Samsung showcases two futuristic home robots, also announces JetBot 90 AI+ vacuum cleaner & SmartThings Cooking

Samsung is one of the world’s largest electronics companies. The firm sells a wide variety of products across the world. Like any other tech giant, it has also announced certain cutting-edge home products at the virtual CES 2021 trade show. Let us take a look at a few interesting ones in this article

Samsung Home Robots

Samsung showcased three new home robots at CES 2021. Out of which, one of them will be available for purchase in the first half of this year in the US. Whereas, the other two don’t have any release dates.

Samsung JetBot 90 AI+

This robot is a vacuum cleaner with LiDAR and 3D sensors for location tracking and object recognition. Powered by Intel AI, it uses a digital inverter motor for 30W suction power. It has a self-cleaning brush and automatically returns to the Clean Station, a disposal system with a bag to empty the dust, dirt, and whatever it has collected. This bag needs to be replaced only every two to three months.

The Samsung JetBot 90 AI+ can be controlled via the Samsung SmartThings app. Unlike the below-mentioned robots, this one will go on sale in the US in H1 2021.

Samsung Bot Care

As the name suggests, this robot is designed to be the user’s assistant and companion. It not only learns the user’s schedule, habits and helps them with reminders throughout the day but also has a display for attending video conferences and more.

Samsung Bot Handy

Just like the previous model, this one’s name reveals its function. This robot can pick up objects of varying sizes, shapes, and weight. Samsung says that it can help the users in doing dishes, laundry, clearing rooms, setting the tablet, and more. The company says that it becomes an extension of the user to help them with work around the house.

SmartThings Cooking

SmartThings Cooking is a new standalone service available via the SmartThings app. It allows Samsung Family Hub series refrigerator owners to access an automatic meal planner powered by Whisk, a smart food platform acquired by Samsung NEXT in 2019.

This service not only recommends meals for the whole week but also automatically creates shopping lists with the ingredients needed. It even offers an option to connect to grocery retailers like Walmart, Kroger, Instacart, and Amazon Fresh for one-stop shopping.

Talking about the recipe function, it helps users step by step in preparation and even supports sending recipe instructions directly to synced Samsung cooking devices.

LG quietly teases its Rollable Smartphone at CES 2021 (Update: Video)

A few years ago, there were speculations that flexible display which would feature on foldable phones were the next big thing waiting to happen in the industry. Since then, a number of flexible display-packing models have hit the ground running but the technology is still in its infancy. Display maker LG is working on several solutions to fast track the adoption of the technology.

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2021, LG has teased the much-touted rollable smartphone. Rollable smartphones are gradually becoming a thing and although LG doesn’t have one yet, there have been several leaks surrounding an upcoming foldable from the tech giant.

LG basically used the rollable smartphone seemingly held by someone to project the “virtual” stage at its event with Jin-hong Kim who is the SVP and Head of Global Marketing at LG speaking at the event.

It is just what it is, a teaser, and nothing more. LG didn’t mention anything about the rollable smartphone at the event. That isn’t a surprise, though, as CES is not typically where LG announces its smartphones. LG usually keeps any smartphone announcement at CES to mid-range and entry-level models and not flagships. The company may unveil the rollable smartphone later this year, perhaps at MWC.

LG has a rollable OLED TV that is actually available to buy, so seeing a rollable smartphone is not a big surprise. It’s essentially the same thing but in a smaller package.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen a rollable smartphone though. Last year at CES, TCL showed off a rollable smartphone. However, it was a non-working prototype. It basically had a printed screen on it. So you could roll and unroll it, but couldn’t open Twitter and other apps on it. OPPO also showed off a rollable phone last year, which actually worked.

So rollable phones are likely to be the next big thing, in the world of smartphones. And it’s going to be impressive to see how this works.

TCL 20 5G and TCL 20 SE smartphones announced at CES 2021

The first virtual-event of the CES 2021 has started and TCL, which is popular as a Smart TV brand, begins its year with a bang. The company has launched the successors of the TCL 10 smartphones from last year.

TCL 20 5G, 20 SE Price, Availability

TCL’s new smartphones will comprise of the TCL 20 SE, TCL 20 5G, TCL 20 Pro 5G, TCL 20L, and TCL 20S. Among these, the company is currently launching two devices- TCL 20 5G and TCL 20 SE.

You can get the TCL 20 5G in 6GB + 128GB variant for a price of €299. The device will be available in Europe following which you can expect in other regions in the coming months. The TCL 20 SE, on the other hand, will be an entry-level device retailing at €149. It will be available in Asia Pacific, LATAM later in 2021.

