OPPO’s Realme brand first took the wraps off the entry-level Realme C1 2019 during the launch of the Realme 2 Pro in India last month. The device only went on sale for the first time a couple of days back. Realme brand has now announced via its Twitter handle that the device will go on its second today (Friday).
The affordable smartphone which is promoted with the slogan “Entertainment Ka Boss” will be on sale from 12 pm IST. This was made known by the company on Twitter but it wasn’t indicated where the sales would happen. Never mind though, as the Realme C1 is sold exclusively on Flipkart in India. As for the pricing, the 2GB RAM variant is priced at Rs. 7,499 (approximately $105) while the 3GB RAM model is priced at Rs. 8,499 (approximately $119).
The Realme C1 2019 features a 6.2-inch IPS LCD notched display with HD+ resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device is powered by the modest Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset and is available in 2GB+32GB and 3GB+32GB variants. Lenovo-owned Motorola has officially taken the wraps off the Moto G7 series lineup comprising the Moto G7, G7 Plus, G7 Play and G7 Power. The Mot G series is a very popular series and has garnered quite a sizeable number of lower followers for the brand. The popularity isn’t unconnected to their nice designs and affordable pricing. The four new models range from budget phones like the Moto G7 Play and big battery-packing G7 Power to premium midrange models like the G7 and G7 Plus.
Before now, almost all the features and design of the models have been in the open via leaks but let’s still take a quick look at the specifications of the models. One interesting point to note is that all four G7 series models will runGoogle’s latest Android 9.0 Pie OS from the go and support storage expansion via microSD card. The models also feature USB Type-C port and 3.5mm audio jack which is impressive.
Moto G7 Play Specifications & Features
The Moto G7 Play takes over the rein from the Moto G6 Play which happened to be one of the phones with the longest-lasting battery in 2018 with its battery lasting up to two days. experience for most people. The G7 Play isn’t a battery monster, a title the G7 Power has claimed, but the G7 Play’s focus is on affordability. The Moto G7 Play packs a 3000mAh battery unlike a 4000mAh cell on last year’s G6 Play.
The device sports a 5.7-inch display with an HD resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels. The phone has a big notch at the top just like the one made popular by the iPhone X. The Moto G7 Play is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset. The processor is paired with 2GB of RAM which is the only available option, at least for now. The device also comes with 32GB of storage which is expandable as earlier stated. On the camera end, the device packs a single 13MP rear camera while for selfies, there is an 8MP front camera.
As for the pricing, the Moto G7 Play is priced at $200 which isn’ really cheap as there are far better options at that price range. The model will launch unlocked in the US this spring. In a short while after the official launch, Motorola will make the G7 Play available on Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Republic Wireless and Ting.
Moto G7 Power Specifications & Features
Just like the name implies, the Moto G7 Power is all about battery power. The model packs a mammoth 5,000mAh battery under its hood. Unfortunately, that is where it all ends as the rest of its specs don’t really tickle. Just like the G7 Play, it is equipped with a Snapdragon 632 chipset but has 3GB of RAM inside. The storage option is still a 32GB expandable storage only.
Moto G7 Power
In addition, the Moto G7 Power sports a 6.2-inch display with HD resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels. The display still features a similar wide notch as seen on the G7 Play. The G7 Power priced at $250 and will be available unlocked in the United States starting this spring. The same scenario will still play out shortly after initial availability as it will also arrive on carriers, including T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, Cricket Wireless (as the Moto G7 Supra), Consumer Cellular, Republic Wireless, Ting and Xfinity Mobile.
Moto G7
The Moto G7 can be described as the flagship in the budget series. Don’t get it wrong, the G7 is not a flagship model but its features and specs are way enhanced than the G7 Play and G7 Power. The Moto G7 may turn out as the star of this series as it offers the best balance of price to performance in the series.
Moto G7
The Moto G7 does not have a big notch like the two cheaper models but instead, it utilises the more acceptable water drop or teardrop notch. The G7 packs a 6.2-inch display with Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2270 pixels that is definitely sharper than those of the former two. The G7 still features a Snapdragon 632 chipset but it is paired with 4GB of RAM while there is 64GB of expandable storage onboard. The Moto G7 is available in two colours; ceramic black and clear white. On the camera end, it features a dual camera setup at its rear side comprising a 12MP+5MP combo.
