Elephone PX Pro model surfacing soon with improved features

Elephone always keep stunning the fans by introducing new smartphones and other useful gadgets. This time also the company is preparing to launch a new smartphone named Elephone PX Pro. It will be the successor to Elephone PX which was launched late last year featuring mid-range specifications with a pop-up selfie camera and full view display. The new device will be launched on the same lines featuring upgraded hardware.

Must See: Elephone weekly deals offer massive discounts via the official store

The design of the new smartphone looks like the Elephone PX along with a pop-up selfie camera. The full view display with a 19:9 aspect ratio is present on the front for immersive gaming and movie-watching experience. There’s a no big change on the front side of the smartphone, it fully resembles with Elephone PX.

Elephone PX Pro looks refreshed on the rear side, as it features some changes in regard to its predecessor. Apart from the horizontal dual cameras, and an LED flash, we can see changed shape and placement of the fingerprint scanner. The new placement looks far better than the old one, and we hope it would be more accessible in real-time. The gradient color finish gives it a premium look.

The volume rocker and the power button sits on the right side of the smartphone.

In terms of specifications, we expect an upgrade to the battery life as the original version carries 3300 mAh battery which looks moderate in today’s world. Elephone might even replace the MediaTek Helio 23 chipset and its dual rear camera, but the chances are quite low.

More information about the device will go live in the next few weeks. The company will update its official website with the specs information for Elelphone PX Pro.

Vivo handing over its Z and U series to iQOO; iQOO U1 coming soon

A leak has revealed details about a business restructuring going on at Vivo. The Chinese phone manufacturer is one of the companies owned by BBK Electronics and seems to be making changes to its business model.

According to Weibo user and blogger @Really Assen, Vivo will be handing over its online business to iQOO. He added that Vivo has transferred its Z-series and U-series of smartphones to iQOO while it will focus on its offline series.

The post even says the upcoming iQOO Z1 was originally supposed to launch as the Vivo Z7, further confirming that Vivo may have indeed handed over the series to iQOO.

Another info revealed in the post is that iQOO will launch its first U-series phone and it will arrive as the iQOO U1. This will come after renaming the current Vivo U-series to iQOO U-series next month.

A follow-up post by the same leaker included a screenshot of the Vivo U3x (a.k.a. Vivo U10) which showed the phone has now been renamed Vivo iQOO U3x. The caption for the post said iQOO will announce a new phone under the U-series with a price range between ¥1500 (~$211) and ¥2000 (~$282).

Vivo is yet to put out an official statement regarding this and we honestly can’t say if there will be one. However, time will tell if the above is true

Honor MagicBook Pro 2020 now on Reservation on Jingdong

Honor is expected to launch the MagicBook 2020 notebook models along with other products on May 18. Ahead of the official launch, popular e-tailer Jingdong (JD,com) has put up the Honor MagicBook 2020 for reservation.

Usually, the MagicBook models are usually made available in different display sizes. But the listing gives the model as having a 16.1-inch screen size. This definitely is the largest of the pack. Another interesting aspect is the laptop is available in a Core i5 and Core i7 versions only. Since the previous model uses the 8th Intel chipset, we expect the processors to be the 10th generation Intel Core processors. An AMD Ryzen version is conspicuously missing on the Jingdong page. But that doesn’t rule out the possibility of Honor announcing some models with the latest Ryzen processors on May 18.

Both the Core i5 and i7 versions will have 16GB RAM ad 512GB internal storages. There may likely be lower storage and RAM options.Honor MagicBook 2020

In terms of the build, the Honor MagicBook 2020 still retains the aluminium body structure of previous versions which means it will be lightweight. However, the 16.1-inch display size makes it impossible to call this a portable laptop. However, like the 2019 models, there may likely be 14-inch and 15-inch versions.

Oppo Reno 4 alleged live image leak reveals a bizarre design

Oppo Reno 3 series with 5G connectivity was launched in late December in China. The series consists of two phones primarily- Reno 3 5G and Reno 3 Pro 5G. Another handset called Reno 3 Vitality Edition was launched later in February.

But none of them made outside China as the global variants were completely different devices with the same branding. That said, the company now seems to be gearing up to release Reno 4 whose alleged live image has been reshared by multiple users on Weibo.

Oppo Reno 4 Live Image Leak

We are not sure of the original source of the purported Oppo Reno 4 live image leak. But the only picture we could find without any watermark is by a well-known Chinese tipster called Ice Universe who is also active on Twitter.

