. Improvements have also been made to hearing aids, device security, and overall stability.

Sony hands over Bravia TV business to TCL in surprise joint venture

In a move that signals a major reshaping of the TV industry, Sony has agreed to spin off its home entertainment division, including its iconic Bravia TV brand, into a new joint venture with Chinese electronics giant TCL. Under the terms of the deal, TCL will hold a controlling 51% stake while Sony retains 49%.

Sony Bravia TV

You’ll Still See the Sony Logo

The upcoming venture, expected to begin operations in April 2027, will handle everything from R&D and design to global manufacturing, logistics, and customer service. Despite the ownership shift, products will continue to carry the Sony and Bravia branding, preserving decades of consumer trust and premium image quality.

What is really happening here is Sony stepping back. The Japanese giant, once a dominant force in consumer hardware, has steadily been offloading lower-margin businesses, first PCs, then media players, and now TVs, as it doubles down on entertainment IP like film, gaming, and anime. TCL, meanwhile, is ascending. It gets access to Sony’s image processing know-how, brand prestige, and global channel network, helping fast-track its climb into the premium segment.

This deal could change what it means to buy a Sony TV. TCL will be in the driver’s seat on pricing, display technology, and manufacturing, potentially opening the door to more affordable Bravia models without the traditional Sony markup. It is a best-of-both-worlds play on paper: Sony’s picture quality, TCL’s scale and efficiency.

Still, it marks the end of an era. Bravia was one of the last standing pillars of Japanese TV dominance. Now, with Sony’s exit from day-to-day control, even that legacy will be filtered through a Chinese lens, and only time will tell how this shift affects the future of both brands.

In related news, TCL has recently launched the X11L SQD-Mini LED TV series, featuring up to 20,000 local dimming zones and peak brightness of 10,000 nits.

ASUS ROG G1000 Is a Massive Flagship Gaming PC With Ryzen 9 9950X3D and RTX 5090

Ongoing RAM and SSD shortages have driven up PC building costs in 2026, with high memory, storage, and GPU prices eroding the value of custom builds. ASUS ROG G1000

The ROG G1000 is built around the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor, featuring 16 cores, 32 threads, a base clock of 4.3GHz, boost speeds up to 5.7GHz, and 128MB of cache. This makes it suitable for demanding AAA games as well as heavy multitasking and productivity workloads. AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT options are also available for users who prefer AMD’s software stack.

Power is supplied by a 1000W 80 Plus Gold power supply rated for up to 2000W peak output.

ASUS ROG G1000

Cooling is handled by a custom chassis that separates airflow for the CPU, GPU, and power supply. A 420mm liquid cooler sits in a dedicated thermal chamber with three 140mm intake fans, allowing cooler intake air and more stable CPU performance under load.

Visually, the ROG G1000 stands out with the AniMe Holo system. A 380mm side fan with 680 LEDs and two 215mm front fans with 384 LEDs each can display custom images or animations. The system operates at 20.5 dBA and supports 16.77 million colors.

Is Nothing Collaborating with Jaguar?

Nothing is stirring up chatter on X (formerly Twitter) after sharing a fresh teaser post featuring a new logo, prompting speculation that it might be gearing up for a collaboration with British luxury carmaker Jaguar. The buzz stems from the visual similarities between Nothing’s teaser and a stylistic nod to Jaguar’s recent typography. So here’s what we know.

Is This a Nothing x Jaguar Partnership?

Nothing recently posted a cryptic message on social media featuring its existing logo alongside what might be a refreshed wordmark, accompanied by the caption “GETTING READY TO MAKE HISTORY.” This has sparked debate among fans and industry observers about whether the teaser hints at a brand partnership with Jaguar or something else entirely.

Nothing x Jaguar

The roots of the speculation go back to late 2024, when Jaguar revealed the divisive rebranding. This included a new typography and marketing slogans like “Copy Nothing”, which became a viral talking point online. Nothing poked fun at Jaguar at the time by adopting a similar font and even changing its own social profile to read “Copy Jaguar.” That playful jab has now resurfaced in the minds of fans, who are connecting the dots between Nothing’s current teaser and that earlier parody.

Nothing also engaged with users in replies to posts about the teaser, once remarking “you had to be there” in response to someone referencing the Jaguar joke. This comment further stirred rumors about a deeper link between the brands. However, this interaction could simply be an inside callback to the earlier meme rather than a confirmation of any formal tie-up. There’s a pattern of auto and tech brands collaborating on limited-edition devices, like Honor’s Porsche Design smartphones and Realme’s Aston Martin-branded models. So the idea of a Nothing Jaguar special edition phone isn’t outside the realm of possibility.
