HTC Exodus 1s unveiled with improved full-node Bitcoin capability

HTC introduced a new blockchain smartphone – the Exodus 1s for crypto enthusiasts on a tight budget. The Exodus 1s is the successor to the company’s first generation blockchain smartphone – Exodus 1.

The Exodus 1s allows users to save tokens and cryptographic keys inside a secure enclave within the device. As like of the Exodus 1, some other features like the support for decentralized mobile applications and integration with Opera crypto browser also appeared in the Exodus 1s.

Phil Chen, chief officer, HTC said, “We are democratizing access to the technology for a free world. Full nodes are the most important ingredient in the resilience of the Bitcoin network, and we have lowered the barrier to entry for any person to run a node, which is simply a computer, mobile in our case, participating in a global Bitcoin network that propagates transactions and blocks everywhere, which is the foundation and fundamental definition of a peer-to-peer cash system.”

An Exodus 1 exclusive feature of providing full Bitcoin node capability is improved in the new model. For a device to act as a Bitcoin node, it has to keep a log of the entire blockchain history, which means the device has to store 200GB of data. HTC knows about this and employed the Exodus 1s with a method called pruning to solve this issue. Pruning reduces the size of the blockchain file by a huge margin – 200 GB to 10 GB.

HTC Exodus 1s supports HTC’s Zion wallet app to send, receive or request cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ether, and Ethereum based ERC-20 and ERC-721 tokens.

The company hasn’t revealed the specifications or the price tag of the Exodus 1s. Its predecessor is available at $600, and the company plans to launch Exodus 1s at almost half of that. We don’t know the exact release date of the smartphone yet, but the company has hinted release in the third quarter of 2019.

Huawei and Samsung settles 8-year long lawsuits over standard-essential patents in China

This seems like a season of lawsuit settlements in the tech world. After Apple and Qualcomm announced the settlement of their lawsuits which was called the biggest court battle in the tech world in recent times, it’s now Huawei and Samsung who have reached a settlement for an 8-year long lawsuit.

According to the reports, through a litigation mediation of the Higher People’s Court of Guangdong Province, Huawei Technologies and Samsung (China) Investment have reached a settlement for a series of infringement disputes related to the standard-essential patents.

Huawei vs Samsung

For the cross-licensing of standard-essential patents worldwide, both the companies have developed a framework of the Patent Licensing Agreement and all the relevant litigations have been resolved. The companies have also started withdrawing their complaints.

Reports indicate that both the companies have been trying to conduct negotiations since 2011 or the patent cross-licensing but it didn’t materialize until now. In the past eight years, the companies filed over 40 lawsuits.

Earlier last year, in January, Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court ruled in favor of Huawei and said that Samsung‘s 4G mobile phone produced and sold in China infringed Huawei’s two patents. However, Samsung immediately appealed to the Guangdong High Court.

Now, under the constant mediation through the Guangdong High Court, Huawei and Samsung have finally reached a settlement. However, the specific conditions for this settlement have not been disclosed yet.

Renders and specs of the Honor 20 confirms punch hole display and quad cameras

The Honor 20 series launch is exactly a week away. The lineup will include the Honor 20 and the Honor 20 Pro. Ahead of the launch, renders and specs of the Honor 20 have surfaced on the web, thanks to Winfuture.de.

Honor 20 featured

The Honor 20 will have an IPS-LCD display that skips the notch for a punch hole. The display which is 6.26-inches is smaller than that of the Honor View 20. It has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 and a pixel density of 412. There is a slit in the frame above the display for the earpiece and there is a slightly thick chin.

The flagship is powered by the Kirin 980 and is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There will likely be other configurations but the above if for Europe. There is no mention of storage expansion and we do not expect one since the Honor 10 and Honor View 20 do not have one.

As revealed in a leak by Twitter user @Rodent950, the Honor 20 has a quad camera setup and these new renders not only confirm that but also the design. Three of the camera sensors are stacked on top of one another and share the same housing with the LED flash. The fourth sensor is on the right of the third camera. Written on the back of the phone is “48MP AI VISION”.

[envira-gallery id=”253180″]

The primary camera is a 48MP sensor, and it is paired with a 16MP Super Wide Angle camera, a 2MP Depth Assist camera, and a 2MP Macro camera for macro photography. The front-facing camera is reported to be a 32MP sensor.

The Honor 20 doesn’t have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. It also does not have an in-display fingerprint scanner since it is an IPS-LCD display. Honor has settled for a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that doubles as the power button.

Leaked Galaxy Fold user manual includes several new warnings based on recent feedbacks

The Galaxy Fold release, which was put off by Samsung following a number of issues that were encountered by early users, may finally be happening soon. The Galaxy Fold user manual for the AT&T version has leaked in the Korean media, and it does indeed contain a number of warnings based on the issues that were encountered.

