The ROG Phone 2 will launch next week as the first Snapdragon 855+ powered device. The phone already appeared on Geekbench and live photos also leaked online. Now, it has been spotted on TENAA and the listing reveals some new details.
This is a partial listing, so only a few specs have been made public. To start with, the phone has a 6.59-inch display, which has been confirmed to have a 120Hz refresh rate.
The display size is not the only thing that has increased, TENAA also revealed the phone is getting a bigger battery. The battery capacity is a whopping 5800mAh, a huge increase from the 4000mAh capacity of last year’s ROG Phone.
That increase in battery capacity also plays a part in the increase of the thickness of the phone from 8.3mm to 9.78mm. The device is 170.99mm tall and 77.6mm wide.

There are also pictures of the ROG Phone 2. In front, you can see the bezels are slimmer while the back has also gotten a redesign. There are now two LED flashlights and only one air vent. There is also no fingerprint scanner which means there should be one under the AMOLED display. The ROG Aura logo is still there and like on its predecessor, it should have an RGB light and double as a notification LED.
The volume rocker and power button are still positioned on the right side and on the left is the side-mount connector for accessories like a cooling fan or dock.
The ROG Phone 2 will run Android Pie out of the box and have 12GB of RAM.
The newly-released Blackview BV6100 is the world’s biggest display rugged phone since it sports a 6.88″ screen and to spice things up, the Chinese manufacturer went with a design different from all other rugged devices, choosing glass both for the front and the back of the device. Definitely a device to keep in mind when looking for an affordable rugged phone. So, let’s take a look at its specs and features.
Fully Equipped
As the market is very competitive, for a device to succeed an affordable price isn’t enough. Blackview knows this and for that reason, the BV6100 is more than just another rugged device. It sports a huge, 6.88″ display, ideal for watching movies or playing games. And they even implemented a dedicated split-screen button to make multitasking even easier on the big display. What’s more, in the box you will find a ring-grip case for handling the phone with one hand without the fear of dropping it.
For those who travel a lot, the BV6100 comes with all 4 positioning protocols: GPS, Glonass, Beidou, and Galileo. It the first device of the company that comes with all 4 protocols and navigating with it has become more accurate than ever. What’s also great is the fact that they didn’t skimp on other premium features found on premium smartphones like the latest OS version and AI support. The BV6100 comes with the latest Android 9 Pie and with AI features being its main draw, the new OS also comes with interesting traits like an adaptive battery, gesture-based navigation, an official dark mode along with a few tricks that will help you reduce your interaction with the phone with “Digital Wellbeing”.
Better outdoors experience
Outdoor use can become dangerous for a smartphone as humidity, rain, and accidental drops on hard terrain are common. The BV6100 comes with IP68/IP69K and MIL-STD-810G certifications to avoid all this. You can even shoot photos underwater with the special mode in the camera app. The phone won’t face any problems with hydraulic pressure according to the company. Of course, many hours away from a power socket requires a big battery and the new model takes care of that with its 5580mAh large-capacity battery that delivers up to 600h of standby.
Suitable for formal occasions too
Most rugged phones are a little bit… ugly. In fact, they are so ugly that if you are formally dressed, you can’t bring them with you as they will ruin your outfit. With the BV6100, Blackview tries to break this stereotype by delivering an all-glass phone and a body thickness of just 11.5mm. No, it isn’t as sleek as some other normal devices but it is stylish enough for every occasion.
Lastly, it comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor as well as AI face unlock for instant unlocking and secure payments. Payments are also available via the NFC that supports the Google Pay service. The Blackview BV6100 is now available for preorder until July 25th and costs just $149.99. On July 23, Honor will be holding a launch event in China to announce the Honor 9X series of smartphones. The Chinese firm is also expected to announce MagicBook Pro notebook at the same event. The Chinese firm has also started receiving pre-orders of the new Honor Band 5 by making a deposit payment. The fitness band will also go official alongside the Honor 9X series in the coming week.
Multiple platforms such as Vmall, Tmall, Suning and JD are receiving the pre-orders of the Honor Band 5 even though it has gone official yet. Customers can pre-order the fitness band by making a deposit payment until July 23. The final payment can be done between 6 PM on July 23 and 6 PM on July 24. People who participate in the blind order of the Band 5 will be provided with priority delivery service.
The Chinese retailer sites are carrying the pre-orders of standard edition of the Honor Band 5. This indicates that there could be an advanced model that may get revealed on July 23. The pre-order listing of the Band 5 shows that it can be availed in colors like Ochre Black, Midnight Blue and Coral Pink. If there’s one thing Honor loves more than releasing some pretty great products, it’s spokespeople. The company has had multiple brand ambassadors for almost every product they’ve made, and it seems to be working for them. So, with the brand new Honor 9X, people have been questioning who will be the product ambassador this time around. Well, we might actually have an idea of who it’ll be, at least when it comes to China.
Honor President George Zhao went to Weibo earlier today, and his post is fairly intriguing. Here, he basically talks about popular Chinese anti-drug drama “Icebreaking Action”, claiming he watches it on weekends. He then drops that an actor from the show will be an ambassador for the Honor 9X. Shortly after that, Chinese actor Huang Jingyu (also known as Johnny Huang) posts a selfie via Honor 9X.
Now, Huang Jingyu has been pretty famous as of late, featuring in multiple popular Chinese dramas and being slated to be in many other upcoming shows as well. It makes sense that Honor would want him to be their ambassador, considering he’s currently one of the more popular stars in China. There have even been images of the man using the Honor 9X in other places, so it seems pretty clear he’ll be it.
Huang Jingyu’s most successful and well-known work is the modern navy film “Red Sea Action”. He has well shaped the image of the sniper sniper Gu Shun in the film. The total box office of the movie reached 3.651 billion yuan. Huang Jingyu has also been nominated for the 34th Volkswagen Film Hundred Flowers Award for the best newcomer.
Since the past couple of years, Vivo has been actively introducing new and unique innovative technologies to its smartphones. After introducing features like full-screen display, pop-up front-facing camera, in-display fingerprint sensor, and others, the company is now introducing a new feature called “Dual Wi-Fi Acceleration”.
As the name indicates, the “Dual Wi-Fi Acceleration” feature can allow users to connect two Wi-Fi connections on the same device at the same time. Users can connect to another Wi-Fi connection on top of the main Wi-Fi.
The company claims that connecting two Wi-Fi networks at the same time can provide a mobile stable connection for gaming as well as faster and smoother web browsing experience. The device supports connecting both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi at the same time.
A small video clip shared by the company shows a smart multi-network acceleration option in the phone which has Dual Wi-Fi feature enabled. When clicked on the option, it can connect to another Wi-Fi once the main Wi-Fi gets connected.