Moto G7
As for the pricing, the G7 starting price will be $300 in the United States and the phone will arrive this spring unlocked first at Best Buy, B&H Photo, Walmart and Amazon. Later on, the G7 will also be launched on Google Fi, Republic Wireless and Ting. International customers will be able to buy the G7 even earlier as the phone was launched in Brazil and Mexico today. It will be arriving in Europe in mid-February and to the rest of the world in March.
Moto G7 Plus
The Moto G7 Plus is enhanced over the other three models in several aspects even though the design looks like the G7. The model packs a 6.24-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 2270 pixels. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor paired with 4GB of RAM while there is 64GB of storage onboard. On the camera end, the G7 Plus also packs a dual rear camera setup, 16MP + 5MP combo while for selfies, there is a 12MP sensor.
Moto G7 Plus
The G7 Plus comes in two colour options; Viva Red and Deep Indigo. In addition, the phone will have a 27-watt fast charging that will give you 12 hours of power with just 15 minutes of charge. For pricing, the Moto G7 Plus will have a $300 Euro price tag. It won’t be sold in the US but will hit Europe and other regions soon.
The US government is massively pushing for countries over the world to shun Huawei‘s 5G equipment. That move has already seen some countries like Australia, New Zealand, Japan lock out the world’s largest telecommunication equipment manufacturer from their 5G plans. Although there has been no evidence that Huawei has or will ever provide the Chinese government with user data, the company’s troubles got bigger in Poland recently when Huawei’s sales director was arrested alongside a Polish employee of telecom company Orange for spying.
That alleged offence is now making the Polish government consider banning Huawei from providing the country’s 5G equipment. But in a bid to avoid this, Huawei has offered to open a security-testing facility in Poland, if the authorities will agree to that. The company made this offer during a press conference on Wednesday. According to Huawei Poland chief, Tonny Bao, the Chinese company is ready to establish a cybersecurity centre in Poland if authorities accept that as a trusted solution. Another executive also added that Poland’s government had no reason to lock Huawei out of 5G deployments.
Huawei has utilised this security model in some countries in order to affirm its trustworthiness and it has been successful. Last year, the company opened one in Bonn, Germany, and next month it’s due to launch a lab at the very hear of EU-level policymaking – that is in Brussels, Belgium. The facilities are such that telecommunications network operators can come in and test Huawei’s equipment. In addition, Huawei owns a facility in the U.K. called the Huawei Cyber Security Evaluation Centre (HCSEC) and which was established nine years ago. The UK facility operates on another level, giving British intelligence workers, who comprise some of the staff there, the opportunity to examine Huawei’s equipment.
Unless you are an advanced user or you want to use your smartphone for productivity and photography, in 2019 a midrange device is probably enough for you. The last-generation mid-rangers are usually the recommended ones due to their updated software and higher-end specs. Among the latest relevant ones, there are definitely the Samsung Galaxy M20, the Lenovo S5 Pro GT and the Huawei P Smart 2019. Three devices that hitten the market with affordable prices and well-balanced specs sheets. If you want to get one of them but you are unsure about which one to choose, here is a complete specs comparison.

Design
A lot of midrange smartphones owners have to deal with ugly aesthetics or cheap materials. It is not the case with the Huawei P Smart (2019) that comes with a design similar to flagships. It has a very beautiful glass back with gradient colors, as well as a borderless display coming with a minimal dewdrop notch. Lenovo S5 Pro GT is not as beautiful as the Huawei P Smart 2019, but it comes with a more solid build quality due to its full metal unibody design. Further, it has an IR face recognition system and stereo speakers making the design uglier but improving the functionalities. Samsung Galaxy M20 comes with the highest screen-to-body ratio, but i do not like its body too much and Huawei P Smart 2019 is definitely better aesthetically.
Display
Besides having the most beautiful design, Huawei P Smart (2019) has also a display with the most advanced technologies that can deliver a better viewing quality. Lenovo S5 Pro GT is at the same level, but it has a way bigger notch that looks a bit anachronistic. Despite that, I prefer the Lenovo S5 Pro GT as a multimedia phone because it features louder stereo speakers that can guarantee a better experience with videos. Even though it has narrower bezels, Samsung Galaxy M20 takes the last place when it comes to display and multimedia.
Specs & Software
The Kirin 710 chipset found on the Huawei P Smart (2019) is the one which proved to a more powerful chipset compared to the Exynos 7904 on the Galaxy M20. However, Huawei P Smart (2019) comes with max 3 GB of RAM, that is not so much to push that chipset to the top. So for multi-tasking lovers, Galaxy M20 may result better. But overall I would choose the Lenovo S5 Pro GT because it comes with the more powerful Snapdragon 660. It is also the only one to sport up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. And besides over-classing the performance levels of the Kirin 710 in the most demanding scenarios, it is also very efficient in terms of energy consumption.