Looking at the image, we can notice the handset to feature a quad-camera setup. The first three sensors are arranged vertically on the top left corner of the phone’s back, whereas the fourth unit sits adjacent to the third camera. There’s also an LED flash to the side of the first sensor from the top.

As far as the sensors are concerned, the first three could be primary, ultra-wide, and telephoto. The last one placed to the side of the array could be a ToF, macro or depth sensor.

These large-sized sensors look so weird. Further, the design somewhat mimics that of LG Velvet whose cameras (different sizes) imitate water droplets. As a whole, this alleged live image of Reno 4 shows us a handset with a bizarre rear design.

Having said that, we feel there is a possibility of this live image to be fake. If you look back at the product launches of BBK Electronics, the parent company of Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Relame, and iQOO has never launched a device with ‘4’ attached to its name since it is considered a bad omen in China.

Hence, we would like you to take this purported live image of Reno 4 with a pinch of salt.

Meizu 17 series to get 120Hz refresh rate via OTA

The Meizu 17 series launched last week in China. The two phones which are the Meizu 17 and the Meizu 17 Pro are Meizu’s first phones to come with a 90Hz refresh rate, a feature that has become increasingly popular in phones. Today, Meizu revealed that its flagships support a higher refresh rate.

According to a Weibo post made by Meizu, the Meizu 17 series will get a 120Hz refresh rate mode via an OTA upgrade! The higher refresh rate will further improve the smooth 90Hz refresh rate user experience.

Meizu 17 series 120Hz refresh rate mode

The Meizu 17 and Meizu 17 Pro both have a 6.6-inch AMOLED display custom-made by Samsung. The screens have a punch-hole at the top right corner and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. There is also a fingerprint scanner buried under the display.

Inside the two phones is a Snapdragon 865 processor with 8GB of RAM in the standard version and 12GB of RAM in the Pro model. Both phones are available in 128GB and 256GB variants.

Meizu has equipped both phones with a quad rear camera setup but with different configurations. The Meizu 17 has a 64MP + 8MP ultrawide + 12MP portrait camera + 5MP macro camera setup while the Meizu 17 Pro’s setup consists of a 64MP + 8MP telephoto + 32MP ultrawide + 3D depth-sensing camera. Both phones have a 20MP selfie camera.

You also get a 4500mAh battery inside the two phones with support for 30W wired fast charging. However, the Pro model also has support for 27W wireless charging.

The two phones went on sale today and are already sold out.

Samsung is rumored to be working on a more affordable Galaxy Fold alongside two other foldable phones

Back in 2019, the smartphone industry had caught on to a new trend through technological advancements. This trend was for smartphones with a foldable display, with Samsung being one of the first to release such handset. However, these devices with a bendable display weren’t affordable for most consumers but it seems Samsung is looking to change this.

According to a new report, the South Korean tech giant is planning on releasing three new foldable smartphones. In this lineup, one is said to feature Galaxy Z Flip‘s UTG (ultra thing foldable glass), while the other two models are expected to arrive with plastic panels, similar to Samsung Galaxy Fold. Unfortunately, this news is currently unconfirmed, so take it with a grain of salt for now.

Apparently, the new foldable Samsung smartphone may be called Galaxy Fold e, or even Galaxy Fold Lite, and will be priced around 1,100 or 900 US Dollars. Again, there is no confirmation regarding this information, but more details should arrive in the coming few weeks. So stay tuned.

Xiaomi rumored to be working on two smartphones with a 120Hz curved display, could be the Mi MIX 4

Earlier today (11th May 2020), a new leak suggested that the Chinese tech giant, Xiaomi, is working on two new smartphones which feature a 120Hz curved display. The news first broke out by Digital Chat Station (@数码 闲聊 站) on Weibo, the popular Chinese microblogging website.

Xiaomi

According to the post that shared the leak, Xiaomi is currently working on two new flagship smartphones. These are codenamed as Apollo and Verthandi, which are names based on mythical characters. The handsets in question are expected to sport a 120Hz refresh rate on a curved edge display and reports suggest that it might be te Mi MIX 4.

It is currently unknown if both devices are from the Mi MIX 4 series or if just one of them will be the Mi MIX 4. Furthermore, the company has yet to officially give out any announcement for the same. Notably, Lei Jun, the CEO and Chairman of Xiaomi Group, had previously teased a new high end flagship handset during the Mi 10 Youth Edition launch conference.

