Earlier today (21st July 2020), the OnePlus 8 Pro Crossfire mobile game gift box went on sale in limited quantities. The new special gift box arrives just a while after the flagship device supported 120Hz refresh rate in Crossfire.

If Apple’s newly published patent application by the United States Patent and Trademark Office is to be believed, then the company is working on a new technology for the Apple Pencil that could enable the device to sample real-world colors.
The patent application from Apple is titled “Computer System With Color Sampling Stylus” and it describes a scenario where the Apple Pencil can sensor or detect real-life colors that can then be used in digital arts, drawings, edits, and more.
Apart from drawings, the color sensor can also be used for other purposes, such as calibrating displays, calibrating printers, making health-related measurements, and identifying paint colors for home projects.
As for the design, the patent describes Apple Pencil or a Stylus device having a design with an elongated body, a tip, and an opposing end, where the tip will be able to work with a touch-sensitive display. The color sensor functionality could be located at the end of the stylus, at the tip, or coupled to the tip through a light source.
The company says that the color sensor may have more than one photodetectors each of which measures light for a different respective color channel. It may also come with one or more light-emitting devices to illuminate an external object to determine the color.
Do note that most companies patent all kinds of technologies and designs even though they have no plans of launching the same commercially. Since most patents for technology don’t make it to the market, it remains to be seen if this color-sensing Apple Pencil sees the light of the day anytime soon.

For the first time ever, China-based display panel maker BOE is supplying panels to Huawei for the Chinese giant’s upcoming Mate 40 flagship series. As per the report coming from Korea-based The Elec, BOE is supplying on-cell OLED panels that have the touch sensor embedded in the panel itself.
This is a major development for BOE which seems to be closing the technology as well as the supply gap with its competitors — Samsung Display and LG Display for the OLED panels, which remains the leader in the smartphone market.
Huawei had sourced on-cell OLED panels for the P40 series smartphones from Samsung Display and LG Display. BOE had also attempted to become a vendor for the same lineup but didn’t receive any orders. Later, Huawei sourced add-on OLED panels from BOE for the P40 Pro series.
As per the report, BOE is exclusively supplying on-cell OLED panels for the Huawei Mate 40 while the company is a co-supplier for the display panels of Mate 40 Pro, along with Samsung Display and LG Display.
It won’t be surprising if the Chinese giant selects BOE as an exclusive display supplier for its upcoming smartphones, even the flagship ones. Since the US-China trade war and several sanctions on Huawei from the U.S. government, the company has been trying to reduce dependence on other countries and is sourcing components domestically.
There are two other Chinese companies that are producing on-cell OLED panels — Compatriots CSOT and Visionox. But so far, none of them have managed to win orders from Huawei.
Earlier this month, it was reported that BOE could be supplying OLED panels for the upcoming 5G iPhone 12 series models but not for the initial batches given that the company has not yet met Apple’s standard for the iPhones. But reports indicate that BOE could enter the supply chain for iPhone at a later stage.

Alongside the Asus ROG Phone 3, another gaming phone will be unveiled on July 22, and it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 865 Plus as well. We are talking about the Legion Phone, that is the first Lenovo gaming phone and it belongs to its gaming lineup Legion just like its gaming PCs. We told you a lot about the Lenovo Legion phone, it will be the perfect rival of the Asus ROG Phone 3. This phone also brings some innovation since it is designed for landscape usage. Its design will naturally be gaming-centric, and the phone will feature a side-mounted pop-up camera: a perfect solution for live streamers who want to live stream their gaming sessions. The Galaxy Note 20 series is the upcoming Samsung’s flagship series including the S Pen and it will be officially unveiled on August 5 at a Galaxy Unpacked event. The lineup is expected to be composed of three variants: Samsung Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Note 20 Plus, and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The vanilla version will feature a display with at least 6.4 inches, the Plus version is expected to come with a 6.9-inch screen, and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra should have a display with a diagonal over 7 inches. The refresh rate should go up to 120 Hz and the U.S. variants of the Galaxy Note 20 will be powered by the Snapdragon 865 Plus processor. This will not happen with the European versions which will be equipped with an Exynos chipset. There will be cameras up to 108 MP, new camera features, and new S Pen features.
