Huawei to Invest $3.1 billion in Italy in the next three years

Huawei seems to be strengthening its position in Europe as the company announced its plan to invest $3.1 billion in Italy over the course of the next three years. The company’s Italian chief, Thomas Miao further revealed that the new investment will create 1,000 direct jobs in the market by 2021.

Huawei Mate 20 X 5G
Mate 20 X comes with new-age 5G support

Specifically, Huawei plans to invest around $1.2 billion in operations and marketing and another 1.9 billion in direct supplies in the Italian market. An additional $52 million would be spent for R&D activities. This investment comes on the sidelines of a new decree passed by the Italian government that increases the power of the state to intervene in the matters of the private ICT (information and communications technology) sector which includes 5G. The decree reportedly comes as a result of the government’s need to strengthen national security in the country’s strategic sectors.

According to the decree, Italian companies will be required to inform the government of any purchases in the ICT sector from non-European suppliers. If this decree is passed by the parliament, then the rollout of essential ICT infrastructure networks like 5G will be monitored.

Huawei is currently the world’s largest telecom equipment supplier and a leader in 5G technology. But this decree could give an unfair advantage to European companies like the Finnish Nokia and the Swedish Ericsson who also supply 5G equipment to carriers. So, Huawei’s Miao has urged Italy to make the rules fair for all supplier and not just target non-European companies.

More Elephone PX pop-up camera device surface showing its colors

Last month we informed you about the redesigned Elephone PX smartphone that is set to follow the U2 in the pop-up camera series of the company. The original Elephone PX that was announced about a year ago never made it to the market due to manufacturing problems so the company decided to reimburse all the backer of the Indiegogo campaign.

Elephone PX

It seems that the reason behind the delay of the redesigned PX is the control of supplier resources from first-line brands like Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi that have or are about to introduce their pop-up camera phones. Eventually, the phone will hit the market and judging from the photos that surfaced today, it will be soon. The new photos reveal the color choices made be Elephone and they look stunning.

As you can see, there are 2 gradient colors and one solid color with lumia effects on the back. To keep up to date with future Elephone products, you can visit their official website.

ROG Phone 2 Geekbench result shows how powerful the Snapdragon 855+ is

The ASUS ROG Phone 2 will be the first smartphone to come with the new Snapdragon 855 Plus processor. Set to be announced next week, July 23, the device has been spotted on Geekbench, giving us a chance to see how powerful the new SoC is.

Benchmarked as the “asus ASUS_I001DC”, the ROG Phone 2 runs Android 9 Pie. It also has 12GB of RAM, though we expect there will be another RAM variant. Last year’s model was only available in a single RAM variant (8GB) but you could choose between 12GB or 512GB of storage.

ROG Phone 2 Geekbench

The Geekebench result shows the motherboard name as “msmnile”, the same name it shows for a lot of other Snapdragon 855 phones. The base frequency is also the same at 1.78GHz. However, the ROG 2 scores slightly higher in its core test.

For the single-core test, the device scored 3616 points and scored 11,103 points in the multi-core test. This is just a bit higher than the average score of Snapdragon 855-powered phones. The difference isn’t large because the only difference between the SD855 and SD855+ is the higher CPU and GPU clockspeed of the latter.

The new processor is expected to show up in phones from Black Shark, Xiaomi, Redmi, Nubia’s Red Magic line, and Vivo’s iQOO later this year.

Exynos 9825-powered Galaxy Note 10 appears on GeekBench, surpasses Exynos 9820

Samsung‘s Galaxy Note 10 has just been benchmarked for the first time on Geekbench. The device was sported on the benchmark app with a comparison between the Exynos 9820 and Exynos 9825 chipsets onboard. The Exynos 9820 is the SoC onboard the Galaxy S10+while the latter is onboard the Note 10.

The GeekBench listing shows the Note 10 comes with the model number Samsung SM-N970F. The device is also listed to have 8GB of RAM. The Exynos 9825 SoC is expected to be a 7nm chipset whereas the Exynos 9820 isn’t. The Exynos 9825 will utilise Samsung’s 7nm ultraviolet lithography that is perceived to be superior to the TSMC foundry’s aging production method that is reaching the end of its abilities.