So, it could be in some manner related to either of the two rumored smartphones. The Mi MIX Alpha concept smartphone was a marvel of innovation and technology, which was revealed quite some time ago. The device never saw a commercial release, but reports have suggested that Xiaomi will launch the device with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. Meaning, the Mi MIX Alpha commercial variant could also be a possibility.

Official: Honor X10 will have 9 5G bands

Honor will be launching the Honor X10 on May 20. Ahead of it, the brand has started teasing the features as expected. A teaser posted on Weibo earlier today confirms the Honor X10 to come with 9 5G bands. When it will launch, it will be the cheapest smartphone with such a characteristic.

Honor X10 9 5G Bands

Honor X10 is expected to be the most affordable 5G smartphone from Huawei. Almost all of the specifications of the handset are out, thanks to the Chinese certification agency TENAA and leakers. Additionally, even the brand’s president George Zhao has teased some of the specs.

But now, Honor’s official Weibo account has started posting teasers, which we believe will continue till the day of the launch. The first set of teasers did not reveal much about the handset.

However, today’s teaser disclosed the Honor 10X to feature 9 5G bands, which is about double the bands seen on standard 5G-enabled smartphones.

According to the teaser poster, the upcoming Honor 10X will come with the following 5G bands.

  • N1
  • N3
  • N38
  • N41
  • N77
  • N78
  • N79
  • N80
  • N84

Honor calls this device as a ‘universal key’ to 5G world. It will work on all the three carriers in China as well as on at least one carrier in most countries with 5G infrastructure.

We expect the brand to spill more info about the Honor X10 confirming the already known specs such as Kirin 820, graphene cooling system, 6.63-inch FHD+ IPS LCD panel, pop-up camera, Sony IMX600 RYB sensor, 4,200 mAh battery, 22.5W fast charging, and more.

Apple looking to shift a fifth of its production from China to India: Report

A fresh report has suggested that Apple might be looking to strengthen its base in India, especially with its manufacturing side. Apparently, several meetings have taken place with top executives from the Cupertino based giant and the local government officials, which have discussed the possibility of shifting production capacity from China to India.

Recently, Apple has been concentrating efforts on offloading production sites from China to other regions like Vietnam and India. The new report reveals that the company is now looking into shifting a fifth of the production capacity from China to India. This will scale up its local manufacturing revenues and could have Apple shell out nearly 5 billion US Dollars over the course of the next 5 years, through its known contract manufacturers (Wistron and Foxconn).

Apple
Foxconn, a known brand that Apple contracts for its iPhone production

The implications of this sizeable shift in the manufacturing line are huge, with India soon becoming an exported of the iPhone series and, by its extension, India’s largest exporter as well. According to a government official, “We expect Apple to $40 billion worth of smartphones, mostly for exports through its contract manufacturers Wistron and Foxconn, availing the benefits under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.”

Unfortunately, Apple has yet to give out any official statements regarding this big move. Although, sources close to the tech giant’s plans have claimed that there were some issues in the government’s “ambitious” PLI scheme. These are basically incentives provided by the government to attract local based smartphone production by foreign brands, which directly boosts exports.

Apple
Via The Economic Times

Apple has shown interest in expanding in the Southeast Asian region, especially in India in recent years. While the company sells 1.5 billion US Dollars worth of smartphone in India, only a third is actually from locally made manufacturing plants. The move to grow and diversify its lineup and handset capacity could see lowered pricing in the near future and a jump in sales in the country, where Apple has historically faced issues in.

Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition launched, Features Snapdragon 768G

Earlier today (11th May 2020), Xiaomi launched a new model under its popular Redmi K30 lineup. The new device is the Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition, which features Qualcomm’s newly launched Snapdragon 768G and is priced at 1,999 Yuan (roughly 282 US Dollars).

Redmi

The Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition is the first smartphone in the world to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G. The processor is currently the most powerful mid range chip from Qualcomm and is an overclocked version of the SD765G. The processor is built on a 7nm EUV process and is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition features a 6.67 inch 120Hz display with a dual punch hole selfie camera on the front with an aspect ratio of 20:9. Its primary sensor is a 64 megapixel shooter alongside wide angle lens, super macro camera, and a depth of field camera while the front has a 20 megapixel sensor alongside another depth of field camera for selfies.

