There is a new Moto 360 smartwatch not made by Motorola

The Moto 360 was one of the earliest smartwatches. It launched in 2014 with a circular dial and was praised for its design though it did get flak for its infamous “flat tire” display. The following year, Motorola followed it up with a 2nd gen model and a sports model. Four years later, we are getting a third-gen Moto 360 but one not made by Motorola.

New Moto 360

The new Moto 360 is made by a relatively unknown company called eBuyNow eCommerce Ltd and they are the new licensee for the Moto 360 name. While they have mainly stuck to the same design such as a circular dial and a stainless steel frame, there have also been some key changes.

The flat tire display is gone but you have a black bezel around the dial. There is also an extra button at 4 o’clock to keep the crown with its laser-engraved Motorola batwing logo at 2 o’clock company.

The Moto 360 has a 1.2-inch always-on “fully circular“ AMOLED display with a 390 x 390 resolution and 327 ppi. It is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and enclosed in brushed SUS316 stainless steel with PVD/DLC coating. With the ambient mode, you don’t have to tilt or press a button to check the time.

New Moto 360

There is a Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip inside the watch along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The watch runs WearOS and connects via Bluetooth 4.2. It also has WiFi, NFC, GPS, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, and a barometer. The product page also mentions it is 3ATM water-resistant.

The new Moto 360 has a 335mAh battery with support for Quick Charge which allows you to charge the watch from empty to full in 60 minutes. It has a Battery Saver Mode that will automatically activate when the battery level is critical. In this mode, the watch will continue to show the time for up to 3 days.

The watch uses a 20mm strap and it will ship with leather and silicon straps, so you can swap when you want to take it for a swim. The watch is available in three colors – Steel Gray, Rose Gold, and Phantom Black. It will be available for pre-order in the US, Canada, and the UK mid-November and will go on sale in December for $350/£340.

Huawei Mate 30 series Europe launch reportedly set for mid-November

Even before the flagship Mate 30 series was unveiled in China, Huawei had first taken the wraps off the models at an elaborate event held in Munich, Germany in September. The pricing for the models was even revealed to start at 799 Euro. However, hopes of the models getting released in Europe were dashed when Google officially announced that newer Huawei models can no longer come pre-installed with Google Services. Coupled with the fact that Huawei didn’t announce a release itinerary for the models, there were speculations that the tech giant may have put off the European release.

In a new twist posted by Tech Garage, the blog quotes sources based in China and conversant with the runnings at the company to have hinted that the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro would be launched in Europe starting Mid-November, possibly on November 15th. The sources didn’t disclose the exact countries where the model will first be released but hinted that the schedule would follow the pattern Huawei had always employed in the past, that is countries like Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Great Britain and Switzerland may be among the first to see the device on store shelves.

Huawei Mate 30 proSince the Mate 30 series launch in Europe in September, Huawei has not only launched the models in China but has also launched the much-anticipated Mate X 5G foldable phone. We don’t know if the Mate X will equally be announced during the speculated November event. With the absence of Google Services, we are not too sure how the Mate 30 series will perform in the European market. What the device lacks in official Google Services, it makes up for those in powerful hardware and sleek design. There are a few workaround that allows users to install Google Services in the device, though, but some may not find that a good thing to do for such expensive phones.

Essential files patent application for under-display camera

Next year may be the year of the under-display camera seeing as manufacturers have tried all the other possible designs such as pop-up, notch, punch-hole, and flip. OPPO and Xiaomi already showed us working prototypes a few months ago. Now a patent suggests Essential may be joining the list.

The American company has filed a patent at the United States Patent and Trademark Office titled Optical Sensors Disposed Beneath The Display Of An Electronic Device. This new patent for the under-display camera technology confirms the drawings that surfaced on the web back in February that the Essential PH-2 may have its selfie camera under the screen.

The patent was published on October 17 and it states that the upper portion of the display will have a variable transparency area. This should be for the camera and should be active when the camera needs to be used. We don’t know how Essential intends to pull it off but it sounds interesting.

There are speculations that the in-display camera tech may show up in the long-awaited successor to the Essential PH-1. However, Essential is focused on another device for the time being and this one has a punch-hole display for the front-facing camera.

