Redmi’s Killer Flagship K20 will feature Snapdragon 855 with an Outrageous AnTuTu Score

Xiaomi has gone all offensive on the new OnePlus 7 Pro flagship, posting ads teasing the coming of its own flagship killer, the Redmi K20. Now, Redmi’s General Manager, Lu Weibing has confirmed that the K20 will feature the high-end Snapdragon 855. This will be a first for Redmi since the brand has always focused on mid-range and budget processors in the past.

Redmi K20 Snapdragon 855

But that’s not all, we also have the AnTuTu score of the Redmi K20. The score revealed by Lu is actually outrageously high, even for a Snapdragon 855 powered smartphone. The K20 model, code-named Raphael, scores 458,754 in the AnTuTu benchmark. This is unusually high since most Snapdragon 855 phones score less than 400K in the same benchmark. To give you some perspective, the Mi 9, which is one of the best scoring flagships on AnTuTu scores around 370,00 on an average. That’s way less than this figure.

Redmi K20 AnTuTu score

With Redmi all set to enter the flagship market, we can’t help but wonder where it will be placed in terms of pricing. The K20 was supposed to be the next POCO F2, but that’s apparently not going to be the case since the company is pushing ads in India (where POCO is quite popular) with the K20 tagline. So, this could be a potential replacement to a Xiaomi flagship, especially in a market like India.

Xiaomi’s flagships haven’t been selling so well this market so a cheaper flagship (but more expensive than POCO) could be the solution. But this also basically ends any hope for the Mi 9 series to make to India.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S with 48MP camera is launching on May 20 in India

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 series smartphones have been quite popular in the company’s home market China as well as in India. There are two models in the series — Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, which was launched in India a few months ago, comes with a different camera configuration than the Redmi Note 7 launched in China in January this year. While the Chinese version features a 48MP + 5MP setup on the back, the Indian version comes with a 12MP + 2MP sensors.

However, now the company is all set to launch the 48MP + 5MP camera version in the Indian market. Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi India MD has confirmed that the Redmi Note 7S with a 48MP camera will be launched in India on 20th May.

Since the difference between the Indian version and the Chinese version of the Redmi Note 7 was only the rear camera setup, we expect other specifications of the Redmi Note 7S to be the same as the Redmi Note 7.

The smartphone features a 6.3-inch Full-HD+ “dot notch” display with 2340 x 1080 pixels screen resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and 409ppi pixel density. Under the hood, it packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor, clocked at 2.2 GHz and coupled with Adreno 512 GPU.

The phone comes in two variants — 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM. The 3GB RAM model has 32GB internal storage while the 4GB RAM model comes with 64GB internal storage. There’s a microSD card slot for expanding the phone’s storage capacity up to 256GB. We are not sure about the memory variants of the Redmi Note 7S.

Oppo K3 is all set to get launched in China on May 23

Oppo recently launched its all-new Oppo Reno series of flagship smartphones. So far, the company has launched three phones in this lineup — Reno, Reno 10X Zoom Edition, and Reno 5G. It will soon launch fourth device — Oppo Reno Z.

Apart from the Reno lineup, the company is also getting ready to launch a new K-series smartphone in China — Oppo K3. The company has now confirmed that the phone will be launched on 23rd May.

Oppo K3 Launch Date

It is being speculated that the company will be focusing on certain features of the smartphone making it the highlight for the marketing but the pricing will still be aggressive. Since Oppo is revamping its product lineup, the Oppo K3 will define the way forward for the Oppo K-series smartphones.

As per the reports coming from China, the Oppo K3 is expected to be priced between 1,000 yuan and 2,000 yuan. With such pricing, the smartphone will directly compete against the phones from Redmi and Honor.

The smartphone was recently spotted on China Unicom’s product library, which confirmed its full specifications. Oppo K3, which comes with the model number PCGM00, packs a 6.5-inch display with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels.

It is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset, coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. The device also features a dual camera setup on the back, comprising a 16MP + 2MP sensors. For selfies, there is equally a 16MP selfie shooter which will likely sit on a notch, although there are rumors suggesting that the device will have a pop-up selfie shooter.

Coming to the pricing, the upcoming Oppo K3 has been listed for a price of 2199 yuan ($322) for the top-end model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Thus, we find the pricing unbelievable for such specs. The phone is likely to have a 6GB RAM model with cheaper pricing.

Huawei Nova 5, Nova 5i names confirmed; Launch date could be near

In July 2018, Huawei had announced the Kirin 970 SoC powered Nova 3 smartphone and Nova 3i phone fueled by Kirin 659 chipset. Now, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has approved the Nova 5 and Nova 5i smartphones. The EEC listing has also revealed the model numbers of these phones. At the same time, the GLK-AL00 and  GLK-TL00 Chinese variants of the Nova 5i have been spotted on the database of the 3C authority of China.