The Galaxy Z Flip will be officially announced on August 5 and it will be available for pre-orders in China starting from July 22. The rest of the specifications of the foldable phone will remain the same. But there will be a new color variant: Mystic Bronze.
Samsung is rumored to unveil another foldable phone during the Galaxy Unpacked event which will be held on August 5. We are talking about the Galaxy Z Fold 2: the successor of the Galaxy Fold. It is rumored to be fueled by the Snapdragon 865 Plus mobile platform. Unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, it will not be a clamshell foldable phone becoming extremely compact while folded. It will be a smartphone that turns into a tablet, just like the original Galaxy Fold.
If you thought Asus ROG Phone 3 and Lenovo Legion Phone were the only upcoming gaming phone, you were wrong. After the Red Magic 3, Nubia is planning the launch of another gaming phone this year: the Red Magic 5S. And it will be powered by the Snapdragon 865 Plus mobile platform. According to the latest revelations, the phone will feature a 144 Hz refresh rate and a 320 Hz touch sampling rate to reduce input lag and improve the touch screen accuracy. There will also be a silver-based cooling system.
Another smartphone rumored to come with the Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC is the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro+. But we are only talking about rumors, so take everything with a pinch of salt about this device. A leak on Weibo revealed that the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro+ will sport a 120 Hz display, the main camera with a 100 MP sensor and 12x optical zoom, and the support of 65W fast charging.
Last but not least, iQOO and Realme are expected to launch their first Snapdragon 865 Plus phone in the coming months. There is still no official confirmation, but it is highly unlikely that they will not do it. And we are probably talking about the most affordable upcoming phones with Snapdragon 865 Plus inside. iQOO’s solution is expected to be called iQOO Pro 3, while Realme is expected to launch the Realme X3 Pro at IFA 2020 (the company already confirmed its presence to the show).
Rebadging is the act of relaunching a product under a new name or logo and marketing it as a distinct product from the original. While this may be common in the mobile industry, it actually happens in other industries too such as the automobile industry. It is not unusual to see a car launch under one name in one market and under another name in another market.
Lately, we have seen more phone manufacturers relaunch a phone under a different name, chief of them being POCO whose last three phones are actually rebadged Redmi phones.
So for this week’s poll, we want to know your thoughts on rebadged phones. Are you cool with it or you think manufacturers are just being crafty? Please take the poll and also let us know in the comment box below what your opinion about it.
The Realme C15 is the device that was teased last week that packs a 6000mAh battery. It has now been confirmed to launch in Indonesia on July 28 at 1 PM local time. The poster not only confirms the name but also bares it all with respect to how the phone looks.
The Realme C15 is shown to have a waterdrop notch display while the back is home to quad rear cameras housed in a squircle. The phone also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and will be available in blue and white with a triple-tone finish. The poster also reveals the phone will have support for 18W fast charging.
The rest of the specs of the phone are still unknown but we believe the full spec sheet will surface before the announcement next week.
The Realme C15 is not the only phone with a 6000mAh battery launching this month. Infinix is launching the Smart 4 Plus tomorrow in India and it packs a 6000mAh battery too.
While the OnePlus Nord has been the headline-grabbing upcoming mid-range phone, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series has dominated the upcoming flagship terrain. The Korean ain’t has already confirmed that the Galaxy Note 20 series will be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event that would be held on August 5. What has yet to be confirmed until now is the other products the company will also unveil on that day.
Samsung’s versatile head Tae-moon Roh said in a titbit that was contained in a blog entry on Monday, that the company will announce five gadgets at the Galaxy Unpacked event. “At this summer’s Galaxy Unpacked, we’ll be introducing five new powerful devices.” Going on to note that “you will be empowered to live life to the fullest with these devices in your hand (and in your ears or on your wrist)”, Roh said.
While he did not mention the names of the products, the statement confirms speculations about a new foldable phone also launching. Specifically, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Z Fold 2 alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series, Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Buds Live.
This will be the most items Samsung has ever unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked. Despite the numbers, the tablet line is missing out on the launch event which is quite rare. Usually, the Galaxy Tab and Watch are released at the same time. That won’t happen this time around.
Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 inner screen render
Also, it’s is the first Unpacked event that Samsung will be holding after the lockdown and also the first to be held virtually.