TCL 20 5G, 20 SE Specifications and Features

Talking about the TCL 20 5G first, it has a Glass Build on both sides. Sporting either a Mist Gray or Placid Blue color, the device measures 166.2 x 76.8 x 9.1 mm and weighs 206g. As the name goes, it is the successor to the TCL 10 5G but it sports a mid-range SoC. Besides, it features a 6.67-inch FHD+ LCD display.

Barring the SoC, TCL hasn’t compromised on premium features as the 20:9 punch-hole display supports HDR10. Under the hood, you get the Snapdragon 690 5G SoC. This is paired with Adreno 619L GPU, DDR4x RAM, and UFS 2.1 storage.

For the Triple-cameras, it has a 48MP f/1.8 main, 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro. Upfront, you get an 8MP f/2.0 selfie shooter. TCL 20 SE is an out-of-nowhere entry-level device from the company. It’s a bit bigger than the TCL 20 but has inferior specs. Measuring 172.08 x 77.14 x 9.1mm and weighing the same as the 206g, TCL would have probably balanced it on the build material.

The device features a 6.82-inch HD+ LCD display with a waterdrop notch. Since it’s taller, it has a 20.5:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, Snapdragon 460 SoC powers the device paired with 4GB RAM, 64GB eMMC/128GB UFS 2.1 storage.

As for the optics, it has a quad-camera layout with 48MP f/2.0/16MP f/1.8 main, 5MP wide-angle, and two 2MP sensor. Upfront, there is either a 13MP f/2.2/8MP f/2.0 sensor for selfies. Microsoft Surface Pro 7 Plus announced with significant upgrades but no 5G

Microsoft announced a new Surface 2-in-1 computer today. While a lot of people expected the new model to arrive as the Surface Pro 8, Microsoft has decided to call it the Surface Pro 7 Plus. Don’t be fooled by the name, this is not a bigger model but there are some really significant upgrades over the Surface Pro 7 from 2019.

Surface Pro 7 Plus featured

The Surface Pro 7 Plus has a similar design to the original, so you get the same 12.3-inch with a 2736 x 1824 resolution and not the thinnest of bezels, same connectivity ports (a single USB-C port, a single USB-A port, a Surface Connect port, and an audio jack). There is an LTE version that has a nano-SIM tray but on the Wi-Fi version, you get a MicroSD card reader.

EDITOR’S PICK: Apple M1-powered MacBook successfully runs Windows 10

Powering the Surface Pro 7 Plus is an Intel 11th-Gen processor. It can be configured up to Core i7, up to 32GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of SSD storage. However, only the Core i5 model has optional LTE. One big upgrade that the Surface Pro 7 Plus boasts of is a removable SSD. Microsoft had to redesign the internals so that the SSD can be easily accessible.

Surface Pro 7 Plus SSD

Battery life has improved from 10 hours on the Surface Pro 7 to 15 hours thanks to the bigger 50.4Wh battery inside it. Robin Seiler, the company’s VP, told The Verge in an interview that they updated the Thermal Design Module to make space for the bigger battery.

If you like the Surface Pro 7 Plus, you may not be able to get it as Microsoft says that it will be made available only for businesses and schools. It will begin shipping on January 15 for a starting price of $899 for the base model that has a Core-i3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.

Samsung 65W USB-C Charger appears online; Will Galaxy S21 Ultra support it?

Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S21 series on January 14. Ahead of the event, a 65W Samsung charging brick has appeared online and the Galaxy S21 Ultra might support it.

samsung 65w Charger
Samsung 65w Charger Leak

As posted by Twitter users, @Chunvn888 and @diogofer777(via LetsGoDigital), a Samsung Charger appears in White Color. If you look closely, it has a model number EP-TA865. Recall, a charger with the same model number cleared Korea’s NRRA certification back in September.

The listing designated it as a Travel Adapter suggesting that could be a charging brick. Secondly, it showed Vietnam’s Solum Vina Co Ltd.,  as the manufacturer. Coming back, this charging brick also has both the Vietnam and Model number info confirming it’s that same charger.

The images show that the Charger has a maximum output of [email protected]= 65W. Additionally, it has a Type-C in port which means the cable you have to use is a USB-C to USB-C. The image also shows that it’s PD(Power Delivery) and PPS(Programmable Power Supply) certified.

