Apple iPhone 13 to drop 64GB option, Pro variants to offer up to 1TB: Kuo

A new report has revealed that the Apple will be dropping the 64GB storage variant on its upcoming iPhone 13 series, while the higher end Pro variant of the lineup will offer up to 1TB storage options.

Apple iPhone 13

The news arrives from known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via 9to5Mac) who shared it in a new investor report. Kuo added that the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will start from the 128GB storage variant and will also be available in 256GB and 512GB options as well. In other words, the 64GB version will no longer be an option with the new iPhone 13 this year. The 64GB option was available in the iPhone 12 series that launched back last year.

Talking about the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, Kuo stated that these models will be available in a 128GB, 126GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage configurations. On the other hand, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max were available in just the 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options. However, while the higher storage versions offers good options to consumers, Kuo believes that the upcoming iPhone lineup will face challenges due to component shortages.

Apple iPhone 13 to bring Potrait Mode and ProRes for videos

He stated that “Due to the component shortage, the legacy models had been cut by about 5 to 10 percent in 3Q21. The iPhone 13 shipment in 4Q21 may have a potential downside risk due to component shortage. However, this downside has a limited impact on iPhone 13 shipments. We believe that iPhone 13 shipments in 2021 can grow by more than 10 percent YoY (vs. iPhone 12 shipments in 2020).”

Lifeme is a new lifestyle brand of Meizu Mblu (aka Blue Charm)

A few days back, Meizu announced the return of its ‘mblu’ brand, which is commonly known as ‘Blue Charm’. Yesterday, Mblu debuted its own sub-brand called ‘lifeme’. Let’s take a look at what’s this new brand is all about.

Meizu Mblu Lifeme

During the earlier days of Meizu, the Mblu brand was all about smartphones and related accessories. But this time, the company is taking a different approach.

As per the official announcement on Weibo, the resurrected Mblu brand will focus on creating high-quality lifestyle products for the youth. These products will be sold under a new brand called Lifeme.

Meizu’s sub-brand has even revealed the first batch of Lifeme products. They are as listed below.

  • Lifeme BTS30 Bluetooth Speaker
  • Lifeme BTS10 Bluetooth Speaker
  • Lifeme Hand Warmer + Power Bank
  • Lifeme Pearwood Umbrella
  • Lifeme Leather Power Bank
  • Lifeme Backpack

Meizu Mblu Lifeme Products

We think that Mblu will be introducing more products as Lifeme brand grows gradually. That’s because, in July, Meizu created Mblu Weibo accounts for tablets, smartwatches, TVs, and routers. The new Mblu might operate like realme TechLife, which also has a sub-brand called DIZO.

That said, although Mblu confirmed the products that it will be launching first, it is yet to reveal when they will be hitting the markets.

Not only JioPhone Next but many other smartphones face issue due to chip shortage: Counterpoint

Recently, Indian telecom giant Reliance Jio announced that its upcoming smartphone, named JioPhone Next, will be officially launched by the Diwali festival in the country, which means that it will be available by 4th November.

The entry-level smartphone made in collaboration with Google was earlier set to get launched in the Indian market last week but the phone’s release has been delayed and the company has claimed global chip shortage as the reason.

JioPhone Next

Now, a report from Counterpoint Research claims that the JioPhone Next isn’t the only device being affected by the severe shortage of components and shipping delays. It says that many top smartphone makers are delaying or limited the launch of their products to certain markets due to production issues.

The delays in smartphone launches are linked to shortages in components like power management integrated circuits. The rising cost for key components such as memory, processors, and logistics is also a key factor.

At the same time, companies are also increasing the pricing of smartphones. The prime example of this would be Xiaomi-backed Redmi which increased the price of the Redmi Note 10 series four times in the Indian market.

According to Counterpoint Research, the year is expected to end with about 190 launches, which is less than over 207 launches last year. So far, companies have conducted around 103 smartphone launches this year.

It remains to be seen how many devices get launched in the fourth quarter of this year which is the prime sale period for both online and offline sales because of the festive season and it accounts for around one-third of annual sales.

Google to reportedly release Android 12 stable version update on October 4

Google has been working on the latest Android 12 mobile operating system and last week, the tech giant released the fifth and the final beta build of the new OS which means that the stable version should be rolled out in a few weeks.

While the search engine giant hasn’t revealed the exact launch date for the stable version of the Android 12 operating system, a new report from XDA-Developers claims that the Android 12 could be officially released for the Pixel smartphones on 4th October.

Android 12 Logo Featured A

Google is expected to publish the source code for the Android 12 operating system on 4th October on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) Gerrit. If Google sticks with its tradition, then the latest Android version should be rolled out to its own Pixel series smartphones on the same day.

Do note that this is a tentative launch date for Android 12 and it could get changed as Google has not officially announced it. Going by history, Google is a bit late in releasing the stable build of the Android operating system. It’s likely that the development schedule was affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The delay could be because Google wants to ensure that everything works properly and is taking more time in testing. Unlike the previous updates, this one comes with significant updates and several new additions, including revamped user interface and more security-focused features keeping user privacy in check. A detailed look at key features in the newer mobile operating system is available here.

