One of the products expected to launch at today’s OnePlus event is the OnePlus Watch but that didn’t happen. The device was certified by the IMDA in August, and last month, a leak revealed the smartwatch will have a round dial. While it didn’t launch today, OnePlus has confirmed that a smartwatch is indeed coming.
A tweet by the OnePlus India account shows the sketch for a wearable that was made back in 2015, revealing that OnePlus has actually been planning it for a while.
The tweet has the caption “More things are coming to the OnePlus ecosystem. It’s just a matter of time”. The second sentence also hints at the coming of a OnePlus timepiece.
There is no info on when the smartwatch will arrive, and if you were to ask us, we do not think it will arrive this year. We believe OnePlus may want to unveil such an important product alongside a flagship device such as the OnePlus 9 or OnePlus 9 Pro. Nevertheless, this is just speculation and we anticipate its arrival.
The LG G8X launched last year as LG’s flagship for the second half. The Snapdragon 855-powered phone which comes with a dual-screen accessory launched for INR 49,999 (~$682) in India. When Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale begins later this week, it will sell for less than half the launch price. If you plan to pick it up, there is something you should know.
The official LG India Twitter account revealed in a tweet that the LG G8X will not come with a charger or adapter in the box during the festive sale. The tweet was a reply to an inquiry by Tech YouTuber, C4ETech, who asked for confirmation on the reports about the phone not shipping with a charger.
Thank you for writing to us. The product LG G8X mobile does not come with a charger/adapter during the festive sale on Flipkart. You need to buy it separately by visiting the nearest LG service center. The product is genuine and original. It’s not refurbished material.
LG says users will have to purchase a charger separately at an LG service center. It also clarified that the phone is new and not refurbished even though it lacks a charger.
It is surprising that the phone isn’t shipping with a charger since that was not the case when it launched last year. The device is currently listed on Flipkart for INR 54,990 (~$750) but when the sales begin on October 16, the device will sell for INR 19,999 (~$273) with the Dual Screen accessory in the box.
The LG G8X has a 6.4-inch OLED FHD+ display with a waterdrop notch and Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The Snapdragon 855 processor is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.
There is a 32MP camera in front for selfies while the back which is covered with Gorilla Glass 5 has a 12MP primary camera + 13MP ultrawide angle camera setup. There is an in-display fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers with 3D surround sound, and Hi-Fi Quad DAC. It also has NFC, an IP68 rating, and a 4000mAh battery with support for 21W fast charging, Quick Charge 4.0, and 9W wireless charging.
For INR 19,999, the LG G8X seems like a really good deal with all it has to offer and you should be able to get a supported wired charger for under INR 2000 (~$27).
AnTuTu, a benchmarking application, has released a ranking of best price-to-performance smartphones for September 2020. The charts are divided based on the price segment and value for money score is given accordingly. So, devices like Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi 10X 5G, iQOO 3, and 5 Pro top the charts in their own categories.
First, the AnTuTu report has a few pre-requisites and standards to make the list. The test is calculated using the V8 version of the AnTuTu app. Besides, it has prepared the ranking charts by dividing the “Performance score” by “Current Price”(in China). Also, the pre-requisite for the device is it must make it to the overall AnTuTu performance ranking. The report also says that if the device doesn’t make it to the performance list, or if its current availability is doubtful, it won’t make it to the list.
1. Low budget category- 0 to 1499 yuan($0-$223)
Begining the list is a budget category of devices whose range is between 0-1499 yuan($0-223). As per the AnTuTu report, Redmi Note 8 Pro 6GB/64GB tops the chart. It is selling for 1099 yuan in China and scores a 284,641 on AnTuTu. Hence, it gets a value for money score of 259. It is followed by Redmi 9, Redmi 10X 4G, Honor Play 4T Pro, Redmi K30, Realme V5 5G, and Vivo Y5s.
Factors like Price, and features like copper-cooling, 64MP camera, MediaTek Helio G90T on Redmi Note 8 Pro, and FHD display, MediaTek Helio G80 has reportedly made them popular. And topple the likes of more powerful Redmi 10X 4G, and Realme V5.
2. Budget category 1500-1999 yuan($223-$297)
This list is again dominated by Redmi devices with Redmi 10X 5G, K30 Ultra, K30 5G captured the first three spots. Accordingly, their score is 250, 240.9, and 202.9 respectively. The list also has other entrants like iQOO Z1x, Honor X10, Redmi K30i 5G, Honor 9X, Mi 10 Youth Edition 5G, Vivo Y70s, OPPO A92s.
3. Mid-range category 2000-2999 yuan($297-$446)
As we move to the higher price segments, competitors like iQOO, Realme come to squeeze Redmi that is dominant in budget range. The iQOO’s Z1 and Neo 3 grab the top two spots with scores 233.2, and 216 respectively. Also, MediaTek’s Dimensity SoC dominates the scene with the Dimensity 1000 devices acquiring substantial positions. The list has other entrants like Redmi K30 Pro, Redmi 10X Pro 5G, Honor 20 Pro, Huawei nova6 5G, Honor Play4 Pro, and Honor 30S, and Huawei nova7 SE.
As we climb up to the flagship territory, Qualcomm Snapdragon devices start to shake the charts. This category has iQOO 3 topping the chart with a score of 181.0. It is followed by Oppo Ace 2, and Black Shark 3 with scores of 178.4, and 176.3. Interestingly, Black Shark 3 captures the third spot, while Aus’s ROG 3 is pushed down to last. Besides, all of the devices have Snapdragon 8 series of SoCs, faster UFS memory, faster charging, and higher MP cameras. Hence, the value for money hovers a bit less and it will probably boil down to the UI that a user prefers.
Finally, the premium flagship is once more dominated by iQOO. This time it’s the iQOO 5 Pro. It’s 8GB/256GB variant topped the chart with a score of 132.0. It is followed by Xiaomi’s Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition (Ultra) and Mi 10 Pro smartphones with scores of 119.9, and 119.2 respectively.
The list has other entrants from Vivo, Oppo, OnePlus but Samsung’s Galaxy S20 and S20+ surprisingly occupy the last two places.