According to EEC certification, the Nova 5 has a model number of SEA-LX1 whereas the Nova 5i has a model number of GLK-LX1U. The EEC approval of these smartphones hasn’t revealed any information on their specifications. The 3C listing of the Nova 5i reveals that it may come with a 10W charger. This suggests that the Nova 5i could be a mid-range phone with Kirin 710 and it may lack support for fast charging. Nothing else is known about the Nova 5i smartphone.

Recently, XDA’s Mishaal Rahman had revealed some details of the upcoming Kirin 980 SoC powered phones from the company. He had revealed that the SEA-AL10 and SEA-TL10 that are nothing but Chinese editions of the Nova 5 will be arriving with a full HD+ AMOLED display of 6.39 inches. In December 2018, Huawei had released the Nova 4 as its first smartphone with a punch-hole display. There is no confirmation on whether the upcoming Nova 5 will be also equipped with the same display design.

The Huawei Nova 5 could be arriving with a Sony IMX576 25-megapixel selfie camera. It is expected to come packed with a 3,500mAh battery. The rear shell of the phone could be featuring a triple camera system that may include a Sony IMX380 12.3-megapixel lens, a Sony IMX586 48-megapixel lens and a Sony IMX316 ToF sensor.

The case images of the Nova 5 smartphone were leaked recently. The images had revealed that the case does not feature a cutout for a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Considering the fact that the phone is coming with an AMOLED display, it could be featuring an in-screen fingerprint reader. There is also a possibility that the Nova 5 may arrive with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Samsung quietly launches the Galaxy Fit-e smart band, now on pre-order for €40 ($45)

Samsung was earlier reported to be working on a fitness tracker designed for fans who don’t need the full user experience the Gear smartwatch offers but at the same time want a fitness tracker for basic parameters like heart rate, pulse etc. The device dubbed Galaxy Fit-e has now been launched without any fanfare. The Samsung Galaxy Fit-e smart band costs €40 ($45) which is way lesser than the price of the Galaxy Fit.Samsung Galaxy Fit-e

The Galaxy Fit e features a 0.74-inch monochrome PMOLED display. The screen shows the time and a step counter by default, but it can also display notifications and calendar events from your phone. It runs on the Cortex M0 processor with only 128KB of RAM and 4MB of internal storage. The fitness tracker only supports incoming notifications without the option to respond. In addition, the Galaxy Fit-e features automatic motion detection, sleep analysis and heart rate tracking. It crams a 70 mAh battery under the hood and Samsung claims that it is sufficient for 10 days of use on a single charge. It has a built-in heart rate tracker and 5ATM water resistance. In addition, the band weighs only 15 grams and features MIL-STD-810G durability and Bluetooth 5.0 support.Samsung Galaxy Fit-e

OnePlus TV is our Next Focus For India: Vikas Agarwal

OnePlus is all about smartphones right now, but the company is looking to change that in the coming months. CEO Pete Lau had already confirmed that the company was looking to release the OnePlus TV by 2020. Now, OnePlus’ India head, Vikas Agarwal has confirmed that the OnePlus TV would be its next focus for the Indian market.

OnePlus 7 Pro Almond hands on 06
OP7Pro Almond hands on

On the sidelines of the OnePlus 7 Pro launch event held in Bengaluru yesterday, Vikas, while talking to 91Mobiles about diversifying its portfolio of products said, “OnePlus TV is our next focus for the Indian market.” The company has already revealed its plans for a smart TV that will be quite unlike the television sets available in the market today. OnePlus is looking to introduce a smart TV that will run on its AI engine. The TV will be able to easily communicate with a smartphone and become smarter with time, thanks to its AI integration.

The vision for OnePlus’ smart TV sounds a lot like the Huawei TV model that is expected to release later this year. Similar to OnePlus’ TV plan, Huawei’s take on the next generation smart TV is basically a smart display with a very large screen that acts as a TV. Earlier reports said that the Huawei TV would also have a smart assistant on board, something like the Amazon Alexa and will use AI to learn the habits of the user.

Xiaomi’s Mi TV’s are quite popular in India as well!

It looks like both Huawei and OnePlus share the same vision for the next generation smart TV sets. As we enter the 5G age, everything will become smarter and faster so the TV industry will see some solid changes as well.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a timeline for the OnePlus TV launch. All we know is that it’s in development since last year and will meet us by 2020. Vikas’ statement today just confirms that it will launch in India as well, one of the OnePlus’ most important markets right now.

Now, the China-based company has launched yet another variant of the Oppo A3s in the Indian market, which comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It is priced at Rs. 9,990, which roughly converts to $142. It is now available for purchase across the country through major brick and mortar stores.

