Meizu 17 render leaks revealing even slimmer bezels than the Meizu 16s Pro’s

Meizu‘s president Jack Wang has been an ardent apostle of smartphones having symmetrical designs on smartphones. That is the reason why despite the notch design trend which has been deployed to trim down the bezels and deliver full-screen designs by OEMs, Meizu has stayed off using the design. Whether the decision not to join the design trend is for the best interest of the company or not is a debate for another day. What interests us now is speculation that the Chinese company may continue its perfectly symmetrical design on the Meizu 17. A leaked render said to be of the Meizu 17 points in this direction. Meizu 17

The render shows the Meizu 17 will retain the slim bezels used on the Meizu 16 series. Just that this time around, the top and bottom bezels will be trimmed down further to almost the same size as the side bezels. This means we’ll be seeing a higher screen ratio on the 17. The screen will also be curved slightly at the sides.

The Meizu 17 will retain the micro-slot earpiece design on the Meizu 16 series. Also, of interest is the front camera which still finds its way into the slim bezel at the top edge, tucked into the upper right corner. Since the available space is quite small, Meizu would need to use a sensor with a smaller size. At present, the only sensor that fits the description is Samsung’s new 43.7MP  ISOCELL slim GH1 image sensor which has a single pixel size of only 0.7μm.

In addition, according to the previous leaks, Meizu 17 will likely come with a triple rear camera setup. The main camera is likely Samsung’s 64MP sensor. There is no much detail about the Meizu 17 at the moment but we expect more to emerge a the day roll by.

The phone will no doubt be a beauty to behold just like the Meizu 16S Pro. Perhaps, you should check out to Meizu 16S Pro hands-on post to appreciate the sleekness of Meizu’s latest flagship.

Samsung Galaxy Fold confirmed to debut in India on October 1

2019 was thought to be the year of foldable smartphones. But the hopes were quickly shattered with all major contenders facing technical difficulties with their design. Despite facing several reliability issues in the past, the Samsung Galaxy Fold was globally launched earlier this month. The South Korean tech giants plan to bring its first foldable smartphone to India on Oct. 1. The company has already sent our press invites for the launch event. The Galaxy Fold is scheduled to go on sale in the US on Sept. 27 following some heavy hardware upgrades to overcome the fragility issues.

While the additional precaution is a welcome move, Samsung seems to be taking a cautious step with the smartphone’s relaunch, given the device’s brief yet problematic history. Among the more common problems was the crease within the display, and the screen protector that some people happily peeled off, resulting in the display going dark.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Price in India  (Rumored)

There is no official announcement regarding the prices yet. But, judging by the prices in the US, the Galaxy Fold is likely to be priced around Rs. 1,40,000 (~$1,985) in India. The smartphone will be available via retail stores, but can only be purchased via pre-bookings. Galaxy Fold customers are entitled to receive exclusive access to a specialized customer assistance network, including 24×7 virtual support and mano-a-mano interactions with service personnel.

Richard Yu claims Huawei shipments would exceed 300 million units if US ban were lifted

At a recent Huawei Mate 30 press conference, Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business, said that if the US ban were to be lifted, Huawei’s mobile phone shipments would exceed 300 million units this year. On top of this, he also announced that despite the bans in place, Huawei’s mobile business has continued to grow, and they’ve retained their 2nd spot worldwide.

Richard Yu also announced the company’s sales records from January to August this year: smartphone shipments increased by 26%, notebooks increased by 249%, smart audio increased by 256 percent, and smart wear increased by 278%. These are some pretty good numbers, but they also took place before the ban so it’s possible we’ll see a decline later.

In the Hong Kong market, Huawei’s also be growing pretty well. In the first eight months of 2019, Huawei’s mobile phone market share in Hong Kong averaged 22.8%, sales increased by more than 40% year-on-year, and the sales growth rate of new products such as smart watches and wearable devices reached 110%.

This is also actually corroborated by Richard himself as according to him, if the trade war had not taken place, the Huawei P30 series would have already exceeded 20 million shipments. It’s interesting to see how Huawei has been growing as of late, and we’re eager to see how things turn out later in the future for them.

Blackview BV9800 Pro coming soon to bring thermal camera designed for outdoor adventures

Blackview is known for making phones for adventurers as they make some of the best rugged phones out there. Adventures, by definition, should include elements of fun, thrills, and sometimes even danger. But if you carry reliable gear, you have nothing to fear. Blackview recently launched the new rugged BV9800 Pro, the first thermal camera phone designed for outdoor adventures.