As for the benchmark performance, the new Exynos 9825 chipset on board the Galaxy Note 10 is shown to be faster than even the Galaxy S10+ scores on Geekbench. The chipset manages a Single-Core Score of 4495 points and on the multi-core test, it scores 10223 points. Whereas the Galaxy S10+ is listed with a single-core score of 4357 and the multi-core score of 10045 points. This is pretty impressive as this puts the Note 10 in good stead ahead of next year’s Snapdragon 865 release. Both chipsets may likely be produced on the same node.

Huawei’s EMUI 9.1 adopts a minimalist design, thanks to Android 9.0’s deep customization optimization. This version also brings improvements in wallpapers, themes and icons. There are also several improvements to the overall user apps which makes it easier to use the UI. There are also improvements in artificial intelligence (AI) features covering various aspects such as health, office, entertainment, travel and more.

A tweet by Manu Kumar Jain, head of Xiaomi India, mentioned a special version will be available tomorrow. The tweet also includes a photo of the device albeit just a part. Galaxy Note 10 release reportedly hit by Japan’s removal of Korea from Export White list

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 10 in a couple of months time. There are reports that the release of the Note 10 may be affected by Japan’s change in trade policy with South Korea. Japan was earlier reported to have removed South Korea from a White List of countries that were granted expedited export procedures. The move meant that companies exporting raw materials critical for semiconductor manufacture to South Korea would now have to wait for 90 days before their exports are cleared.

This change in policy has resulted in a hike in the prices of DRAM in Soth Korea. This is despite claims by semiconductor industry officials that stocked inventory for the modules will ensure that real-world consumer impacts from the ban aren’t immediate. The new report of how the embargo affects Samsung says otherwise. The report from the South Korean press hints that Samsung will be affected by a decrease in Exynos 9825 production.

The Galaxy Note 10 is expected to be powered by an Exynos 9825 chipset. The 7nm chipset has a smaller feature size than its predecessor the Exynos 9820, which is present on Samsung’s Galaxy S10 lineup. According to the official, as reported by Sammobile, “This month, Samsung has cut by 10 percent the target production of the Exynos, a mobile processor that will be used for the Note 10.” The company is expected to shore up production next month but we don’t know how they hope to achieve that. Worst-case scenario, the Galaxy Note 10 may be launched as scheduled but actual sales may be delayed slightly.

Motorola One Macro is another Android One phone from Motorola

Last year, Motorola joined the Android One program with its Motorola One and Motorola One Power smartphones. It followed them up with the Motorola One Vision this year. There are reports there will be two new phones called the Motorola One Action and Motorola One Pro; renders of both phones have already leaked. But it seems Motorola has more phones planned. A new leak has revealed there will be another device which will launch as the Motorola One Macro.

Motorola One Macro

The name of the device was revealed by Evan Blass (@evleaks) in the early hours of today. We have no reason to doubt the leak since he originally leaked the name of the other Motorola One Vision before it launched and that of the Motorola One Action and Motorola One Pro too.

There are no details regarding the specs of the phone or its design. We also can’t tell if it will launch this year or it is just a trademarked name. The Motorola One Action and Motorola One Pro are yet to launch, so the Macro might arrive much later.

Kirin 810 performance is really amazing, almost as good as Exynos 9810

Chinese smartphone benchmark app Master Lu has released the benchmark score of two of Huawei‘s Kirin 810-powered smartphones. The Hisilicon Kirin 810 chipset was launched onboard the Huawei Nova 5 a few weeks back. It is also expected to be on board the upcoming Honor 9X.Huawei Nova 5 Pro

The data released shows the Honor 9X scored a total of 270,037 points while the Huawei Nova 5 seems to have a higher clock speed, polling a total of 278,181 points. This is over 20,000 points higher than the Snapdragon 730-powered Redmi K20’s Master Lu benchmark score.

Master Lu acknowledged that since the two Huawei phones are yet to go on sale, there’s the possibility that the score of the test units and that of the commercial units may be different. However, the difference may not be too significant.