Now, one might wonder how the Galaxy S21 Ultra let alone the entire series will support this charging tech. That’s cos early reports strongly indicate that they will support 45W charging at max. However, if we recall, an early rumor said that Samsung’s upcoming Exynos will be equipped to support charging up to 65W. And the S21 Ultra might get it as an exclusive.

Also, with Samsung excluding the chargers in the box for the S21 Series, this would be a great time to launch an exclusive fast charging adapter. Either way, we will have to wait and see if Samsung unveils this on Thursday or reserves it for the Galaxy Note 21(Tentative).

Samsung showcases its next-gen Digital Cockpit for smart cars

Samsung has just unveiled its Digital Cockpit for smart cars. The Digital Cockpit 2021 is powered by Harman’s automotive technology and features several screens both inside and outside the car, enhanced safety capabilities, super-fast 5G connectivity, and an all-around comfortable user experience.Samsung Digital Cockpit 2021

With the release of Digital Cockpit 2021, Samsung is actualizing its desire that connected cars should not be limited to just transportation but to become comfortable living spaces for every user and passenger. The huge dashboard display inside the car is powered by a QLED panel, while an OLED panel controls the center console. The Digital Cockpit also encompasses an outside display (on the front grille) that provides alerts and notifications to pedestrians, and this is powered by a MicroLED panel.Samsung Digital Cockpit 2021

The Digital Cockpit has dedicated media and gaming modes that produce an immersive entertainment experience. A dedicated media mode reveals the full screen on the dashboard and ingresses the steering. When the system is in Gaming Mode, two stereo speakers emerge from the seat’s headrest to offer an immersive audio experience.Samsung Digital Cockpit 2021

In addition, there is a Creator Studio that provides users the option of quickly editing photos and videos while on the move. There is also a large screen on the rear seat which helps users switch between landscape and portrait modes. Passengers in the connected car can also access this screen via their Galaxy smartphones or tablets using Wireless DeX to turn it into a mobile workstation.Samsung Digital Cockpit 2021

The safety system of the Digital Cockpit is a combination of 360-degree cameras and deep learning in ensuring both passenger and pedestrian safety. The four 360-degree cameras outside the car help to recognize nearby vehicles and pedestrians, using a deep learning algorithm to show additional statistics and alerts while the car is moving. The next-gen Digital Cockpit also features Samsung Health, which syncs with the Galaxy Watch to provide important health and emotional fitness data like the driver’s energy, emotional, and stress levels. When the driver seems fatigued, the connected car advises the driver to take a break and have some rest.Samsung Digital Cockpit 2021

When pedestrians are detected in front of the car, they are alerted using speakers and the outside screen. The rear-view mirror’s functionality is carried out by a floating screen on the top of the windshield. The floating screen also displays various driving and weather-related information as well as notifications such as local news and sports scores.

The Digital Cockpit 2021 is powered by Samsung’s latest Exynos Auto V9 processor with 5G connectivity, GPS, and Wi-Fi connectivity. It uses Qualcomm’s 5G modem and beamforming antennas for ultra-fast internet speeds even when the connected car is in high-speed motion.

The hardware can run Android and Linux operating systems simultaneously.
The company however did not provide a timeline of actualization of the Digital Cockpit 2021.

After vivo, OPPO could launch a Smartphone with Snapdragon 480 5G SoC soon

vivo recently unveiled the vivo Y31s as the world’s first Snapdragon 480 5G smartphone. Now, its sister OPPO seems to be working on a device with the same SoC. An OPPO smartphone has now appeared on Geekbench and it could be the company’s next affordable 5G device.

An OPPO smartphone with model number PEHT00 appears on the Geekbench database. For starters, this isn’t a new device. A device with the same model number has already cleared China’s 3C certification. It showed that the device had ‘5G support’ and a charging speed up to 18W.

Anyway, the Geekbench shows that the same PEHT00 device runs on a motherboard codenamed ‘holi’. If we recall, this is the codename of the recently launched Snapdragon 480 chipset whose part number is SM4350. This is further confirmed by the code snippet of the Geekbench listing webpage which shows that it has Adreno 619 GPU.

The device in testing scores 522 and 1,513 on Single and Multi-core Scores respectively. Apart from this, the Geekbench also reveals that the OPPO’s device runs 8GB RAM, Android 11 OS. In contrast, if you look at the vivo Y31s it has only a single 6GB RAM variant.

That said, we don’t have any other info as to when OPPO will launch it or it’s price and other specs. However, we can guess that OPPO might debut it somewhere inside the A-series considering it has a lower charging support.