Blackview BV9800 ProThe BV9800 Pro helps serious adventurers increase situational awareness via the integrated FLIR® Lepton® that “sees” heat which is invisible to the human eye. Thermal vision is a key capability in areas of national defense, public safety, and firefighting and provides diagnostic capabilities for utilities, construction, and inspection. The ability to create an image based on differences in heat allows users to see in total darkness and know the temperature of all the objects in the scene. In addition, the BV9800 Pro comes with a Sony® 48MP camera as well as the standard IP68/IP69K and MIL-STD-810G certifications that all Blackview rugged devices come with. Also, there is GPS/GLONASS/BEIDOU navigation systems, air-pressure sensor, and a 6580mAh battery that offers a battery life of up to 840 hours in standby or 27 hours of talk time.

Blackview BV9800 Pro

A thermal camera may seem like a gimmick but it can prove to be useful in a number of situations. For example, imagine that you are out camping in the forest and start a campfire to warm or cook. To make sure that the fire is out before you leave, you can use the thermal camera to check because it is very common for fires to seem extinguished but they rise again. It is similar to what firefighters do to check for any “hotspots”. The BV9800 Pro can confirm that a campfire is completely out before you go to sleep or break camp. And while sitting around the campfire, you can see if that noise in the darkness is an animal or your friend trying to scare you.

Blackview BV9800 ProMany animals are naturally camouflaged and very hard to see with the naked eye, even when they in plain sight. Wildlife photographers can often use the thermal-camera capability of the BV9800 Pro to spot an animal’s heat (unless hidden by foliage or behind terrain). With the exact position of the animal known, you can change the lens to the Sony® 48MP camera to capture photos of animals in their natural environments.

Europe’s Honor 9X Pro will differ from Chinese version

The Honor 9X Pro is heading to Europe more than two months after it launched in China. However, when it does, there will be a major difference between the European version and the one sold in China.

According to Sudhanshu Ambhore (@Sudhanshu1414), press renders of the Honor 9X Pro heading to the Old Continent, show the phone has its fingerprint scanner on the back. Yes, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and not a side-mounted one like the Chinese variant.

As at the time of writing, we do not know why Honor is making this change. We also cannot say if this will be the same for the model launching in other markets such as India.

Other than the change in the position of the fingerprint scanner, we have not learned of any other differences. Based on that, the Honor 9X Pro should arrive in Europe with a 6.59-inch FHD+ display, a 16MP pop-up selfie camera, and a 48MP + 8MP + 2MP triple camera setup.

It should have the Kirin 810 processor with 8GB of RAM, though there is a chance it may get a 6GB RAM version too. Storage should also be 128GB or 256GB. Other features are a 4000mAh battery, Bluetooth 5.0, an audio jack, and EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9 Pie. The press renders show the phone will be available in Magic Night Black and Phantom Purple.

There is still no date for the launch but once we know, we will share it with you.

Purported Huawei Mate X 2’s design revealed through patent filings

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019, Huawei had showcased the Huawei Mate X foldable phone. It is expected to hit the market in the coming month. A new patent that was filed by Huawei with United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in February was been granted approval on Sept. 26. The same patent was also included in the database of World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). The new patent showcases a design for a foldable phone like Mate X along with a dedicated slot for a stylus.

In the renders created from the patent images of the new foldable phone design by Lets Go Digital, the compartment for the stylus can be seen in the side bar where the camera system is present. Somehow the company could be making a space to insert the stylus in the sidebar. The Mate X has a USB-C port in the same location. Probably, this could be the design of the rumored Mate X 2.

The visualizations of the alleged Mate X 2 suggest that the addition of a stylus compartment could result in reduction of battery size. At present, there is no information available on the specifications of the successor of the Mate X.

Alleged Huawei Mate X 2 Design with stylus

It is not the first time that the Huawei phone has been seen with a stylus. The Mate 20 X phablet from last year that featured a massive 7.2-inch display supported the company’s M Pen stylus. Since a foldable phone offers user with a larger experience, the inclusion of a stylus will offer better productivity experience. The Mate X has a price tag of 2,300 euros. Hence, it remains to be seen whether the purported successor model with stylus support commands a costlier price tag.

Alleged Huawei Mate X 2 Design

Huawei is expected to announce its new P-series of flagship phones in the first quarter of 2020. Probably, the company may also unleash the purported Mate X 2 with stylus support alongside the next P-series phones.

What’s your opinion on the design of the alleged successor of the Mate X? Share us your thoughts by posting your comments below.