[Updated] Motorola One Vision is official: Brings CinemaVision Display, 48MP dual camera and an Exynos 9609 SoC

[Update: New info about availability and price in other regions. More details added.]

The Motorola One Vision was announced today at an event in Brazil. The new mid-range device packs some pretty interesting features but its price tag (in Brazil) is on the high side.

The Motorola One Vision’s stand-out feature is its display. It has a 6.3” FHD+ (1080 x 2520) display with a 21:9 aspect ratio which means it is pretty tall. Motorola has named it CinemaVision (similar to Sony’s CinemaVision display) and unlike Sony’s own display, this one has a punch hole. A pretty big one at that. There is a bit of bezel at the bottom of the screen too but that is expected. With the CinemaVision display, you should enjoy the cinematographic experience it provides.

The phone is powered by the Exynos 9609, a 2.2GHz octa-  processor that is paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. A hybrid dual SIM slot will let you swap the second SIM for a MicroSD card (512GB max.).

Another selling point of the Motorola One Vision is its cameras. It has a 48MP f/1.7 Quad Pixel camera with OIS on the back and it is paired with a 5MP f/2.2 depth sensor. The camera has a feature called Night Vision for incredible shots at night similar to the Pixel’s own Night Sight. Other camera features are 8x digital zoom, Portrait mode, Cinemagraph mode, Best Photo, Instant Camera, and YouTube Live mode e.t.c.

Câmera de 48MP com Night Vision

The punch hole is home to a 25MP f/2.0 Quad Pixel selfie camera which also has 8x digital zoom, Cinemagraph mode, Auto HDR, a manual mode, portrait mode, and a YouTube Live mode. The phone is an Android One device, so you get Google Photos as the default gallery app and free backup of high-quality photos.

The Motorola One Vision runs Android 9 Pie and has Motorola-exclusive features (Moto Actions). Motorola says the phone will get updated to Android Q and Android R and will receive security updates for 3 years starting from its launch this month.

There is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. It packs a 3500mAh battery with support for TurboPower ultra-fast charge.

Design

Reducing bezels is one of the main trends in the whole smartphones market: OnePlus 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10+ do it in the greatest way. The former comes with a pop-up front camera, while the latter has a punch-hole display. Thanks to these solutions, the displays are almost full-screen without the need of a notch, unlike the Huawei P30 Pro which comes with a standard waterdrop design. I would personally go for the Samsung Galaxy S10+ because the look is not the only thing which matters in my opinion: unlike the OnePlus 7 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S10+ is waterproof with the IP68 certification, while the OnePlus 7 Pro does not provide any kind of IP certification for water resistance.

Display

This year, OnePlus did a huge step forward in terms of display quality. The OnePlus 7 Pro has the first QHD+ display ever seen on a OnePlus device, and it even supports the HDR10+ technology for amazing color reproduction. The same is for the Galaxy S10+, but some may prefer the OnePlus 7 Pro because it has a higher 90 Hz refresh rate (very nice for multimedia and gaming) and a bigger size. On the paper, the OnePlus 7 Pro looks way more interesting, but in order to give a definitive opinion, we have to test both the displays thoroughly in order to fully evaluate the differences between their color reproduction, contrast, brightness, and more.

Hardware/Software

Unfortunately, Huawei P30 Pro loses even when it comes to the hardware and performance. Samsung Galaxy S10+ and OnePlus 7 Pro are faster thanks to their more powerful Snapdragon 855 chipset, as well as a higher quantity of RAM in its most expensive memory configurations. Samsung Galaxy S10+ has even a variant with more internal storage: up to 1 TB. But unlike the OnePlus 7 Pro which comes with a light Android fork that is close to the stock one, the Samsung Galaxy S10+ has a heavier and more customized user interface, just like the Huawei P30 Pro.

Camera

Most people prefer the Huawei P30 Pro’s camera performances for two reasons: better performances in low light conditions and an awesome 5x optical zoom which pushes the digital zoom up to 50x. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S10+ clicks better photos with good light thanks to its more realistic and less washed out colors. OnePlus 7 Pro is more or less at the same level as the Samsung Galaxy S10 with its triple camera, but I think the Galaxy S10+ is slightly better on most of the scenarios.

Battery

Huawei P30 Pro has the biggest battery, even though there is just 100-200 mAh of difference compared to its rivals. But despite the slight difference, the Huawei P30 Pro provides a way longer battery life thanks to its efficient components and its lower display resolution. And, unlike the OnePlus 7 Pro, it features wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

Price

Huawei P30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10+ listing prices start from €999/$1120 and €1050/$1177, respectively, but you can currently get them for less than €800/$900 easily. OnePlus 7 Pro carries a price which starts from €700/$670. Despite OnePlus 7 Pro is an incredibly fast phone and it has a lot of improvements such as better display, camera, and fast charging technology, call me unpopular but I would personally go for the Samsung Galaxy S10+ because unlike the OP7 Pro it does not lack any ground-breaking feature (such as an IP certification and wireless charging) and any top-end specification.

