OnePlus survey hints at the brand working on its own Crypto Wallet

In recent times, the cryptocurrency market has become trending again with various companies offering wallets to help consumers in the sale and purchase of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Etherium, Doge, and many more. Now, surveys from OnePlus have hinted at the possibility that the brand might be launching its own Crypto Wallet as well.

OnePlus

According to a recent Survey (Via MySmartPrice), the Chinese tech giant might also be planning on jumping on the cryptocurrency bandwagon as well. For those unaware, the crypto craze surfaced around a year ago, with the cryptocurrency market seeing a major rise and decline within the same period of time. This has prompted many firms to capitalize on this hype, with the smartphone maker also possibly being one of them. Recently, the brand has been conducting a survey that seeks user feedback regarding blockchain technology.

This survey has participants fill in their ages along with basic demographic details. Furthermore, the survey proceeds to ask users if they have invested in cryptocurrencies and the platforms they prefer to check the fluctuating values of the currencies. In other words, it hints at the possibility that the firm might be seeking to launch its own Crypto Wallet. The survey itself is divided into five parts that require the users to fill in basic details and then asking them how often they check crypto prices or about their investments.

Additionally, users are also asked to select the list of wallets or platforms that they have used to trade in crypto or just check the value. It even asks whether they use this platform from their smartphones, tablet, or PC. The survey even asks about NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and even whether they have purchased second hand smartphones. Keep in mind, the company has yet to announce anything official regarding the crypto wallet, so take this report with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more updates.

Apple MagSafe in iPhones might pose a risk for people with pacemakers

The MagSafe technology that is featured on certain Apple iPhone models might pose a risk to people with pacemakers. The American Heart Association has issued a warning about the possible interference from the MagSafe for people at risk.

Apple

According to an AHA research paper, the pacemaker made by three major brands, including Medtronic, Abbott, and Boston Scientific, were all vulnerable to magnetic interference. In other words, this is potentially quite dangerous for people that have these pacemakers as they might not work correctly. For those unaware, pacemakers are a small device that is used to treat arrhythmia, which causes the heart to beat too fast or too slow or even erratic at times.

AHA noted that “Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max MagSafe technology can cause magnet interference on CIEDs [more commonly known as pacemakers] and has the potential to inhibit lifesaving therapy.” MagSafe from the Cupertino based giant offers wireless charging capabilities and uses magnets to quickly charge devices. Furthermore, the number of magnets housed in the iPhone 12 models is higher than those present in the earlier versions of the device.

Apple

When the iPhones were placed close to 11 different pacemakers and defibrillators, with some implanted in patients and others not. This test resulted in three of the internal devices registering some interferences along with eight of the external ones as well. These interferences could potentially lead to “asynchronous pacing or disabling of anti‐tachycardic therapies.” In a previous statement, Apple had suggested people with pacemakers keep the iPhone and MagSafe accessories more than six inches away from their devices.

Motorola Defy series tipped to launch soon but it won’t be coming to India

Earlier in February this year, a Motorola model appeared on both Google Play Console and GeekBench bearing the moniker Motorola Athena (Defy). The name suggests the unannounced smartphone would be a re-enactment of the classic Motorola Defy which was first launched in 2010. The Defy happened to be the first Android phone ever to have water and dustproof capabilities. Motrola Defy

Since the Play Console and GeekBench listing of the Defy, there have been no other details regarding the specs and launch. However, that has changed as popular tipster Ishan Argawal has reportedly hinted that the Lenovo-owned brand will launch the Defy series soon. This throws up the possibility of the company releasing more than one smartphone. It could also be that we’ll get to see successive models yearly but this will depend on how the series is received in the market. Motorola-Athena-Google-Play-Console-Render-

Unfortunately, for fans in India, the Defy series won’t be meeting with them as the tipster also added that the series will only be launched in markets outside India. However, he failed to mention the markets where the smartphone(s) will be unveiled.

While we are unsure if this news is accurate, it is safe to expect the Motorola Defy any time soon.

As for the expected specifications of the Motorola Defy (Athena), the Google Play Console listing shows that the smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. The phone will also run on Android 10 OS and will have a screen with HD+ resolution. The Play Console listing gave us a view of the front screen showing a waterdrop notch on top of the screen. The way the back cover wraps around the screen to create tightly sealed edges also suggests it may equally come with waterproof and dustproof properties. Recall that the original Motorola Defy was water-resistant and dustproof.

We expect more details of this smartphone to emerge a time goes by.

WhatsApp to soon get multi-device support, disappearing mode, and view once features

WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging applications and despite facing backlash for its newly updated privacy policy and competition from the likes of Telegram and Signal, it continues to lead the market.

The messaging platform, owned by Facebook, keeps adding new features to the application. While the company has already added much-requested features, it is now working on some new features that are highly demanded by users.

WhatsApp

A new report coming from WABetaInfo says that Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, and Will Cathcart, Chief of WhatsApp, have confirmed that the messaging platform will soon get multi-device support for using the app on multiple devices at the same time.

