Xiaomi’s custom user interface — MIUI had received a lot of praise from the users in the past but it is now facing a lot of criticism from users since past several months. The major reason behind that is the company’s strategy to put advertisements in MIUI.

However, the company recently announced that it will be optimizing and monitoring the advertisements on the MIUI platform. This clarified that the ads on MIUI aren’t going anywhere, despite users being furious about it.

Xiaomi MIUI

Earlier, the company had revealed that it is planning to make use of algorithms which can improve the advertisement reach rate and also make sure that the ad that users see are relevant to their interests.

Recently, the China-based technology company revealed its financial data for the first quarter of 2019. Zomato successfully tests its Drone delivery technology in India

Zomato, one of the leading food delivery service provider in India, has announced that it has successfully tested its drone delivery technology. The test was conducted using a hybrid drone and was a part of the company’s attempts to reduce the time taken to make a food delivery to its customers.

The development comes months after the company had acquired drone startup TechEagle to reduce food delivery times and solve other issues like pollution and traffic. Zomato has also revealed that it is forming a consortium as per Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines to carry out experimental Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone operations.

Zomato Drone

Zomato revealed that drone tests were carried out last week at one of the remote sites approved by the DGCA but the company did not reveal the exact location where the drone-delivered the package.

In a statement, Zomato’s Founder and CEO, Deepinder Goyal said:

“We have been working towards building sustainable and safe delivery technology and with our first successful test, food delivery by drones is no longer just a pipe dream. While regulatory hurdles are not trivial, and the government’s concerns need to be looked at from various (valid) points of view, the tech is ready to fly and I am confident that drone delivery will be commonplace sooner rather than later.”

As for the drone used for this testing, it was a hybrid drone with a fusion of rotary wing and fixed wings, carrying a payload of 5 kilograms. It covered the distance of 5 kilometers in 10 minutes with a peak speed of 80kmph. Fully automated, each drone is currently being tested with (remote) pilot supervision to ensure safety, said the company.

According to the notification issued by Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) last month, interested companies need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the DGCA for conducting experimental Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations (BVLOS) of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS)/Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).

Samsung Galaxy Tab S5 with Snapdragon 855 likely to debut in August

Earlier this week, a new Samsung tablet with SM-T865 model number was spotted on Geekbench. The Snapdragon 855 chipset powered device was found to be the upcoming Galaxy Tab S5 tablet. Now, Galaxyclub.nl has shared some vital information on the tablet and has claimed that it may go official at some time in August.

The Geekbench listing of the Galaxy Tab S5 had revealed that it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 chipset and 6 GB of RAM. It will come preloaded with Android 9 Pie OS. According to the publication, the Galaxy Tab S5 will be arriving with its own S-Pen stylus.

In February, Samsung had launched a low powered Galaxy Tab S5e. The Snapdragon 670 SoC fueled tablet did not feature an S-Pen stylus. It was made available with a budget-friendly price tag of 399 euros. The Galaxy Tab S4 that was introduced last year had arrived with 699 euros price tag. Hence, it is likely that the Galaxy Tab S5 may also carry a similar price tag. The Tab S4 with model numbers SM-T830 and SM-T835 were made available as its Wi-Fi only and LTE variants. There is a possibility that the Galaxy Tab S5 may also come in Wi-Fi only (SM-T860) and LTE (SM-T865) variants.

Galaxy Tab S5e featured

There is no information available on the other specs and features of the Galaxy Tab S5. The South Korean tech giant had axed the 3.5mm audio jack in the Galaxy Tab S5e to achieve a thinner design. Hence, there is a chance that the upcoming Galaxy Tab S5 may lack a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Android 9 Pie OS on the device could be overlaid with the latest One UI from the company. The Galaxy Tab S4 did not feature a fingerprint scanner and it featured an iris scanner for user authentication. The Galaxy Tab S5 may also lack a fingerprint reader.

Last year, the Galaxy Tab S4 was introduced more or less at the same time as Galaxy Note 9 in August. A recent report had claimed that Samsung may debut the Galaxy Note 10 on Aug. 10. Probably, the Tab S5 may go official around the same time. It may hit the market at the beginning of September.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 Review: Smart Bracelet With AI Assistant

A few days ago, the latest smart bracelet, Xiaomi Mi Band 4 has been launched. Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is very well reviewed, the upgrade attracts extensive attention. Let’s check it out.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 offers five color variants, which are Black, Orange, Blue, Claret and Pink. We got the Black color variant.