Camera
Lenovo S5 Pro GT has the most unique and surprising camera department. On the rear side, it has a dual setup with 12 and 20 MP sensors that can perform 2x optical zoom without losing details. On the front side, unlike its opponents, it boasts another dual camera that consists of a main 20 MP sensor and a depth sensor to enhance the bokeh effect with selfies. The second place goes to Samsung Galaxy M20 which comes with the classic main sensor + depth sensor configuration on the back, but it captures bright shots.
Battery
Given its much bigger battery (5000 mAh!) and the usual software optimization by Samsung, we believe that Samsung Galaxy M20 will have up to twice the battery life of Lenovo S5 Pro GT and Huawei P Smart 2019, at least in some scenarios. That does not mean that its rivals have short battery life, but Samsung Galaxy M20 is one of the longest-lasting phones on a single charge so far.
Price
Lenovo S5 Pro GT wins the comparison due to its better performances, excellent cameras and useful additional features such as stereo speakers and IR face recognition. It costs about €200/$226, while Samsung Galaxy M20 debuted in China for €150/$170 and Huawei P Smart 2019 costs about €250/$285.
Qualcomm has unveiled a brand new processor. The new Snapdragon 712 joins the Snapdragon 710 under the Snapdragon 7 series.
The Snapdragon 712 is a 10nm chipset with 8 x Kryo 360 cores clocked at 2.3GHz. The GPU and DSP are also the same Adreno 616 and Hexagon 685 in the Snapdragon 710.
The new SoC brings support for Quick Charge 4+, support for 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 60GHz WiFi bands. It also brings support for Qualcomm’s TrueWireless™ Stereo Plus technology and Qualcomm® Broadcast Audio technology.
The Snapdragon 712 still has the same Cat. 15 LTE as the Snapdragon 710. Maximum camera and display support have also not changed. Below is a table that shows the differences between the new Snapdragon 712 and the Snapdragon 710:
Samsung has a new smartwatch which we expect it will unveil at its Unpacked event in a few weeks. Originally thought to be the Galaxy Watch Sport, new details have revealed it will actually launch as the Galaxy Watch Active. The specifications of the watch have also surfaced.
The official name of the watch was found by an XDA Developer member – deadman96385, while the specs were found in the watch’s firmware files.
The Galaxy Watch Active runs Tizen 4.0.0.3 and has the model number SM-R500 which seems to be lower than that of the Gear Sport (SM-R600). Notwithstanding, the Active does come with some upgrades over the Gear Sport.
The display is slightly larger at 1.3-inches but keeps the same 360 x 360 resolution. It is powered by an Exynos 9110 processor. It also has a speaker, NFC for Samsung Pay but no MST support, and a 230mAh battery. The battery is small when compared to that of the Gear Sport but XDA says it might be that of a smaller model. A larger model may pack a bigger battery.
The Galaxy Watch Active will have an LTE model. There is even a report of a dual e-SIM model. The watch has a heart rate sensor but the firmware files didn’t say anything about a blood pressure monitor. It has a glove mode, Bixby Assistant, Back and Menu buttons, and even a gyroscope.
Essential Phone, which was well talked but didn’t fare well in terms of sales, is reportedly working on its successor, dubbed Essential PH-2. Now, new details have surfaced online, revealing the phone’s display information and design.
According to the latest report, a new set of drawings have surfaced online, which suggests that the smartphone will come with a display that can go transparent, getting rid of all the notches and moving parts on the device.
The patent design further suggests that the Essential Phone PH-2 will have at least one camera sensor and one light sensor placed under the display. The report suggests that device will come with an OLED panel and become semitransparent on command when selfie camera is opened.
There’s also a second set of drawings which reveals that the handset will have an under-display fingerprint sensor, something which most of the flagship smartphones are now offering. It’s noteworthy that the name PH-2 was earlier spotted in a document of a US smartphone carrier but no other details related to the device are known at this time.
We are also expecting the smartphone to come with a near stock version of the latest Android operating system, which in this case could be the Android 9 Pie. We also expect the phone to come powered by Qualcomm’s flagship chipset.
Recently, it was reported that the company is working on a second device, which the company labeled as a “mobile product”. However, this second device might possibly be the leaked tiny phone that employs AI (artificial intelligence) to answer text messages and e-mails.