It further adds that Zuckerberg has also confirmed plans for adding a new ‘disappearing mode’ across all chat threads which will allow users to enforce disappearing messages across all of their WhatsApp chat threads.

WhatsApp Disappearing Mode and View Once Mode

This seems like an expansion of a seven-day timer feature that was introduced last year which is also known as disappearing messages. It remains to be seen if WhatsApp is planning to offer more flexibility to users for setting the timer length. Telegram allows users to set the timer for a few seconds to a fixed number of days.

WhatsApp is also planning to add a ‘view once’ feature that will allow users to share media files like photos and videos that can be seen by the recipient just once and after that, it will disappear. This is similar to sending photos on Instagram, another social media platform owned by Facebook.

The report adds that the ‘view once’ feature will start rolling out soon. While the exact date for the rollout of these features is not yet known, it is said that the new features could be made available in a public beta release in the coming months.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE could be arriving as successor for the Galaxy Note 20

Reports have revealed that instead of the launching of a new Galaxy Note series, Samsung will be announcing three flagship devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold3 foldable phone, Galaxy Z Flip3 clamshell with a foldable screen, and Galaxy S21 FE. While the moniker of the Galaxy S21 FE suggests that it is a successor for the Galaxy S20 FE from last year, reputed tipster Evan Blass has claimed that it will be a “follow-up to the last year’s Note” series.

The Galaxy S21 series went official at the beginning of this year with several upgrades, and it was priced lower than the Galaxy S20 lineup in many markets. Blass claimed that the Galaxy S21 series has met disappointing first-half sales, which makes Samsung’s second-half flagship even more critical. While there is no official confirmation yet, Blass further revealed that the S21 series have not achieved the same success as the Galaxy S10 lineup did.

Since the Galaxy S21 FE is now speculated to arrive as a follow-up for the Note 20 line, there is a possibility that it may carry support for an S Pen like the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which was first non-Note series phone with stylus support. The Galaxy S21 FE moniker had appeared on Samsung Mexico’s website in April, but there is on official confirmation on its moniker yet. If the handset is going to arrive with stylus support, it may carry a Note branding.

Reports have revealed that the S21 FE bears the SM-G990 model number, and it was recently spotted at Geekbench with specs like the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform, 6 GB of RAM, and Android 11 OS. It is expected to offer users with other features like a 6.4-inch AMOLED Infinity-O display, a 32-megapixel front camera, and a 4,500mAh battery. It may come in colors like grey/silver, green, pink, purple, and white. The S21 FE may go official with the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 on Aug. 19.

Realme plans to launch 5G smartphone priced under ₹10,000 ($137) by 2022

The majority of the new smartphones getting launched now comes with support for 5G connectivity even though the infrastructure for the next-generation communication is still limited to certain countries only.

India is yet to start 5G trials in the country but smartphones in the upper-midrange to premium segment come with 5G support. But, phone manufacturers are aiming to capture a wider maker share with 5G support in budget phones.

Realme 8 5G

In line with that, Madhav Sheth, Vice President of Realme and CEO of Realme India and Europe has revealed that the brand is planning to launch a 5G smartphone priced under ₹10,000 ($137) by the end of next year, i.e. 2022.

This was revealed in the first edition of Realme Global 5G Summit which was hosted in partnership with Counterpoint Research, GSMA, and Qualcomm. At the event, the company gave us an insight into their plans for the industry going forward.

Realme’s plan of launching a ₹10,000 5G smartphone seems a bit ambitious but it’s quite possible given that the company already has a budget 5G smartphone priced under ₹15,000 in the Indian market — Realme 8 5G, which costs ₹14,999.

At the summit, the company pledged to bring the technology to more users worldwide. In 2020, Realme launched 14 5G phones in 21 markets, accounting for around 40 percent of all its products. By 2022, Realme aims to increase the number of its 5G product offerings to over 20, upping the ratio to 70 percent across 50 markets.

The Chinese company is aiming to have 100 million 5G phone consumers within the next three years and to reach that target, it is planning to establish over 10 5G pop-up stores around the world in 2021 where potential customers will be able to experience 5G through cloud gaming, augmented reality (AR), and live broadcasting, among others.

United States places investment ban on several major Chinese companies like Huawei and SMIC

It seems that the trade war between China and the United States isn’t slowing down. In a new development, US President Joe Biden has signed an executive order that bans companies based in the United States from investing in Chinese companies.

The list includes dozens of Chinese companies with alleged ties to the defense or surveillance technology sectors. This new order basically expands the scope of the legally flawed move by the Trump administrator.

The US Treasury Department will enforce and update a list of companies on “rolling basis” which currently includes about 59 companies. The orders bars buying or selling publicly traded securities in target companies. It also prevents U.S. investment from supporting the Chinese military-industrial complex, as well as military, intelligence, and security research and development programs.

Treasury Department would give guidance later on what the scope of surveillance technology means, including whether companies are facilitating “repression or serious human rights abuses.”

Major Chinese firms included on the previous Defense Department list were also placed on the updated list, including Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC), China Mobile Communications Group, China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC), Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co Ltd, Huawei Technologies Ltd, and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC).