Redmi

The device will be available in four colors, including Mint Ice Blue, which is a new color in the series, along with the original color variants that were available for the base Redmi K30 5G variants. Furthermore, it is powered by a large 4,500mAh battery that also supports up to 30W fast charging. In terms of connectivity, the device supports dual band 5G, NFC, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an infrared remote control, Type-C port, and more. So for those interested, the device will go on sale on 14th May 2020 in China.

Qualcomm launches the Snapdragon 768G, an overclocked version of the SD765G

In recent years, gaming smartphones have become increasingly more popular. To keep up with the moniker, chipmakers like Qualcomm and MediaTek have also started offering technology (chipsets) catering to this particular category. Now, Qualcomm has just unveiled its new Snapdragon 768G processor, which is an overclocked version of an existing mid range mobile processor.

While many OEMs tend to add features specifically to improve gameplay, more vendors are now opting for smartphones with faster chipsets than regular ones in their category. Examples of this can be seen in the flagship level, as in the case of SD855 and SD855+, or even mid range, like with the current launch of SD768G after the SD765G.

Qualcomm

The Snapdragon 768G brings various improvements to the table over its predecessors. The chipset now boasts a higher boost clock on its Prime Core from 2.4GHz to 2.8GHz. This arrives alongside the boosted Adreno 620 GPU, which is said to have up to 15 percent better performance. Notably, these improvement margins are similar to the 20 percent performance bump the older SD765G saw over its base SD765 variant.

Furthermore, like its predecessors, the Snapdragon 768G also features an integrated 5G modem, Qualcomm’s 5th generation AI engine, and Qualcomm’s Elite Gaming features as well. The first smartphone that will feature this processor will be Xiaomi’s Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition, which will take advantage of the 5G networking, high refresh rate, and 64 megapixel support.

Snapdragon 765G featured
Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G

At the moment, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G will be placed directly under its flagship SD800 series and will be the top offering in its mid range chipset segment. Being a mid range processor, it will likely be more affordable for many, especially with its attractive 5G enabled capabilities and improvements in battery life. So stay tuned, as there are likely to be more smartphones that will launch with the new processor.

Xiaomi showcases 50x zooming capability of Mi 10 Youth Edition in a video

Late last month, Xiaomi launched Mi 10 Youth Edition in China. This smartphone, albeit being a mid-ranger features 5x periscope camera with support for up to 50x digital zoom. Recently, Lei Jun, the co-founder and CEO of Xiaomi shared a video showcasing the zooming capability of this handset.

In the video, a Mi 10 Youth Edition mounted on a tripod zooms in 50x times digitally to click a picture of Ping’an International Financial Center building. According to the caption of the Weibo post, the picture was captured from Shenzhen Bay Park, which is 10 kilometres away from the building.

One might say, that’s an impressive feat but actually, it is not. We can clearly see a ton of noise in the viewfinder. Also, the video does not show us the final output as it will definitely have noises even after post-processing.

Anyway, this is the case with all the smartphones with a periscope camera when they are zoomed at their maximum level. However, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition beats other phones with a similar camera with its price. Retailing at 2099 Yuan ($296), it is the cheapest phone in the world with a periscope camera.

The 5G-ready mid-range smartphone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G sports a quad-camera camera setup.

  • 48MP primary camera
  • 8MP 120° ultra-wide-angle camera
  • 8MP 5x optical periscope camera, 10x hybrid zoom, 50x digital zoom
  • 2MP macro camera

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition is definitely a value for money smartphone for its asking price. Sadly, the international price does not reflect the same magic.

Redmi Note 9 Pro MAX launch date announced, will start sale on May 12

Xiaomi has just announced the launch date for the Redmi Note 9 Pro MAX. The smartphone will go on sale for the first time tomorrow (12th May 2020) in India and will be available through a flash sale.

For those unaware, the Chinese tech giant has announced the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max back in March 2020. While the former was made available for purchase from March 17th, the latter had its release delayed. The reason for this was the nationwide mandatory lockdown that the Indian government had imposed, which caused various launches to also be postponed.

Now, with the government planning on relaxing the lockdown in various areas, Xiaomi has finally unveiled the launch date for the Redmi Note 9 Pro MAX. The smartphone will start sale on 12th May 2020, starting from 12 pm IST (Indian Standard Time). It will be a part of a flash sale and will be available through various online vendors. This includes its own official Mi.com website alongside the popular e-retailer, Amazon India.