Currently, there is no word regarding the launch timeline of the smartphone. However, it’s highly unlikely that the patented device is the same device that was recently reported to have an AI-powered system to answer messages.
Essential launched its first phone, the PH-1 more than a year ago, which didn’t do well due to a number of issues. Earlier reports indicated that the company canceled plans of a successor and even suspended some other hardware devices it had in development. However, it seems that the situation has changed and the company has now kicked-off development.
The ZTEAxon 9 Pro which launched last year wasn’t as popular as its predecessor, the Axon 7. It also ran stock Android (Android 8.1 Oreo) out of the box instead of ZTE’s MiFavor UI.
ZTE Axon 9 Pro Android 9 Pie beta will also bring MiFavor 9 UI
Two months after its release, ZTE has begun registration for an Android Pie beta program for users in China that also brings MiFavor 9. Interested participants are invited to sign up here with details such as their IMEI, WeChat ID, and phone number.
Registration for the beta update program began a few weeks ago but it appears no one has received the update yet which is supposed to arrive as an OTA. Nevertheless, we expect the update will bring a bunch of new MiFavor features other than those of Android 9 itself to the Axon 9 Pro.
The Axon 9 Pro was launched at IFA back in August but didn’t go on sale until November. It has a 6.21-inch AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2248 resolution and support for HDR10. It is powered by the Snapdragon 845 which is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.
LG will be unleashing the LG G8 ThinQ flagship phone through its Feb. 24 event at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 tech trade show in Barcelona, Spain. Some rumors have claimed that the company may launch a 5G enabled LG V50 ThinQ smartphone alongside the LG G8 ThinQ. Today, Tiger Mobiles publication has shared fresh information on an entry-level smartphone from LG called the K12+. It has leaked a render and key specifications of the LG K12+ smartphone. There is a possibility that the South Korean company may also announce it at the MWC 2019.
The LG K12+ will be equipped with a display that will deliver HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. The exact size of the smartphone’s screen is not known. The display resolution suggests that it will be featuring a notch-less 18:9 aspect ratio.
The render of the phone leaked the publication shows that its screen is surrounded by thick bezels from all sides. There is no image showing the rear design of the phone.
The MediaTek MT6762 better known as Helio P22 chipset will be powering the LG K12+. The same chipset also powers some of the recent entry-level smartphones from other companies such as Vivo Y93s, Nokia 3.1, Xiaomi Redmi 6 and so on. The SoC of the LG K12+ is accompanied by 3 GB of RAM. The smartphone will come preloaded with Android 8.1 Oreo OS. There is no information available on other specs of the K12+.
The LG K12+ moniker suggests that it will be arriving as the successor for the LG K11+ smartphone that was announced last year in July. The K11+ featured 5.3-inch HD 16:9 display, MediaTek MT6750 SoC, 2 GB / 3 GB RAM, 16 GB / 32 GB storage, 13-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual camera, 5-megapixel front camera and 3,000mAh battery. The specs of the K11+ suggests that the K12+ could be coming with 32 GB of storage, dual rear cameras and a similar sized battery. In some markets, the predecessor model was launched as LG K11 Plusv and its 2 GB RAM + 16 GB model was released as LG K11α. Hence, the LG K12+ may arrive with other monikers in different countries.
A recent report had revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S10 will be equipped with an improved selfie camera that may carry support for OIS and 4K video shooting. The LG G8 ThinQ will be debuting soon as a good rival for the Galaxy S10. Through a press release, LG has revealed some key features of the selfie camera of the LG G8 ThinQ flagship phone that will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019. It has confirmed that the phone will be equipped with a 3D ToF (Time of Flight) selfie camera.
LG has collaborated with Germany based Infineon Technologies for G8 ThinQ’s 3D ToF camera. For adding depth to the selfie shots, smartphone OEMs make use of software-based complex algorithms to calculate the distance between the subject in a selfie image and the camera sensor. On the other side, a ToF camera measures the depth on the basis of the time taken for an infrared light to reach the subject and return to the camera sensor. Hence, ToF works well in ambient light which reduces the pressure from the application processor. This helps in reducing the power consumption on the device.
Because of the fast response of the ToF sensor, it can be also used for facial scanning. The ToF camrea can see objects in 3D because of which it is not affected by light emitted by external sources. This in turn assists in accurate facial recognition in dim-light conditions. Hence, the G8 ThinQ is expected to carry support for facial authentication through its ToF selfie camera. The presence of the ToF sensor will allow the G8 ThinQ to be used in AR and VR applications.