OnePlus Nord Specifications
That said, the rest of the device is identical. Its base variant 6GB/64GB variant starts at ₹24,999 exclusively for India. Apple yesterday took the wraps off the iPhone 12 series which is made up of four different models – iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. As usual, the iPhone 12 models have continued to generate mixed reactions in the industry. It is not common for you to see a review of another brand’s product from a viral brand exec bu when it is Apple, expect anything.
Redmi’s product director Wang Teng Thomas shared its thoughts about the iPhone 12 models. While his opinion is entirely personal, they could sway a few buyers. The Xiaomi exec extolled the iPhone 12 as having the largest upgrade out of the four models. This is in comparison to the iPhone 11. Apple utilised an OLED screen for the 12 and 12 mini. The models also come with 5G connectivity and A14 Bionic chipset. Mr Wang believes the iPhone 12 will see the most sales over time.
On the other hand, he opined that the iPhone 12 Pro upgrade isn’t worth the price and gave a prediction that it may be the worst-selling model among the lot.
The iPhone 12 mini comes with a 5.4-inch screen while the iPhone 12 has a 6.1-inch screen. The iPhone 12 Pro utilises a 6.1-inch display and the iPhone 12 Pro Max packs a 6.7-inch screen. The major highlight of the iPhone 12 series is definitely the 5G connectivity onboard. Some may also find the shift from LCD to OLED panel on the base models fascinating.
Alongside the OnePlus 8T, the company has launched an affordable Truly Wireless Earbuds, OnePlus Buds Z. Starting at $43.5(₹3,190) in India, the earbuds offer 10mm drivers, IP55 rating, and more.

The company says the earbuds supports fast charging and a 10-minute charge gives up to 3hrs playback. However, the 3hrs is a combination of earbuds and case which means the earbuds will give about 1.5hrs playback. Also, it requires a minimum of 5V~0.6A charger and a Type-C cable.

The Snapdragon 865 is the same chipset utilised on the OnePlus 8 and it teams up with a Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System, which enables staggering multi-gigabit 5G connectivity, professional-quality photography at Gigapixel speeds, desktop-level gaming with ultra-realistic graphics, and intuitive AI experiences. The processor also brings support for dual-mode NSA + SA 5G and Wi-Fi 6 enabling faster, more reliable data speeds.

Televisions have become one of the main source of entertainment during the pandemic. This resulted in the increase of TV shipments after a very long time. OLED TVs in particular also witnessed growth in shipments despite the forecast was lowered earlier this year, according to a report by Omdia.
OMDIA (formerly IHS Markit) is a research firm similar to Counterpoint Research and IDC to name a few. Back in April, the firm predicted that OLED TV shipments will be 3.5 million units in 2020. An earlier report by the same company forecasted 4.5 million and at the end of last year, it predicted 5.5 million units.
But now, it says the OLED TV shipments will only reach 3.3 million units, which is still 10% more than in 2019. Also, the company predicts that shipments will reach 1.2 million units in the last quarter of 2020 and 1.04 million units in Q1 2021. According to the firm, the Q4 2020 shipments will be 30% compared to Q4 2019.
That’s not all, as per OMDIA, OLED TV shipments may reach 9 million units in 2024. Above all, the overall shipments have finally crossed 10 million units in September (10.32 million units) since LG launched the first commercial OLED TV in 2013.
Currently, a total of 19 brands offer OLED televisions. This number is expected to grow in the coming years. Last but not least, LG Display is the dominant OLED panel supplier in the world.