Youle LOVExtend is a 3-in-1 power bank + flashlight + grocery bag holder

Xiaomi’s crowdfunding platform has a new and interesting product. The Youle LOVExtend is a 3-in-1 device that works as a power bank, a flashlight, and a grocery bag carrier.

Youle LOVExtend

The device is manufactured by one of Xiaomi’s ecosystem companies, Yule Life (Shenzhen) Technology Co. Ltd. It has an ABS body which houses a 3000mAh portable battery bank for charging your phone. The power bank has a 5V/1A input and output port. That is pretty slow by current charging standards but the aim is to provide emergency power when your phone is almost out of juice.

Latest Zenfone 6 teaser confirms 5000mAh battery, mocks OnePlus 7

The Zenfone 6 is shaping up to be the new flagship killer. Earlier today renders of the phone leaked, revealing the flagship phone will have a notch-less display and motorized dual rear cameras that double as front-facing cameras. Yesterday, ASUS actually confirmed an important feature of the phone via its Twitter account.

The Zenfone 6 has been rumored to pack a 5,000mAh battery and yesterday the Taiwanese manufacturer confirmed the rumors. The new ASUS flagship will indeed pack a massive 5000mAh battery, making it the second flagship phone released this year with such a large battery capacity. The first is the Nubia Red Magic 3 gaming smartphone.

ASUS not only confirmed the battery capacity but mocked that of the OnePlus 7 in the same breath. The OnePlus 7 has a 3,700mAh battery which pales in comparison to that of the Zenfone 6′. Even the OnePlus 7 Pro’s 4000mAh battery closes the gap just a little.

OnePlus 6T gets a price cut to $549 after OnePlus 7 Pro launch

OnePlus launched the new OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro yesterday at simultaneous launch events in New York, London and Bengaluru. The new devices carry various new advancements such as the presence of Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, triple camera module, UFS 3.0 storage and a new fluid AMOLED display. Unlike the OnePlus 6 launch last year, OnePlus’s old flagship aka OnePlus 6T is still available at stores with a huge discount.

OnePlus 6T Fingerprint Sensor

To leverage the smartphone’s value, OnePlus will reduce the price of 8 GB RAM + 128 GB internal storage version to $549 from $579. Whereas, the 256 GB internal storage variant will be down to $600 from $629. The new pricing will get into effect from May 17 at OnePlus online store.

The OnePlus 6T is the only viable option for the price-conscious buyers as OnePlus 7 won’t make its way to the US. The OnePlus 7 will retail at the same price as the OnePlus 6T, outside the US. It’s a value for money deal for those who always buy old flagships at cheaper prices.

OnePlus 6T is powered with Snapdragon 845 chipset and is available in 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage variants. It features a 6.41-inch display with the resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. There’s a 3700 mAh battery carrying support for Dash Charging technology.

Both the OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 7 are identical to each other in terms of design: there’s a dual rear camera, a fixed front camera, and on-screen fingerprint reader. Though, OnePlus 7 is a bit faster as it comes with the latest Snapdragon 855 SoC, UFS 3.0 storage and a 48 MP camera.

Oppo could launch under-display camera smartphone this year

Bringing ultimate viewing experience is the primary goal for most of the smartphone manufacturers since recent times. Different approaches like dew drop notch, pop-up slider are developed to uplift the viewing experience on smartphones. The Chinese smartphone maker – Oppo is also coming with a new yet different approach. It could launch a new under-display camera smartphone this year, reveals a popular tipster Ben Geskin via his Twitter account.

However, Mr Geskin also shared an image of an unknown smartphone along with the new announcement. He didn’t mention any other detail about the device. The new phone might come with thin bezels, sliding camera mechanism, and will sport a design similar to devices with pop-up cameras.

Much like the under-display fingerprint sensor, the upcoming Oppo smartphone will feature a new camera underneath the phone’s display. Oppo’s success with the new camera technology will open doors for the vast majority of the smartphone manufactures. It will help them to save the smartphone’s basic design model.

Samsung and a few other manufacturers are also working on a similar technology to hide the front cameras. Samsung’s R&D department vice president stated that “The technology can move forward to the point where the camera hole will be invisible, while not affecting the camera’s function in any way.” Few patents related to the underneath cameras have appeared at the trademark registration offices in some countries.

Only a few months are left before the launch of new hardware later this year.