The floor cleaner is already available for pre-order with two different brushes at 1299 yuan ($189), and it begins shipping on the 31st of August.

12GB RAMs have become a norm among top-end flagships this year. However, all of the current 12GB RAM smartphones use the old LPDDR4X standard. But that’s going to change in the second half of the year as Samsung Electronics has just announced the mass production of industry’s first 12Gb (Gigabit) LPDDR5 mobile DRAM. These high-end DRAMs are targeted at 5G and AI powered flagships that are set to debut later this year.
Back in March this year, Samsung kicked off the mass production of 12GB LPDDR4X RAM modules. But now, we’ll soon see the mass production of 12GB LPDDR5 RAM modules based on these new 12Gb mobile DRAM chips. For those who are a bit confused after reading the above sentence, know that eight 12Gb (Gigabit) LPDDR5 DRAM chips are packaged together to make one 12GB (Gigabyte) RAM module. This is because Gigabit is eight times smaller than a Gigabyte. And the RAMs, ROMs, and other memory products that we use are usually represented in Gigabytes, and not Gigabits.
The new 12Gb LPDDR5 DRAMs have an increased data rate of 5,500 megabits per second (Mb/s), which is 1.3 times LPDDR4X’s 4266 Mb/s data rate. This also means that the 12GB RAM package is able to transfer 44GB of data in a second. Samsung adds that the new chip consumes up to 30 percent less power than its predecessor, thanks to new circuit design.
It’s possible that we’ll see this 12GB LPDDR5 RAM package inside the Galaxy Note 10 flagship (probably with the new Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset) that’ll launch in August. Samsung also revealed its plans to develop 16Gb LPDDR5 DRAM chips next year to power future flagships.