Android 12 featured

The Android 12 Beta is already available for Google’s own Pixel lineup and a number of other smartphones from brands like Xiaomi, Realme, OPPO, OnePlus, ASUS, and Samsung. You can check the full list of eligible devices from this article.

Google is also reportedly working on a new minor update for the Android operating system and interestingly, it appears that it will be a version update. This means that the next update from the company will be Android 12.1 and not Android 13 and is expected to be rolled out pretty soon after the launch of Pixel 6 series phones. It’s noteworthy that the last point update was Android 8.1 Oreo and since then, there haven’t been point updates from Google for the Android operating system.

Apart from OPPO smartphones, the OnePlus phones in China will run ColorOS while the global models will continue to run OxygenOS. The Bluetooth SIG certification usually precedes the launch of devices, although it is not definitive and one cannot predict the length of time until the launch of the device. However, most products do get a quick lunch after their Bluetooth certification. There are only a few details that could be pieced from the Bluetooth certifying authority. The model number of the Oppo F19s is CPH2223. It will have Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity.

The Oppo F19s has also been the subject of a few tipsters. A recent leak indicated that the F19s is primed for an imminent launch in India at Rs. 18,000 ($245). It was also stated that the F19s will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor. The F19s is rumored to run on Android 11 together with ColorOS11.1. As per the specs, the F19s will have a 6.43-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a decent refresh rate, as well as 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

The Oppo F19s is also rumored to have a triple camera setup on the rear, signposted by a 48MP main camera. It also comes with a 5,000mAh battery and 33W charging support. If the projections are right, we may see the unveiling of the Oppo F19s anytime soon.

Honor Play 20 Pro is coming, appears in early listing

Earlier this year, Honor launched the Honor Play 20, an entry-level smartphone with a Unisoc T610 processor. Now, it is ready to follow it up with a pro model. Listings of the Honor Play 20 Pro have been posted online and they reveal some key details of the upcoming phone.

The Honor Play 20 Pro has appeared on an unnamed website. The listing shows that the phone will have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, though we believe there will be other configurations when it launches. The phone will be available in three colors – Titanium Silver, Magic Night Black, and Icelandic Fantasyland.

The source (@Jiwai Digital VVV) that found the listings said the phone will be powered by a Unisoc processor but another Weibo user, ”@Wang Tsai Know-how”, says that is not the case. However, he says the Honor Play 20 Pro will be a 4G phone just like the Honor Play 20. He also said that the phone will be priced between ¥999 (~$155) – ¥1199 (~$186). This price is most likely for the base model considering the Honor Play 20 launched with a starting price tag of ¥899 (~$139) and goes up to ¥1399 (~$217).

The Honor Play 20 will have a 6.52-inch display with an HD+ resolution and a waterdrop notch. The Unisoc Tiger T610 under its hood is paired with up to 8GB of RAM. All RAM variants have the same 128GB of eMMC storage but you can add more space via the MicroSD card slot.

The Play 20 packs a 13MP + 2MP dual-camera setup on the back of the phone while a 5MP sensor is in front for selfies. Other features include a 5000mAh battery capacity with support for 10W charging. It runs Android 10 with Magic UI 4.0 on top.

HTC A100 tablet launched in Russia with a Unisoc chip, 4G, and dual rear cameras for under $300

Early last month, an HTC tablet was spotted on the Google Play Console. The device has now been officially unveiled in Russia as the HTC A100 and it packs mid-range specs at a price that falls under $300.

The HTC A100 has a 10.1-inch IPS LCD display with a 1920 x 1200 resolution. The screen is housed in an aluminum chassis with rounded corners. There are bezels around the display, and while they are not humongous, they are not the slimmest. However, they do have the same thickness on all sides.

For its first tablet in years, HTC has gone with the UNISOC Tiger T618, the same chipset we have seen in phones such as ZTE’s Axon 20 4G and Blade V30 smartphones and the Alldocube iPlay 40 tablet. The 12nm processor has an 8-core CPU made up of two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. It also has a Mali G52 MP2 GPU.

The processor is paired with 8GB DDR3 RAM and 128GB of storage. There is a MicroSD card slot that allows the user to add up to an extra 256GB of storage. The tablet also has support for dual SIMs via its hybrid SIM slot.

On the back of the HTC A100 are two cameras – a 13MP main camera and a 2MP secondary camera. It also has a 5MP front-facing camera for video calls. There are two speaker grilles at the bottom, and on the same side as the SIM tray and USB-C port lies an audio jack. The tablet packs a 7000mAh battery capacity, ships with a power brick in the box, and runs Android 11.

The HTC A100 is already available for purchase in Russia at a price of ₽19,990 which converts to about $273. At the moment, we do not know if the tablet will be announced in other regions.