EDITOR’S PICK: Huami launches the Amazfit GTR series with AMOLED displays

Master Lu stressed that since both models have not yet been sold, the current number of test models is small, and it is not possible to rule out the possibility that the scores will fluctuate later. However, with the scores of Huawei’s nova 5 and glory 9X, the performance of the Kirin 810 is almost similar to the Samsung Exynos 9810 which is Samsung’s 2018 flagship SoC. The chipset seems to surpass all others in the mid-range category and that is pretty impressive.

As a reminder, the HiSilicon Kirin 810 is an octa-core processor which is built on TSMC’s 7nm node. It comes equipped with two Cortex-A76 high-performance large cores clocked at 2.27 GHz and six Cortex-A55 energy-efficient small cores clocked at 1.88 GHz. It is coupled with Mali-G52 GPU for graphics processing. It also comes with the new Huawei DaVinci architecture NPU, which consumes less energy and has artificial intelligence (AI) technology running at over 32,280 points. s stated, the AI performance of the Kirin 810 even surpasses that of the flagship Snapdragon 855.

MediaTek to announce Helio G90 chipset designed for mobile gaming

Following the launch of the Snapdragon 855+ yesterday, reports have surfaced about MediaTek‘s plan to launch a new mobile processor. The new processor which is called the Helio G90 will be the first of a new line of mobile gaming-focused chipsets.

A poster of the Helio G90 has leaked but it doesn’t reveal much other than the fact that it is targeted at mobile gaming. There are rumors it will be officially announced by the end of July, hopefully, more details will surface before then.

MediaTek Helio G90

We are also curious to know which manufacturers will adopt the Helio G90 which it launches. Xiaomi hasn’t announced a phone powered by a MediaTek processor this year. The Mi Play released last year was the last Xiaomi phone with an MTK chipset. Other big-name manufacturers like OPPO and Vivo have announced multiple phones with MediaTek chipsets, so one of them might be the first to announce an Helio G90-powered device.

Last month, MediaTek announced the Helio P65, an octa-core processor with Cortex-A75 and Cortex A55 cores, making it more powerful (CPU-only) than the Helio P60 and Helio P70. However, it comes with a less powerful GPU, doesn’t support UFS 2.1 storage like the P70, and only supports single-channel LPDDR4x RAM. On the plus side, the P65 has a better NPU than the P60 and P70.

The Helio P65 will make its debut in the Indian version of the Vivo S1 which is reported to launch in early August.

OPPO Reno undergoes JerryRigEverything’s durability test, See if it survives

OPPO took the industry by storm when it released the Reno series comprising the OPPO Reno 10x zoom and the Reno. Later the Reno Z joined the fray. The Reno 10x zoom is unarguably the top of the pack model but if you can’t afford the price tag, the Reno is a worthy replacement with mid-range specs, including a Snapdragon 710 SoC and without the periscope camera. OPPO Reno

The Reno still retains the design of the flagship 10x zoom variant including the amazing triangular pop-up shooter that houses the selfie camera on one side and the LED flash for the rear snappers on the other side.

The OPPO Reno has now been subjected to the durability test process of Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything fame. There’s hardly the possibility that phones would go through the sort of torture that characterizes the test. However, it gives us an idea of how the phone fares under extreme conditions in real life.oppo reno

First off, the YouTuber subjected the phone to a scratch test. The scratch test doesn’t really reveal anything out of the ordinary. Since there is a Gorilla Glass protection over the screen, the device will scratch at similar levels on the Mohs hardness scale. The device was also subjected to the rather pointless flame test which turns the AMOLED pixels white after around thirty seconds, and they never quite recover.

The one that interests us the most is the bend test. The only snag is that the glass back separates from the frame, perhaps due to weak adhesive but there is no irreversible damage to the phone.

The company had confirmed that the device will go on sale as early as the third quarter of 2019. A listing of a 5G-enabled Vivo smartphone with model number V1916A from has appeared on the database China’s 3C certification body. It could be the upcoming Vivo iQOO 5G.

The 3C listing further states that the Vivo V1916A will be shipped with the Vivo V3030A-CN charger, which supports up to 44W Fast Charging. No other information of the specs of the phone is currently available on 3C.

Vivo V1916A 5G 3C

The regular Vivo iQOO smartphone carries support for 44W rapid charging technology. Hence, it is being speculated that the V1916A is the iQOO 5G hiding in plain sight. There is no concrete evidence at the moment to confirm on its exact identity.