LG has a beauty product division called Pra.L. Products under the line include an ultrasonic cleanser for the face, a derma LED mask, and a galvanic ion booster. Now, it has announced a new product called MediHair which is practically a helmet that helps with hair growth.
The LG Pra.L MediHair uses what is called Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) to stimulate hair growth. It does this with the aid of 146 lasers and 104 LED lights which stimulate the stem cells responsible for hair growth and thus slows down baldness. The press release by LG says the LED lights are concentrated where hair loss mostly occurs which is the crown and the front of the head.
LLLT has been approved by the FDA as a treatment for Androgenetic alopecia which is popularly known as male-pattern baldness. LG claims that a clinical study carried out by the Seoul National University Hospital found out that using LG Pra.L MediHair three times a week for 16 weeks does improve hair density and thickness.
There are three main operational modes – a Total Care mode that treats the entire scalp, a Front Care mode that focuses on just the front, and a Top Care mode that focuses on the crown. LG says there is a My Care mode that uses sensors to detect the areas to focus on if the user is not sure which mode to choose.
MediaHair also hs a wear detection sensor that ensures the user wears it properly. there is also a band adjustment dial to make sure the device fits well on the head.
LG says it will hold an event soon where 100 people will receive the LG Pra.L MediHair free of charge. The event will be carried out at public stores. The device itself will be announced at the end of the month. We should know how much it costs then.
Earlier this month, noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Huawei may sell off the Honor smartphone business in order to disentangle that brand from the effect of the US sanction. That report was instantly refuted by the Chinese tech giant. However, Reuter reports that Huawei is currently in talks with Digital China Group and other potential buyers to sell parts of its Honor smartphone unit which was established in 2013. The deal could fetch the tech giant up to 25 billion yuan ($3.7 billion).
The report which quotes people with knowledge of the matter also fingered Digital China Group as the frontrunner to secure the deal but other companies like Xiaomi and electronics manufacturer TCL are also in the picture.
The frontrunner, Digital China is an offshoot of Legend Holdings which later transformed to Lenovo in 2001. we cant say if Digital China group is still a part of the Lenovo holdings but the company has been the main distributor for Honor phones before now.
There is no official word yet on this and according to the source, the assets that would form part of the deal are yet to be finalised. Huawei declined to comment on this report, the same thing for TCL. Reuters says Digital China and Xiaomi did not respond to requests for comment.
In his essay, Ming-chi Kuo noted that if Huawei sells the Honor mobile phone business, it will be a win-win situation for Honor brands, suppliers and China’s electronics industry. The analyst noted that if Honor is independent of Huawei, the procurement of parts will not be restricted by the US ban on Huawei. This he said, will help Honor mobile phone business and suppliers grow. The company may have decided to tow this path after all. We’ll wait to see how this pans out.

According to TheElecreport, the move from Ericsson and Nokia has become an opportunity for its South Korean components and materials providers that have facilities in Vietnam, as per a source close to the matter. KMW and Ace Technologies supply their goods to Nokia and Ericsson respectively and are downsizing their productions in China, and now focusing more on Vietnam.
Similarly, Samsung has also moved its Networking division from Gumi to Suwon back in 2019, and had begun mass production in the country within the same year. Notably, Many South Korean suppliers have already built a good foundation in Vietnam, as they followed the tech giant, Samsung, who had been investing heavily in the Southeast Asian country.
At the moment, Vietnam is offering cheaper labor costs in comparison to China and is more suitable for mid sized supplier firms. Ace Technologies had completed its new factory in the region back in March, which has tripled its production capacity of radio systems and antenna filter units. It is now also planning on producing over 100,000 units of 4G and 5G remote radio heads as well.

The Thai smartphone market saw a slight decline in the second quarter of 2020. In Q2, the smartphone market saw a total of 4.3 million units being shipped, which is an increase of 21.2 percent quarter on quarter, but a drop of 8.8 percent year on year.
Generally, the second quarter is known to record an increase in shipments due to the season. However, this period was hampered by the Coronavirus pandemic that caused various governments to induce local lockdowns. Various OEMs had to quickly adapt to the new situation and focus more on online channels of distribution and ran multiple promotional campaigns as well.
Since the outbreak caused the physical outlet and regular stores to shut down. Smartphone manufacturers had to take to online platforms and leverage social media for marketing along with promotions and sales. According to an IDCreport, the smartphone market will make a recovery. However, the market in Thailand will face another decline in the third quarter of 2020 due to seasonally low demands during that period alongside other economic factors.
Although, the fourth and final quarter is expected to see a bump in shipments as the new iPhones start shipping, especially considering that Apple is opening a new store in the country, which is the second in Thailand. This would also help build the Cupertino based giant’s presence in the market while making retail activities reach regular levels again.