And the ‘PE’ in the model number suggests that it will land first in China before making it to the other markets. Either way, let’s hope that more d details of the device gets leaked in the coming days.

Apple and Hyundai Motor expected to reach agreement for Apple Car by March

A few days ago, it was confirmed that Hyundai Motor is in talks with Apple for the production of the tech giant’s ambitious project of making its own autonomous driving vehicle, which is currently being referred to as Apple Car.

Now, a new report claims that both the companies — Hyundai Motor and Apple could reach an agreement for the production of the Apple Car by March this year. It also adds that the production could start as soon as 2024.

Apple Logo

Both the companies are hoping to produce around 100,000 vehicles in 2024, claims the report coming via Reuters. Eventually, the plan is to reach the production goal of 400,000 vehicles annually.

Further, it claims that the “beta version” of the Apple Car could go into testing as soon as next year. It’s noteworthy that currently there’s no information available about the specification and features of the Apple Car.

But, it is being reported that the company is planning to use a new special battery technology for the upcoming Smart Car. It was also reported earlier that a part of the development of components for the car will take place at Hyundai Motors’ facilities in the United States.

The timeline of making commercial cars by 2024 seems aggressive and has already been questioned by many, including notable Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Some reports indicate that it will take around 5-7 years for the Apple Car to go into production.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro’s early listing by Staples reveals images, price & features

Coming on the heels of the expected launch of three flagship smartphones, tech giant Samsung is set for another important announcement of the release of an upgraded pair of TWS earbuds in its first big showcase event of 2021.

The earbuds called Galaxy Buds Pro had been the subject of speculations amid a number of leaks revealing its features from the design to the color options, and other eye-catching features, as well as the projected price of Samsung’s top-notch response to the next-gen AirPods by its competitor.

It would seem that Canada-based retailer, Staples has jumped the gun by preempting Samsung with their release of the full details of the “Samsung Galaxy Attic” on its website, several days ahead of the official launch slated for January 14.

It is yet unclear how Staples got such details about a yet-to-be-launched product from its producer. Staples also confirms three color variants each expected to cost a princely $210 when converted from the Canadian Dollar to the US Dollar, which is a bit lower than the cost of Apple’s flagship AirPods Pro by up to $50, which has been having rave reviews in recent weeks.Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro

The new truly wireless earbuds, like their predecessor, the Galaxy Buds Live, support state-of-the-art active noise cancellation technology, with a sleek design reflecting Samsung’s high preference for producing works of art that are a marvel to behold. The audio quality is also expected to be vastly improved because of an 11mm woofer and 6.5mm tweeter masterfully built into each earbud, yielding excellent sounds. However, an important drawback may be that the battery life of both the Galaxy Buds+ and Buds Live is put at a maximum of 5 hours on a single full charge, which seems a downgrading from the battery capacity of earlier models.

A note of caution is however apposite so as to temper your expectations with reality. Staples had stated that the yet-to-be-released “Samsung Galaxy Attic” was both out of stock for delivery and unavailable in physical stores presently till possibly Thursday 14 January. keep an eye on Staples and don’t be shocked if they suddenly pull down the listing.

Back in Q3 last year, Lenovo announced the LCD version of the Yoga Slim 7i Pro. It had the  11th-gen Tiger Lake CPUs that Intel unveiled back in September. This OLED version aims to amp up the contrast, and vibrant colors compared to the LCD variant. Lenovo says that the OLED(Organic LED) display is produced by Samsung Display.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro OLED Display

Talking about the display, the Yoga Slim 7i Pro version gets a 14-inch OLED display. And, just like the LCD counterpart, this one also gets a 2.8K(2880 x 1800) resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. However, it has a Chrominance(Chroma) value amped up by a factor of 1.25. This reportedly means you get higher color frequency and deeper Blacks.

Other features of the OLED display includes a 667 times amplified contrast ratio, 100% DCI-P3, and 125% sRGB color gamut coverage. Additionally, the display also supports HDR, Dolby Vision. If this isn’t enough, Lenovo claims that you can work with this laptop in Direct Sunlight which will also reduce the blue-light emission by 70% compared to LCD.

Yoga Slim 7i Pro (OLED) Features

Talking about the design, the laptop measures 12.3x 8.7x 0.7(in) and weighs 1.45kg. It comes in a Single Slate Gray Color option. As for the I/O, you get 2xUSB Type-C™ with Intel’s Thunderbolt 4 support, 1xUSB-A 3.2 Gen 1, 1×3.5mm audio/mic jack.