The design of Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is similar to Xiaomi Mi Band 3, including the display and the wrist strap.

The wrist strap still adopts the TPU material, but I think it is not easy to wear.

Compared with Xiaomi Mi Band 3, the Home button on the display is changed to flat.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 comes with a 39.9% bigger display and is now using AMOLED color screen, and there’s even 2.5D scratch-resistant tempered glass on the top. Also, the resolution ratio is higher than Xiaomi Mi Band 3.

With the bigger display and higher resolution ratio, the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 can show more details. What’s more, the display of Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is brighter than Mi Band 3, when I play outdoor games, I can see the details showing on the display clearly.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is built-in 77 themes, such as Overwatch, Ali the fox, Luo Xiaohei and so on.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 mainly provides the function of notification, swiping cards and sports health. All functions need to be used by Mi Fit.

The notification feature consists of calls, message, reminders and other frequently-used applications. Users can choose whether or not to reply the calls by Xiaomi Mi Band 4.

For me, I turn on the notification of calls and some applications. This feature is easy for me to not miss the important calls.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 has an NFC variant, so it can be used as a traffic card and an entrance card. What’s more, it can also work with Xiaomi Mijia smart door locks.

With the high resolution ratio, Xiaomi Mi Band 4 also supports Alipay with QR code.

Sport tracking is the main features of Xiaomi bracelet, which can figure steps and calories up. For Xiaomi Mi Band 4, it can monitor 6 sport modes, such as swimming, indoor running, outdoor running, exercise, cycling and walking. And it is also water resistant up to 5ATM (50 meters) and sports an upgraded 6-axis high-precision sensor to intelligently recognize different type of swimming strokes including Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly stroke, and Medley.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 can accurately record information about sleep quality every night, including data on deep sleep and light sleep. The details can be checked on Mi Fit.

I have not always turned on the heart rate monitoring feature because of the high power consumption, which will reduce the battery life.

As the bigger and color display, Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is fueled by 125mAh battery, which is better than predecessors. And the weight of monitor is 10.7g, which is heavier than Xiaomi Mi Band 3.

In addition, Xiaomi Mi Band 4 and Xiaomi Mi Band 3 can use the same wrist strap, but they can’t use the same charger.

Although the charging contact has been placed at the rear side of the monitor in the Xiaomi Mi Band 4, it still needs to take out the monitor to charge.

Xiaomi’s AI assistant, called Xiao Ai, is installed in the Xiaomi Mi Band 4. Although Xiao Ai is not capable of speaking in Xiaomi Mi Band 4, but it can shows the information on the display.

The users need to swipe the screen to wake up Xiao Ai. Xiao Ai can also work with IoT devices. You can call Xiao Ai to turn on the light or fan.

The users need to swipe the screen to wake up Xiao Ai.

Compared with Amazfit smart watch, the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is a good chance for most of people to get more information about Xiao Ai and Mijia products.

Conclusion:

From Xiaomi Mi Band to Xiaomi Mi Band 4, the screen gets bigger and bigger. I deem that Xiaomi may design a full screen smart bracelet in the future.

Huawei could ship Hongmeng OS in October; Smartphone shipments likely to exceed 200 million

Huawei has been working on its own mobile operating system since quite some but the company was hoping it doesn’t have to use it. However, after the ban on the company by the Trump administration, Huawei has sped up the processor of releasing its mobile OS.

Earlier, it was reported that the Huawei’s own mobile operating system named Hongmeng OS could get released in August or September. However, as per the new reports, the operating system is now expected to be released in October.

Huawei

Initially, the company won’t be having an application ecosystem to fulfill the needs of a high-end user. So, Huawei is expected to focus on the budget smartphone segment with its own OS in the initial stages.

Outside China, Huawei is expected to ship its Hongmeng mobile operating system to Central and Eastern Europe as well as emerging countries. After China, Europe is a major market for the company and it has been putting efforts to develop an app ecosystem of its own for the European market.