The move is being viewed as a part of Biden’s broader series of steps to counter China, including reinforcing U.S. alliances and pursuing large domestic investments to bolster American economic competitiveness.

Nintendo has not put any info out yet on the release date for the Switch Pro. The E3 Gaming Conference is slated for June 15. Although we do not expect any announcement relating to the Switch Pro at that event, Nintendo is billed to unveil new Switch games at the event.

Lyft’s self-designed e-bike has a 60-mile range and is reflective at night

After about three years of development, US bike-sharing company Lyft is introducing its first in-house electric bike. The Lyft e-bike features a 500-watt electric motor and a single gear drivetrain. With a strong battery, the e-bike can go up to 60 miles on a full charge, providing greater width for persons who want to go on a commute with minimal energy. The presence of an electric motor makes the bike relatively easy to operate and maintain.Lyft e-bike

The Lyft e-bike was designed such that the power cell and connecting cables were built into the bike’s frame to give a durable and more secure bike. The painting on the frame features a retroreflective design that makes the e-bike reflect light at night, similar to road signs that illuminate at night. There is an LED lighting system at the front of the bike to illuminate the biker at night.Lyft e-bike

The rear wheel houses a hydraulic solid disc brake to provide braking power to the bike. Lyft has added several sensors that will provide data that will help the company maintain the bikes in top conditions over time. The seat is also designed to accommodate diverse riders of different heights.

Lyft bought Motivate, the Citibike parent company, in 2018, and it has expanded its network of bike sharing across the United States since then. The new Lyft e-bike will join the company’s fleet across the US. A pilot run will commence in Lyft’s Bay Wheels fleet next week. The company has seen a surge in requests for its bikes since the pandemic began. Indeed the coronavirus pandemic was a significant factor that contributed to the seeming explosion of bike-hailing and bike sharing across the world.Lyft e-bike

With physical distancing as one of the important preventive protocols, many people chose the option of using bike services to move around. Last year alone, Lyft logged about 1.8 million new users, indicating a growing demand for its services. In addition, the requests for e-bikes were up 2x more than the manually operated bikes.

Design

Despite it is the only one with a fat display, the OPPO Reno6 is a very interesting phone in terms of form factor. Indeed, it comes with flat borders just like the iPhone 12 series, and it is the only Android phone released in 2021 from a mainstream manufacturer with this kind of design. On the other hand, with the OPPO Reno6 Pro, you get a very elegant design including a curved edge-to-edge screen and a very thin profile (the thickness is just 7.6 mm), as well as a lightweight body. The OPPO Reno6 Pro+ is a heavier Reno6 Pro with a thicker body.

Display

The OPPO Reno6 Pro and the Reno6 Pro+ are equipped with better displays than the vanilla Reno6. They have a diagonal of 6.55 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ certification. But the OPPO Reno6 is not disappointing: it still comes with an AMOLED Full HD+ display and a 90 Hz refresh rate, but the image quality and the brightness are inferior. All the phones feature an in-display fingerprint reader.

Specs & Software

The OPPO Reno6 is just a midrange phone as it is powered by the Dimensity 900 chipset by MediaTek. With OPPO Reno6 Pro and Reno6 Pro+, you can get flagship-class performance thanks to the Dimensity 1200 and the Snapdragon 870 mobile platform paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. The Snapdragon 870 is actually better than Dimensity 1200, so Reno6 Pro+ wins the hardware comparisons. The phones are based on Android 11 and customized by the new ColorOS 11.3.

Camera

OPPO Reno6 and Reno6 Pro are midrange-class camera phones. They both feature a 64 MP main camera and an 8 MP ultrawide camera, but the Reno6 Pro+ has a pair of 2 MP sensors, while the vanilla Reno6 has just a single 2 MP. The difference is just marginal between these phones, but it becomes huge with the OPPO Reno6 Pro+. This device is a top-camera phone with its 50 MP main camera equipped with OIS, a 13 MP telephoto sensor with optical zoom, a 16 MP ultrawide camera, and a 2 MP macro lens.

Battery

The OPPO Reno6 has a smaller 4300 mAh battery, while the Reno6 Pro and the Reno6 Pro+ both come with a 4500 mAh unit which can provide a longer battery life. Note that the Reno6 Pro has a chipset built with a better 6 nm production process, which can allow a lower energy consumption. The phones all feature 65W fast charging and they all lack wireless charging.

Price

The OPPO Reno6 series is only available in China for now. The vanilla Reno6 has a €360 starting price in the country, the Reno6 Pro costs €450 in its base variant, and the Reno6 Pro+ starts from €520. The OPPO Reno6 brings a fresh and original design to the market, but it is a mid-range phone and it cannot compete with the other two variants if we exclude the price. It comes with an inferior chipset, display, cameras, and battery. Between OPPO Reno6 Pro and Reno6 Pro+, there are fewer differences: the camera department is the only significant one, given that the Reno6 Pro is a mid-range camera phone and the Reno6 Pro+ has flagship cameras.