Those interested in buying the device should keep in mind that the device will only be available for purchase in areas that fall under either green or orange zones. In other words, it will be delivered in regions that are scarcely affected or have no active case of the Coronavirus infection. Furthermore, these regions will now allow various companies to now deliver non-essential items. Unfortunately, Red zones are only restricted to essential goods so, the Redmi Note 9 Pro MAX will also not be available in these regions.

Redmi

Lastly, the highest end model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will sell for 19,999 INR (roughy $264).

MIUI Camera adds gestures to access additional options and modes

Xiaomi revamped MIUI Camera app with the launch of MIUI 12 last month. In fact, it is the first time the app has received a facelift in years. With every weekly beta release of MIUI 12, the MIUI Camera app has been receiving new features so far. The latest update adds gestures to access additional options and modes.

The MIUI Camera app has a ton of options and modes that cannot be displayed on a single screen. Only last week, the head of Xiaomi Camera revealed the redesigned icons for them. Now, today, she announced two different gestures to access them easily as they are hidden in the main screen due to space constraint.

The first gesture allows users to access additional options and modes by swiping left from right. This is similar to what we find on Google Camera app. The second gesture, on the other hand, lets users swipe from bottom to top to access them.

If you ask me, the swiping from bottom feels natural and easy since smartphones released by Xioami or any other company for that matter are now huge and are hard to reach both sides and top.

That said, these gestures are already live on most Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones, which are currently running MUI 12 Beta.

Honor’s three new routers listed on Tmall; to launch on May 18 in China

After Huawei launched its high-tech routers in March this year, it’s sub-brand is now all set to launch similar products in its home market later this month. However, ahead of the launch, three new routers from the company have surfaced online.

Honor’s official Tmall has listed three new routers from the company, which will get launched on 18th May, the same day when the company has scheduled its Honor Smart Life event for launching multiple products.

Honor X3 Router Tmall Listing

The three routers from the company that have been listed include Honor X3, Honor X3 Pro, and Honor Wi-Fi 6+. However, there’s nothing known about these products and the listing has a placeholder pricing.

From the image shared by the company’s president, it seems that Honor could also launch a new Honor Smart Screen as well as a tablet at the same launch event. But we are yet to get any confirmation regarding this.

It’ll be interesting to see what products the company has up its sleeves for the 18th May launch event. Just a couple of days after the Honor Smart Life event for smart connected devices, the company will be launching Honor X10 5G smartphone on 20th May.

A few weeks ago, Huawei had launched two new routers – the Huawei AX3 and AX3 Pro – both of which are claimed to be the world’s first Wi-Fi 6+ routers. The company is touting high speed gains and better coverage with its new lineup of Huawei AX3 series routers. Along with that, the company also launched the 5G CPE Pro 2 router that supports dual-mode 5G (NSA + SA) connectivity.

Japan seeks to attract semiconductor giants like TSMC and Intel

A new report has suggested that Japan is planning on attracting known semiconductor makers, TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) and Intel. The government is expected to start an investigation to look into future prospects to bring the major chipmakers to their country.

This endeavor is being undertaken by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry. The move from the Japanese government arrives after the effects of the coronavirus have become more apparent. Recently, many economies, especially in the west, are prioritizing foreign capitalized takeovers to provide a safeguard for local companies. Thus, Japan seeks to do the same by launching a foreign investment attraction project.

Intel

To explain in simpler terms, the government aim to bring back Japan based multinational corporations back to its country and then attract foreign investor through these large scale firms. One such example is Canon, which is a known Japanese MNC that deals in imaging and optical products like cameras and more. At the moment, there are rumors that indicate that Canon will be withdrawing from China.

While various Chinese publications have sought out a response from Canon regarding the report, the company has yet to respond to such claims. Back in April 2020, the Domestic investment promotion project subsidy for supply chain measures was established with 220 Billion Yen (roughly 2 Billion US Dollars). This new budget was established in the wake of the viral outbreak to act as an emergency fund during the economic crisis.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the budget will be responsible for rebuilding the domestic supply chains that have since become vulnerable due to COVID-19. In other words, facilitate rehabilitation to bring Japanese based companies and their production back to the country and, by its extension, increase the foreign investment as well. This move will essentially “remove China from the supply chain.”