As for smartphone shipments, the company’s smartphone shipments are expected to exceed 200 million units. A forecast report from Tianfeng International analyst Guo Mingxi suggests that Huawei could ship as much as 225 million units of its smartphones in 2019.

Huawei has become the major sufferer between the US-China trade war as the company’s smartphone sales have been affected by 50% in the last few weeks. Multiple carrier networks across different countries have postponed sales of the newly launched Huawei devices. Most of the US companies, including Google, Qualcomm, Intel, and others have cut ties with the Huawei. Also, the Chinese company will no longer have access to the Android Operating system after the temporary 90 days of relaxation.

Except for Southeast Asia, most of the US allies have withdrawn dealings with the Chinese telecom instrument provider. While countries like Australia, Germany, New Zealand, and others have barred Huawei from participating in the 5G network testing, Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines have welcomed the company.

Live photo of the LG W Series smartphone leaks, no earphone jack in sight

Thanks to a new leak, we get to see a live photo of the upcoming LG W series smartphone before it launches. LG’s new W series is said to be an affordable and online-only line of smartphones. We expect it to be announced very soon.

The live photo of the phone is of the same gradient blue variant we have seen in promo materials. The phone has three vertically arranged cameras with a slight bump. There is a red ring around one of the sensors and a LED flash below the camera module. The LG W series smartphone also has a fingerprint scanner on the back.

LG W series live photo

The phone has antenna lines on the sides which means the frame is made of metal that is sandwiched between two pieces of glass. The volume rocker and power button are on the right side of the frame but they appear to be too close to the top.

The photo also shows us a there is a speaker grille flanking the charging port at the bottom. We can’t see an audio jack at the bottom but there might be one at the top edge. It has already been confirmed that the phone will have LG’s Boombox sound technology.

The LG W smartphone will also have a waterdrop notch, be powered by a 12nm 2.0GHz octa-core processor, have a 4000mAh battery, and run Android Pie out of the box.

Google confirms Pixel 4 leak, releases official render

In what can be termed highly unusual and a very very rare occurrence for a device manufacturer, Google has sort of just confirmed the recently leaked Pixel 4 render by OnLeaks is genuine. It not only did that but also released an official render alongside.

The confirmation was made on Twitter by the official Made by Google (@madebygoogle) account. The attached render shows the Pixel 4 in black with its square-shaped camera module. This render also gives us a clearer look at the camera module and we can confirm it houses two cameras.

The Pixel 3 (and Pixel 3 XL) is one of the best camera phones out there and it has a single rear camera. Now that Google is adding an extra sensor, we can’t wait to have our minds blown. Google knows we are excited and even teases us by saying “Wait ’til you see what it can do”.

The rear cameras are on opposite sides of each other while the LED flash is at the bottom and what should be the laser focus module is at the top. There is also a smaller hole a few millimeters to the right of the flash. We are not sure but that might be a hole for a secondary microphone.

Google Pixel 4

There is no fingerprint scanner on the rear which might be a hint that it will have an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Pixel 4 is also shown to have a white power button that sits above the volume rocker which is painted black.

However, Google is keeping the design of the front of the phone a secret. OnLeaks’s render shows there is a small slit at the top of the screen for the earpiece and presumes the phone has a notch. We don’t know how wide or deep it is but we hope Google has learned its lesson with regards to the ridiculous notch of the Pixel 3 XL.

While the specs are still unknown, we are pretty sure it will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor and run Android Q out of the box. It should also have wireless charging like its predecessor.

The Google Pixel 4 is still months away from release. If we are to go by last year’s release date, then we still have to wait four more months. Nevertheless, Google seems to be bad at keeping its devices a secret (the Pixel 3a leaked months before release) and if it still hasn’t plugged those leaks yet, we might have more leaks before the official launch!

Google isn’t the only one adopting a square camera module this year, the 2019 iPhones are also coming with the same design. Interesting times we are in, interesting times.

Chinese media say Huawei’s PC business isn’t facing issues, new model coming next month

On Monday, we reported that Huawei’s PC business might be the worst hit with the on-going US ban following reports that the tech giant had ordered deliveries and development of new PCs be suspended. A new report says there is no truth to the matter.

Huawei MateBook D (2018)

Reports from Chinese media say insiders have termed the rumor as false and work is still ongoing. The unnamed source even revealed Huawei will release a new model next month. This new model will bring new features and may even be the first of a new series.