Vivo iQOO Specifications and Features

The Vivo iQOO features a 1080 x 2340pixel full HD+ 6.41-inch Super AMOLED display with waterdrop notch. It offers an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The device is powered by a 2.84GHz octa-core Snapdragon 855 SoC and gets up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage. The device lacks support for expandable memory.

The Vivo iQOO runs on the Android 9.0 Pie-based FunTouch 9.0 OS, and draws power from a 4,000 mAh battery. It has a triple camera setup at the rear. The primary lens is a 12-megapixel unit, which works along with a 13-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The front-facing camera is a 12-megapixel unit.

The Vivo iQOO is equipped with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The connectivity options include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB Type-C and 3.5mm audio jack. The 5G edition of the smartphone may house a smaller battery compared to its regular version.

Huami launches the Amazfit GTR series with AMOLED displays

Huami has just launched the latest in their popular line of Amazfit smartwatches, the brand new Amazfit GTR. While the average Amazfit smartwatch is squarely aimed at the budget conscious market, the Amafit GTR is a clear step towards a more premium direction. It’s obvious from the presentation alone that this isn’t your typical Huami smartwatch.

The Amazfit GTR comes in two different size options at 42mm and 47mm. While there are minute differences in terms of colour and dimensions, when it comes to specifications both models are identical. Regardless of which size you pick, your Amazfir GTR will have an AMOLED display with 326PPI pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top of it.

What sets the two sizes apart are colour options and dimensions, as well as the actual display resolution itself. The Amazfit GTR 42mm watch comes in four colour options, those being starry black, moonlight white, cherry powder, and coral red. This variant is slimmer and lighter. The body is about only about 9.2mm thick, and it weighs in at a dainty 25.5g. There’s also a limited edition version of the 42mm that comes with 60 swarovski crystals.

The Amazfit GTR 47mm, as you would expect, is slightly chunkier than the 42mm, but not by a significant amount. It comes in a bunch of more professional colours like aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium, but there’s also a limited edition Iron Man edition unit here. Unlike the other options, the Iron Man edition Amazfit GTR has a red silicone strap instead.

On top of the typical smartwatch features like showing notifications and issuing controls to your smartphone, the Amazfit GTR has a few more tricks up its sleeve. The device has BioTracker PPG bio-optical sensors to offer advanced heart rate monitoring and 12 different sports modes covering a wide range of activities from swimming to skiing. Redmi and Realme Snapdragon 855+ smartphones may arrive in near future

Qualcomm has announced the more powerful Snapdragon 855+ mobile platform that offers better processing speeds and graphics performance than the SD855 chipset. Many Android smartphone OEMs have launched SD855 powered smartphones in the first half of the year. In the second of 2019, the ASUS ROG Phone II will be the first phone to feature Snapdragon 855+ SoC. However, there will be many other brands that could be now gearing up to launch SD855+ powered smartphones in the latter half of the year. It appears Redmi and Realme may also launch SD855 Plus phones later this year.

Redmi Snapdragon 855+Soon after the announcement of the Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, Redmi General Manger Lu Weibing released a Weibo post that hinted that a Redmi phone featuring the new flagship chipset may debut later this year. The rumor mill is speculating that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 will be powered by Snapdragon 855+. However, the possibility of an affordable Redmi flagship phone with SD855+ cannot be ruled out. Weibing had recently hinted that the next flagship phone from the company will include features like IR blaster, dual speakers and linear motor that are not available on the Redmi K20 Pro smartphone.

Realme Snapdragon 855+

Realme too has welcomed the Snapdragon 855+ chipset by reposting Qualcomm China’s SD855+ Weibo post. Realme has mainly concentrated on launching the affordable smartphones. Hence, it hasn’t released any Snapdragon 8XX series chipset powered phone yet. Realme’s Weibo post suggest that Snapdragon 855+ Realme phone could be in works.

Leaked information that had surfaced in May had claimed that Realme may launch a flagship phone called Realme X Pro this year. The leak had claimed that it may come in 6 GB and 8 GB RAM editions with 128 GB of native storage on both models. The Realme X Pro could be priced around 2,599 Yuan. It is advisable to wait for further reports to know whether the Realme and Redmi will really release SD855+ phones in this year.