Apart from being India’s largest smartphone company, Xiaomi also leads the smart TV segment in the region. The infamous Mi TV 4 55 without Android TV update was the first television launched by the firm in the country in early 2018. Since then, the brand has introduced a number of models over the course of more than two years. Now, it seems the company is all set to launch further new models as it has sent out a new “TV Survey”.
Xiaomi is known for its Mi Community forum, the Indian version of which was banned by the government recently. The company has a habit of sending out surveys and feedback forms every now and then via its forum and Telegram groups.
Normally, Xiaomi shares survey forms before launching a new product in the country to understand what people look for. Recently, it sent out a “TV Survey” indicating the launch of new smart TV models in India.
To recall, the Chinese smartphone maker shared a similar survey last year around the same time. Then, on September 17, it held a launch event called “Smarter Living” at which the company announced new smart TV models, support for Netlflix, Mi Smart Band 4, a smart water purifier, and more.
Just last week, the company held the “Xiaomi Ecosystem Product Launch” for Europe where it unveiled a wide variety of products. We expect the company to host a similar event for India in either August or September to unveil new smart TV models, Mi Smart Band 5, and others.
OnePlus is finally set to officially unveil the Nord smartphone tomorrow (July 21) at an AR event. The Nord has been one of the most talked-about unreleased smartphones in the past few weeks. That is because leaks about the Nord smartphone has been hitting ferociously unending. OnePlus also helped fuel the frenzy surrounding the device with the rate at which it released teasers ( both videos and posters). The pre-order exercise for the smartphone with all its perks also helped fuel the discussions surrounding the smartphone.
Another vista will be opened up tomorrow when the company finally takes the wraps off the smartphone before the full glare of millions of fans and enthusiasts in an online event. You too can watch the event live and here is how.
The OnePlus Nord AR launch event will commence at 7 am Pacific time (10 am Eastern Time, 3 pm GMT, 4 pm CET and 7:30 pm IST on July 21.
Sadly, you can’t watch the event on YouTube or any of the streaming apps around. Instead, OnePlus will broadcast the event on its Nord Augmented Reality (AR) app.
To watch the event, you will need to download the “OnePlus Nord AR” app from the App Store for iPhone users and Google Play Store for Android users. While installing the app, grant it all three permissions it requests for. You’ll then need to set an avatar even though that isn’t compulsory. Next, you will need to move your phone around a flat surface in the room in order to complete the AR setup. Apparently, the event will take place there when the time comes.
When the setup is complete, you’ll then need to open the app at the scheduled launch time and watch the device’s launch right in your environment.
Huawei‘s Consumer Business Software Department president Dr Wang Chenglu earlier this month confirmed that the EMUI 11 will launch in the third quarter of 2020. However, the exec left off without revealing specific features we should look forward to having onboard the next-gen custom ROM. Dr Wang only hinted that EMUI 11 will be based on Distributed technology which would bring improvement to the app performance and user experience.
Huawei Central has published more details of the new Distributed technology which Huawei is expected to unveil with the upcoming custom ROM. The technology will bring smart features and connectivity to apps. The features will also form part of Huawei’s All Scenario experience.
Distributed technology allows users to conduct HD video calls among multiple devices. Users can make audio and video calls whenever and wherever they are. If there is an incoming call, users can choose to answer using a smart speaker.
Or if it is a video call, they can answer through a TV, vehicle-mounted device, or even send a real-time video feed from a drone so that friends and family can also enjoy the beautiful scenery.
At work, a smartphone and computer can share screens so that data can be exchanged easily through drag-and-drop.
The main purpose of distributed technology is to utilize the hardware capabilities such as display, camera, microphone, or speaker of each device. Then allowing users to use these capabilities across different devices providing seamless connectivity.
In addition, Huawei Central says the new EMUI 11 will be based on Android 11 and not HarmonyOS since the company is putting huge efforts in growing its Google Mobile Service alternative – Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) ecosystem. However, there may likely be some HarmonyOS inherited features on the new ROM.
Huawei is expected to take the wraps off the new OS at the Huawei Developer Conference 2020 (HDC 2020) coming up in August or September. The company is also expected to unveil a new version of HarmonyOS for more platforms.