It has been reported that rumors about the suspension of production and development of new PCs might have been as a result of Huawei postponing the launch of the new MateBook. The PC was originally reported to be announced at CES Asia which began this week.

There is no info on the specs of the new PC are currently unknown. However, while it will launch in China in July, it may take a while before arriving in other markets.

Why the Asian countries disregard the US ban on Huawei?

Huawei has become the major sufferer between the US-China trade war. The company smartphone sales have been affected by 50% in the last few weeks. Multiple carrier networks across different countries have postponed sales of the newly launched Huawei devices. Most of the US companies, including Google, Qualcomm, Intel, and others have cut ties with the Huawei. The Chinese company will no longer have access to the Android Operating system after the temporary 90 days of relaxation. However, it will depend on the Android Open Source Project for updates.

Huawei has been through crests and troughs since the imposition of the ban. Except for Southeast Asia, most of the US allies have withdrawn dealings with the Chinese telecom instrument provider. The countries like Australia, Germany, New Zealand, and others have barred the Huawei to participate in the 5G network testing. Whereas, the Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia, Thailand, and the all-time US ally – Philippines have welcomed the company.

Particularly in the Philippines, Huawei is a significant investor; they have developed surveillance in the high-tech Bonifacio Global City. The advanced city consists of various sky scrappers and tree-lined beautiful streets. The whole city is furnished by Huawei with more than 200 high-definition security cameras. The entire system depends on the Huawei due to its cheap and quality products which have lured the country to disregard the US Ban.

Editor’s Desk:  Huawei vs. the US: What’s Happening Right Now?

The surveillance system is just a single example out of many investments which are paving the way for deep interaction between Huawei and Philippines. These are some main reasons behind ignoring the US ban on using the Huawei equipment. It signifies the weakening US influence in the region.

“There’s a skepticism of whether the U.S. arguments about the nefarious nature of Huawei and its connections to the Chinese government are actually valid,” Brian Harding, a fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington said. “And there’s a frustration the U.S. government isn’t bringing a viable alternative to the table.”

Huawei is also magnifying its offers and services at affordable prices to lure the region which has emerged as a breeding place for tech companies. The company is also actively testing the 5G network across these countries. “Huawei has established its reputation for value-for-money networking equipment and that is highly attractive to developing and growth markets,” said John Ure, director of the Telecommunications Research Project at the University of Hong Kong.

Although, the Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad also denied support to the US allegations. Humorously, he said, ” What is there to spy in Malaysia?”

Another critical US Ally, Thailand, is also testing 5G network with Huawei. The government in the Land of Smiles have awarded an opportunity to the Chinese maker to develop the 5G network. Japan is the only country barring Huawei from 5G contracts.

On the other hand, the US officials said that they would stop sharing information with countries using Huawei for 5G technology. Overall, it is difficult to predict what is going to happen in the future. We have to wait and watch to see how the whole situation unfolds itself.

Huawei is getting ready to face the hardened situation. They have stockpiled crucial components for 12 months.

Huawei Mate 20 X 5G edition passes 3C certification in China

Huawei’s smartphone business has tumbled amid the ongoing trade war between the US and China. The recently launched Huawei P30 series also failed to garner sales due to the recent trouble it faced in the US. However, the Chinese electronics maker is not stopping by these hurdles, and they are working on future devices. After several leaks and rumours, Huawei Mate 20 X 5G edition appeared on the 3C Chinese certification agency.

The Huawei Mate 20 X 5G has received a compulsory Certification which hints at the imminent launch in China. Although the 3C certification did not reveal any new detail about the device, however, it poured some light on the already known internals. Some new images of its rear side bearing a 5G logo also appeared along with its rear quad camera module. Unlike two color options on Huawei Mate 20 X, the 5G version is expected to come with a new color scheme.

The 5G support in Huawei Mate 20 X 5G version is facilitated by the Balong 5000 modem chipset which is the world’s first single-core 5G baseband modem. It is capable of achieving 4.6 Gbps download rate in the 6Ghz low-frequency band. The speed improves by 10X to 6.5Gbps if using millimeter wave or high-frequency band. The Kirin 980 chipset based on the 7nm process will bring 5G SA and NSA independent support.