Compared to structured lighting system for 3D facial recognition on Apple iPhones, a ToF sensor is cheaper and easier to manufacture. The press release further states that the G8 ThinQ will be a premium smartphone that will deliver unmatched camera capabilities.
The G8 ThinQ is rumored to feature a notched display and its rumored to arrive with triple rear cameras. The Snapdragon 855 chipset is expected to power the upcoming LG flagship. The SoC could be supported by 6 GB of RAM. LG has already confirmed that the device will support sort of touch-less gesture controls. It could be packed with a 3,500mAh battery.
The Vivo V15 Pro full specification has appeared in the latest leak. While most of the specs of the phone have appeared in the recent reports, two of the key details such as the size of the display and battery capacity have now been leaked. Moreover, the price tag of the smartphone has also appeared in the new leak.
Vivo V15 Pro Specifications (Rumors)
Fresh information reveals that the Vivo V15 Pro will be fitted with a Super AMOLED display of 6.39 inches that will produce full HD+ resolution. The marvelous notch-less screen of the handset could be advertised as “Ultra FullView Display.”
As the Geekbench listing of the smartphone have revealed, the Vivo V15 Pro will be featuring the Snapdragon 675. Probably, it could end up as the first phone to debut in India with the SD675 SoC. The new chip will be accompanied by 6 GB of RAM. The smartphone may feature an internal storage of 128 GB. Like the predecessor Vivo V11 Pro handset, it is also likely to carry support for microSD card slot.
For photography, the Vivo V15 Pro will be gracing a 32-megapixel pop-up selfie camera. The AI driven triple camera setup on the rear will be featuring a 48-megapixel primary sensor along with 8-megapixel and 5-megapixel lenses. Rumors have it that it could be featuring Samsung’s ISOCELL GM1 as the primary sensor. It is the very sensor that is available on smartphones like Samsung Galaxy A8s, Huawei Nova 4 and Redmi Note 7. The V11 Pro has a 3,400mAh battery, but the V15 Pro is expected to arrive with a larger battery of 3,700mAh capacity. It is expected to be equipped with support for dual-engine fast charging.
Previous reports have claimed that the Vivo V15 Pro will be priced between Rs. 25,000 (~$350) and Rs. 30,000 (~$420). However, the new leak claims that the V15 cost may as high as Rs. 33,000 (~$460). The phone will be available for purchase with some bank offers and cashback.
Vivo is expected to launch the Vivo V15 phone along with V15 Pro. However, there is no information available on the specs of the V15. It could be priced between Rs. 20,000 (~$280) and Rs. 25,000 (~$350). The pre-orders of these phones are rumored to start on Feb. 15 in India ahead of the Feb. 20 launch event.
Apple’s iOS platform get applaud for its secure environment, but nowadays it is also losing its sheen. In a recent analysis by TheAppAnalyst, a mobile expert has found that some popular iOS apps are recording your screen. Major companies such as Hollister, Expedia, Air Canada, Fitch, and other traveling and tourism-related apps are recording your screen secretly with any consent.
Earlier, the apps tend to record the cookies, user data for the sake of analytics and monetization. Now, they have moved a step ahead and started to record the whole screen without knowing the users. The favorite iPhone apps are recording every action on your phone, along with confidential information. These apps are not even masking the information such as passport number, credit card, and other sensitive data.
The significant chunk of apps like Abercrombie & Fitch use the third party technologies from Glassbox to record the”session replay” technology. In detail, the “session replay” technology allows the companies to play and record the screen. It gives the companies to look at how the user is interacting with the app to improve the app.
Recently, the source said that they have found Air Canda’s iPhone app was recording screen without properly masking the confidential data. It was exposing the user’s passport number, credit card details and sensitive data tot he companies via replay sessions. In a blog post, TheAppAnalayst expert said that “This gives Air Canada employees — and anyone else capable of accessing the screenshot database — to see unencrypted credit card and password information.”
Further, no other app was found to be not masking the sensitive app. The App Analyst used the Charles Proxy, a man-in-the-middle tool used to intercept the data sent. Although as a result, he found that the data is often transmitted back to Glassbox servers rather than the appropriate app server. In the end, he said that it is impossible to know if an app is recording the screen or not. Even the following apps have not cleared about the screen recording in their policies.
Now, Apple has to amend some policies to let users know what is happening on their devices and how Apps are using the data.