Earlier this year, South Korean giant Samsung launched its ambitious foldable smartphone — Samsung Galaxy Fold, which the company had been working on for years. While the phone is yet to go on sale, the company is reportedly working on its successor.
As per the report, which cites the company’s suppliers in Taiwan as the source, Samsung is working on a next-generation foldable smartphone which is expected to get launched early next year but not specific timeframe is known yet.
The report further adds that while the current foldable smartphone comes with a book-like foldable smartphone, the next-generation foldable smartphone will have a flip design and will be folded vertically and not horizontally.
While nothing much is known about this upcoming foldable smartphone, the report adds that the smartphone will come with a 6.7-inch display. It also reveals that the company will start sourcing components for this device from November this year.
The news about the next-generation foldable smartphone from Samsung comes when the company is yet to start selling the Galaxy Fold smartphone, it’s first foldable display device. While the phone was announced earlier this year, it’s sales have been postponed because of the display-related issues reported by the early reviewers.
The company has reported fixed the issues and is all set to start selling the smartphone, but is yet to officially confirm this. It is believed that the company could take the stage at the Galaxy Note 10 smartphone launch on 7th August to share more information about the Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone.
Earlier this week, Redmi had released an image of a new color edition for the Redmi Note 7. At that time, it did not confirm on the name of the color variant, but it confirmed that it will be available for purchase from today. The new model that is dubbed as “Mirror Flower Water Moon” is now listed on the official online store for buying. The Redmi Note 7 Pro is also available in the new color.
The “Mirror Flower Water Moon” name may sound weird, but it describes the reflecting design of the new color variant. In Chinese, “Mirror Flower, Water Moon” is a proverb that refers to something that cannot be touched but can be seen. For instance, reflection of a flower on mirror or reflection of the moon on water’s surface. The below shown video of the new color variants showcases its beauty.
The Redmi Note 7 Mirror Flower Water Moon version comes in single version featuring 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. It carries a price tag of 1,199 Yuan (~$174) after 200 Yuan discount. The 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage edition of the Redmi Note 7 Pro costs 1,399 Yuan (~$203) after a price cut of 200 Yuan. These models will be available at discounted price tags until tomorrow.

After the United States banned Huawei from doing business with any of the US-based firms and using their technology citing national security, US soon started lobbying its allies to follow the suit in banning the company.
However, as per the letter from UK Parliament member and Science and Technology Committee chairman Norman Lamb, the Chinese giant Huawei won’t be banned in the United Kingdom. The Parliament Committee thus rejected the proposed British ban on Huawei, its products, and services.
Concluding the research, Norman Lamb wrote in his letter: “Overall, my Committee concludes that — subject to restrictions on access to highly sensitive elements of the relevant networks; continued close scrutiny; and satisfactory improvements in Huawei’s cybersecurity in response to the Huawei Cyber Security Centre’s Oversight Board — there are no technical grounds for excluding Huawei entirely from the UK’s 5G or other telecommunications networks.”
However, the letter does add that the company is to be restricted from having “access to highly sensitive elements of the relevant networks,” which means that the UK’s Science and Technology Committee chair still doesn’t trust the Chinese company when it comes to sensitive information.
The letter further adds that banning Huawei from 5G network rollouts will do nothing to stop the Chinese influence given that multiple vendors make their products in China. To ban Huawei wouldn’t be enough to get rid of the perceived “threat” as one would have to get rid of every Chinese corporation.
The response from the UK regarding the call from the United States for banning Huawei in the next-generation telecom network technology is in line with other countries like Germany which has said it wouldn’t ban Huawei from its 5G network rollout simply because it is a Chinese corporation.
While the United States is working hard to convince its allies to keep Huawei out of 5G network rollouts globally, the Chinese telecom giant is actively signing up global customers for 5G network deployment, with ten new clients since March 2019. The company claims that more than half of Huawei’s 50 commercial 5G contracts are with European carriers, with the rest being American carriers such as Verizon Wireless.
Earlier this month, Monaco launched the next-generation 5G mobile network technology and with that, it became the first country in Europe to launch the 5G network based on the technology supplied from China-based Huawei.
US President Donal Trump signed an executive order a couple of months ago to put Chinese giant Huawei on the “Entity List”, effectively banning the US-based companies from doing any kind of business with Huawei.
The negative impact of the company’s clash with the US government is now coming out in the open. The latest market analysis reveals that the company’s growth has slowed down in the second quarter of this year.
As per the report, the company’s sales in Europe’s large market were down by 1.9 percent over Q1 and 9 percent down compared to the period of May to June. This is the duration when the impact of the ban was felt. However, the company still managed to achieve better results overall compared to Q2 2018.
Analysts believed that the negative press surrounding the company’s products because of the ban from the United States government is causing users to second guess their Huawei purchase. The report also adds that Samsung and Xiaomi are the ones that have benefited the most from this ban.
However, the positive quarter reporting for Huawei was achieved through its dominant performance in China. When combined with the sales of Honor devices, Huawei commanded an impressive 46.1 percent of the Chinese smartphone sales in Q2 of 2019.
Surprisingly, Motorola captured around 8.1 percent of the market share in Q2 2019 in the United States, thanks to the great performance of the Motorola E5 Play and the new Moto G6 Plus smartphones.
Also, the best-selling smartphone in the United States was the Apple iPhone XR, the most affordable offering from the three smartphones announced last year. This was followed by the iPhone 8 and iPhone XS Max. The fourth and fifth position was grabbed by the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus and Galaxy S10.
While Huawei had faced very difficult times in the past couple of months, it seems that the company will be soon out of waters. The US Commerce Department will reportedly start issuing licenses to the US first to resume business with Huawei in the coming weeks.