For Specs, you can configure it up to Intel’s 11 Gen i7 CPU which also comes with Intel’s Iris Xe built-in. If you want more, you can always add the external graphics up to NVIDIA GeForce MX450.

Other features include RAM up to 16GB, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 6 certified, IR Camera, Harman Speakers with Dolby Atmos, 61WHr battery, and Intel’s Evo Certification(verification by Q2 2021).

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro (OLED) Pricing, Availability

Lenovo hasn’t precisely shared a launch date or Price for the Yoga Slim 7i Pro OLED yet. However, it says the laptop will be available in AP(Asia-Pacific), Europe, Middle East, and Africa later in 2021.

If we recall, the LCD version debuted at around €799, and hence, we can expect something around the same for the OLED if not lesser. It’s worth noting that Lenovo says the OLED version isn’t available in North America.

vivo Y51A goes official as a vivo Y51 with Snapdragon 662 and same price

Earlier today, vivo unveiled the world’s first Snapdragon 480 smartphone in the form of vivo Y31s in China. Whereas, at around the same time, the brand also launched vivo Y51A, a toned-down version of vivo Y51 in India. Let us take a look at the specs, features, and price of this handset in this post.

vivo Y51A Titanium Sapphire Featured

vivo Y51A Specifications and Features

The newly released vivo Y51A is identical to the already launched vivo Y51. The only major difference is that the latest device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 662, instead of Snapdragon 665.

Apart from the above-mentioned dissimilarity, the new handset has the exact same specs as the old model. Hence, it also comes in a single 8GB + 128GB storage configuration with an indistinguishable design and colors (Crystal Symphony, Titanium Sapphire).

The smartphone flaunts a 6.58-inch IPS LCD panel on the front with a resolution of 2408 × 1080 pixels (FHD+) and a dewdrop notch housing a 16MP selfie camera. On the other hand, the back of the device sports a triple camera setup consisting of a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide unit, and a 2MP macro shooter.

On the connectivity front, the phone supports 4G (dual-SIM), dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GNSS (GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS, Galileo), 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C port. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, compass, gyroscope, MicroSD card slot, Funtouch OS 11 based on Android 11, and a 5000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.

Last but not least, the vivo Y51A measures 163.86 × 75.32 × 8.38mm in dimensions and weighs around 188g.

vivo Y51A Pricing and Availability

The vivo Y51A is priced at ₹17,990 ($245) in India. Weirdly, this is the same price for which the vivo Y51 debuted in India in early December. Anyway, the phone can be purchased from vivo e-store, Amazon, Flipkart, Paytm, TataCliq, and other popular online as well as offline retailers across the country.

As part of launch offers, interested customers can avail ₹1,000 cashback using HDFC Bank cards, zero downpayment schemes from Bajaj Finserv, Home Credit, IDFC First Bank, HDB Credit, and ICICI Bank. Additionally, VI (Vodafone Idea) customers can get some recharge benefits.

Red Magic 6′ battery capacity revealed; will support 120W fast charging too

Earlier today, Black Shark revealed some key specs of its upcoming smartphone, the Black Shark 4. Now, Nubia’s Red Magic has followed suit with a tease of some of the specs of the Red Magic 6, and from the details revealed, both phones will share similar specifications.

According to a poster shared by the official Red Magic Weibo account, the Red Magic 6 will have support for 120W fast charging and also have a 4500mAh battery capacity. This is the same battery capacity and charging speed as the Black Shark 4, which means folks will have to look at other features before choosing which of the two phones they want.

Red Magic 6 poster

The Red Magic 6 is expected to have a 1080p display, most likely AMOLED, with a refresh rate of 144Hz or above. It will also have a Snapdragon 888 processor, 5G support, an in-display fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, and an audio jack. Just like its predecessors, the Red Magic 6 will not have support for wireless charging. We expect it to run Android 11 out of the box considering that older phones such as the Red Magic 3 have been updated to Android 11.

With respect to design, we don’t know what Nubia has planned. A video surfaced last month that showed a Red Magic phone with an electrochromic glass back panel. The phone has a switch on the side which when turned on or off changes the glass from see-through to opaque. There are speculations that the device may be the Red Magic 6.

The Red Magic 5G didn’t join the punch hole bandwagon and we do not think Nubia will do so now. To be honest, I believe gaming phones are better with an “uninterrupted” display. There is no launch date for the Red Magic 6 yet but its launch should not be far off.