Samsung is already rolling out the November 2019 security patch to the Galaxy S10 series

In a surprising move, Samsung is rolling out a new update for the Galaxy S10 series in Switzerland with the November 2019 security patch. It’s not often that you see a company bundle a future security patch in their current update, so this is definitely weird. But what even more weird is that the October 2019 security patch for the S10 series was just rolled out a week back in the same region.

First reported by SamMobile, the G97*FXXU3ASJG update for the Galaxy S10 models is currently limited to Switzerland. So it’s possible that Samsung decides to directly release the November update for S10 models in other regions. At present, we don’t have an official changelog for this November update, but it’s possible that it just brings the new security patch to the devices.

Recently, Samsung rolled out yet another important update for the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 devices which fixed a major security bug with its fingerprint sensors. The flaw allowed the Galaxy S10 to be unlocked by an unregistered fingerprint when a sub-standard screen protector was installed on the screen.

REalme Ayushmann Khurana XT promo

Alongside the latest security patch, the update also brings system-wide Dark Mode and Wide-Angle video shooting to the Realme XT. If you recall, recently, the Realme 5 Pro was also updated with these two features. Apart from these, the update brings camera features such as improved zoom, low-light optimizations, better white balance, and camera noise control.

Most Realme XT users should already have received the update, but for those who didn’t, you can manually flash it by downloading the ROM from here. Note that it’s a big file measuring over 2.87GB, so make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network before downloading it.

Huawei Mate 30 series pre-orders kick off in the Philippines, Bundles Free Accessories

The Huawei Mate 30 series is now up for pre-order in yet another market: Philippines.  Both the models are available for pre-order, with 8GB RAM + 128GB Mate 30 variant priced at PHP 34990 (~$685) and the 8GB RAM + 256GB ROM Mate 30 Pro priced at PHP 50,990 (~$999).

Huawei Mate 30 preorder philippines

If you were planning to purchase the new Mate 30 devices, this pre-order period would be a really good time to get it. Huawei is throwing in the SuperCharge Wireless Charger and the SuperCharge Wireless Car Charger with your pre-orders for free. Both clubbed together are worth PHP 5580, nearly $109. Note that only the 4G variants of the Mate 30 series are available in the Philippines.

This launch in the Philippines comes after Huawei launched the Mate 30 series in Singapore (invite-only) and Malaysia. So it looks like the company is initially focused on selling its devices in the South Asian market, with a gradual release in the other regions. A recent report reveals that the European Mate 30 series release could happen around mid-November. But unfortunately, we can’t confirm the information.

The Huawei Mate 30 series is selling really well in China. The 5G variants of both the models also went up for sale recently. Alongside the 5G variants, Huawei also released its first foldable, the Huawei Mate X 5G with availability starting from November 15 in China.

Sharp is Developing a wide variety of Foldable Smartphones

Last week, Gizmochina reported that Sharp is working on a couple of tablet-like game consoles with magnetically attachable physical controls. Now, the company has patented a wide variety of foldable smartphones which once launched would take on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, Huawei Mate X and Royole Flexpai. The patent set includes five different devices, each of which, at least has one distinguishing feature.

The first device in the list has a clamshell design with negligible bezels. Dissimilar to the foldable smartphone that Sharp showcased earlier this year, this device lacks any obstruction causing notch which will provide for an immersive viewing experience. The hinge on the smartphone is present right in the middle which will allow it to shrink into a considerably smaller package. While the device lacks any camera sensors, it is expected to undergo some design changes ahead of its launch.

The second device looks very similar to the first one, however, it features a wide notch up top that accommodates the earpiece receiver. Unfortunately, the patent is not thoroughly detailed, therefore, it is hard to divulge whether the notch will be present on the front or rear side of such a smartphone.

The third device is clearly the most distinctive out of the bunch. It features a wide slot to insert a debit/credit card, accordingly, this handset could double up as a payment terminal. Even though this illustration seems similar to the first one accrediting to an edge-to-edge display, it is not the case. Unlike the first device, this one could fold both ways i.e inside and outside.