One of such is a warning not to peel off the top layer of the device as it is an integral part of the display. This is actually the same warning that was present on the outer wrapper of the retail box, as was showcased by T-Mobile’s marketing head honcho Desmond Smith earlier on. The warning reads, “ATTENTION – The main screen includes a special protective layer. Peeling off the protective layer or using any adhesives on the main screen, such as screen protectors or stickers, may cause damage.” Thus, Samsung not only put the warning on the retail box but in the manual in order to apparently ensure it is not missed by anyone.Samsung Galaxy Fold

Apart from that, Samsung also included a note on the user manual which notifies users that the crease in the middle of the display at the point where the device unfolds is normal. Here’s the notification; “NOTE: You may notice a crease at the center of the Main screen. This is normal characteristic of the device. When folding the device, make sure that no objects are placed between the screens.Galaxy Fold

The report also revealed that Samsung will try and release the Fold next month (June) in order to beat the Mate X launch in July. It has allegedly been postponing the launch in order to better train the reps on presenting the device and teach potential buyers how to use the phone. Like, for instance, not to scrape off the cover film which turned out to be an integral part of the flexible display underneath, even though it does not completely wrap around and fuse with the panel at the edges, making it look like a screen protector of sorts.

Google explains the existence of Pixel 3a headphone jack; It won’t get Android Q Beta access until June

Google recently unveiled the affordable Pixel smartphone series – Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL at the Google I/O 2019 developer conference. Both the devices feature mid-range specifications like Snapdragon 670 processor, 6GB RAM, and 64GB internal storage. Despite these specifications, the Pixel 3a carries a feature which Pixel 3 does not have, and that is the 3.5 mm audio jack.

In an interview, Google product manager Soniya Jobanputra explained different changes in the Pixel 3a series. Similarly, she described the existence of headphone jack on the Pixel 3a series and said, “We debated on this headphone jack, but we really felt that consumers at this price point, in this price tier, really needed flexibility and that’s what that headphone jack gives you.”

In other words, it appears some officials at the Google premises believe that the customers of Pixel 3a series can’t afford Bluetooth headphones. A 3.5mm jack allows users to leverage existing headphones without the need for USB-C adapter.

However, Google will keep facilitating the standard Pixel devices with the digital audio as it is the “the ultimate way to consume your audio.”

pixel 3a

Google suspended the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL from the official Android Q beta support. The reason behind it is unknown, but the devices will remain on the March Security update until next month. The formal OTA upgrade is suspended until June, whereas users can still sideload the OTA image from the Android Developers page. Despite being not eligible, some Pixel 3a users successfully managed to sign-up for the Android Beta program.

In recent times, the safety of electric cars has been called to question after a few electric vehicles went up in flames in separate incidence. Just last Sunday, a Tesla Model S was reported to have caught fire in a parking lot in Hong Kong. It took firefighters over 45minutes to battle the raging inferno before they were able to put out the blaze.Tesla Model S

Bloomberg reports that the cause of the fire is yet to be revealed and Tesla is even yet to make a formal statement about the incident.  However, the fire incident bears a similar pattern with previous cases. Less than a month ago, a Model S spontaneously caught fire in a Shanghai parking garage. The fire resulted in the destruction of several adjourning cars. A few days after this, an electric car manufactured by Chinese start-up Nio was reported to have caught fire while undergoing repairs in the central Chinese city of Xi’an.

Apart from China, there have been a few reported cases of Tesla EVs going up in flames in the US. Lenovo unveils prototype of a laptop featuring a foldable screen

After working on the technology for years, the foldable smartphones are finally here. Samsung and Huawei have launched their foldable smartphones and will soon be available for purchase. Other smartphone makers are also working on their own foldable smartphones which could go official later this year.

Interestingly, Lenovo has now unveiled a foldable screen device but it’s not a smartphone. The company has showcased a laptop that features a foldable screen. The device, named ThinkPad X1 is a prototype and was showcased at the company’s annual sales event. It aims to show the direction of where the future of computing is heading.

It’s a long way before the product gets commercialized as there are various aspects of the device that needs to be addressed. For instance, the China-based company is still figuring out how a physical keyboard will fit into the computer.

The prototype of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 foldable screen laptop has a hinge that allows the screen to be sturdily tilted up to a variety of viewing angles when it folds into the shape of a traditional laptop. It has a 13.3-inch high-resolution display and is running Microsoft‘s Windows operating system.

Lenovo is planning to take its time for releasing this product and the company said that it has been working on the device for the last three years and doesn’t plan to release it until 2020, presumably hoping to avoid a fate like the Galaxy Fold.

Samsung launched its ambitious foldable smartphone Galaxy Fold earlier this year. Just when the phone was about to go on sale, the South Korean giant had to postpone the launch because of the early feedback regarding the display-related issues. The company is yet announced a new launch date for the Galaxy Fold.