At number four is a device that looks like a combination of a fitness band and smartphone. Due to its form factor, the user would be able to strap it around their wrist which seems to have a similar approach to previously launched Nubia Alpha. Besides, like the number two device, this handset also has a wide earpiece receiver up top. Going by the illustrations, the width of the band seems quite thick and Sharp will have to chisel some of its thickness before such a device could turn into a reality.

Lastly, Sharp has patented two other foldable smartphones that seem to have a focus on gaming. Both of the said devices look identical with a hinge that allows them to be folded into half. The first device has square corners, in contrast, the second one has rounded. The device looks identical to a Sony PSP or similar game consoles with a landscape display that is flanked by controls on either side. But, in this case, the controls are on-screen rather than physical buttons.

To wrap things up, Sharp with the investment it has received from Foxconn seems to be working towards diversifying its portfolio of products, beyond manufacturing display panels for TVs and Smartphones. Having said that, we cannot predict if any of these devices will see the light of the day or not. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope Sharp brings at least one of these devices to life.

Inside the Smartisan phone, you will find Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855+ processor 128GB of storage and 8GB RAM. There are four cameras on the back of the phone. The primary camera is a 48MP f/1.75 sensor and it is paired with a 13MP ultrawide angle camera, an 8MP telephoto camera, and a 5MP macro camera.

The Smartisan Nut Pro 3 will pack a 4000mAh battery with support for 9V/2A and 5V/3A fast charging. There is no support for wireless charging, no audio jack, and no NFC. Its weight is 185 grams and its thickness is revealed to be 7.8 millimeters. While there is no mention of the version of Android it is running, we are not banking on Android 10 out of the box.

Mijia releases its own Xiaomi Watch press render

We already know what the Xiaomi Watch looks like thanks to an official render released by the company’s CEO, Lei Jun and also a live photo that leaked afterward. A new official render has now surfaced and it was posted on Weibo by the official Mijia account.

The render shows us the Xiaomi Watch in the two colors it will be available in – Elegant Black and Plated Silver. We also get a clear look at the crown, the side/power button, the microphones (primary and noise-canceling), and the slit for the speaker. We are not sure but we have a feeling the watch’s case is made of aluminum to keep the price down. However, we won’t be surprised if there is a ceramic version as Xiaomi isn’t new to using ceramic.

Xiaomi Watch render

Unlike the render leaked by Lei Jun which showed just the lockscreen, this new render shows two new watch faces. The watch face on the silver version shows the watch will be able to track cycling and also measure your heart rate while the watch face on the black version show the calories burnt.

There is a lot we already know about the Xiaomi Watch such as it being powered by a Snapdragon 3100 processor, having an eSIM, NFC, GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth. However, there are other details we do not know if the rumors about it running a custom version of WearOS is true. It will also be nice to know how much it will cost and if it will be available outside China.

Xiaomi’s upcoming smartwatch to feature Snapdragon 3100 chipset confirms teaser

Earlier this week, Xiaomi confirmed that it will launch the Mi CC9 Pro and its very first Wear OS-powered smartwatch on the 5th of November. While the company had previously revealed some of its key features, details about its chipset were unavailable until now. According to a freshly shared teaser on Weibo, the device will be equipped with Snapdragon 3100 SoC which is designed and developed by the American chipmaker, Qualcomm.

According to the product page on the company’s website, the Snapdragon Wear 3100 consists of a 4x ARM Cortex A7, 32 bit Quad-core CPU which is clocked at 1.2 GHz and Adreno 304 GPU.

While Xiaomi had already confirmed its smartwatch will support NFC, the chipset’s spec sheet reveals it is equipped with Bluetooth 4.2 and low power 802.11n Wi-Fi and GPS which are destined to make their way on the upcoming wearable.

To recall its previously confirmed features, the Xiaomi smartwatch will have eSIM card support, loudspeaker, a large battery and a linear motor for providing haptic feedback. All in all, the device seems like a worthy entrant in the smart wearable market and if Xiaomi manages to offer it’s at an aggressive price, it could become one of the best selling wearables like the Mi Band 4.
