At this year’s Mobile World Congress, the company says that it will be exploring the theme of Connectivity, AI, Industry 4.0, Immersive Content, Disruptive Innovation, Digital Wellness, Digital Trust, and The Future.

A few months ago, Oppo’s Product Manager Chuck Wang confirmed that the company will be using the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 platform to announce its first foldable smartphone but didn’t share information on its specifications and release date.
Currently, there’s no confirmation on whether the foldable phone from Oppo will be equipped with a fold-in design like Samsung’s foldable phone or fold-out design like Huawei’s foldable phone. A report that had surfaced coupled of months ago had suggested that Samsung may allow Oppo and Xiaomi to use its Infinity Flex Display.
As for the Oppo’s 10x lossless zoom technology first surfaced last month in a patent. The technology, which was announced last week, uses three cameras instead of two. It has added an ultra-wide camera to the main camera + telephoto lens dual camera setup of the 5x precision optical zoom. The ultra-wide angle camera sits atop the ultra-clear main camera while the telephoto lens maintains its periscope-like setup. The new design provides a zoom range of 15.9mm to 159mm.

Honor V20 is going to debut in the European market with the moniker Honor View 20 and it is ready to conquer the segment of affordable flagships in the Old Continent. But the phone will have a lot of competition, so it is all but obvious that it will have the biggest success in Europe. Two of its most important competitors are surely the Oppo Find X which is the first Oppo device to come in the European market and the new Google Pixel 3 which is one of the most compact flagships in the market. Here is a specs comparison.

Design
If you need the phone with the most impressive look, you should go either for the Honor View 20 or the Oppo Find X. The first is one of the few devices with a hole in-display for the front camera, placed there to minimize the bezels. It also has a stunning glass back with suggestive light effects on it. Oppo Find X is the first phone with a motorized slider design consisting of a slider that houses all the cameras. It comes with an incredibly high screen-to-body ratio, no notch, and no holes. Google Pixel 3 has not a very attractive look, but it is the most compact device.
Display
In terms of viewing quality, Google Pixel 3 has the best display, even though it is the smallest one with just 5.5 inches (18:9 aspect ratio). It features a better color reproduction thanks to 100% DCI-P3 coverage and the HDR10 technology, and it also has a higher pixel density. Last but not least, it has stereo speakers on the front, enhancing the multimedia experience. The second place goes to Oppo Find X with its wide AMOLED display. Honor View 20 has just a midrange IPS panel, so it takes the last place.
Hardware/Software
The hardware side of the Honor View 20 is the most powerful thanks to the Kirin 980 chipset delivering blazing speeds and a huge smoothness. The phone is equipped with up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage and it runs a custom UI. But Google Pixel 3 has another important advantage, even though it has lower-end hardware: it comes with a stock Android experience and faster updates. The Pixel line-up usually gets updated before every other phone.
Camera
Even though it has just a single sensor on the back, Google Pixel 3 is able to deliver the highest photo quality. It has incredibly good autofocus as well as a perfect optical stabilization, and it is even able to provide a great bokeh effect, despite not having a secondary depth sensor. The front camera is very interesting as well thanks to the double sensor which includes an ultra wide angle lens. Excluding the Google Pixel 3, I would choose the Honor View 20 because of its stunning 48 MP sensor on the back, which maximizes the detail and delivers a low level of noise in low light conditions.
Battery
Honor View 20 has a battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh, a rare thing for flagships. It can provide up to two days of battery life with moderate use and it wins the battery comparison. Oppo Find X has a slightly smaller battery, but it has the fastest charging technology, while Google Pixel 3 cannot compete with its opponents because its capacity is just at an average level.
Price
Google Pixel 3 is my favorite phone from this trio because it has important added values such as a better camera, water resistance, faster updates and stereo speakers, but Honor View 20 has a definitely higher value for money because it costs just €600/$682 while Google Pixel 3 costs about €850/$966. Oppo Find X has more or less the same price as the View 20 thanks to online street prices.
The Moto G7 Play is one of the upcoming Moto G phones rumored to launch next month. It should be the cheapest of the lot, and a Geekbench listing as revealed it will also be the least powerful.
The Moto G7 Play was benchmarked yesterday and the listing reveals it is powered by Qualcomm’s MSM8953 processor which is popularly known as the Snapdragon 625. This is surprising as the phone was reported to come with a Snapdragon 632 processor just like the Moto G7 Power.
The version on Geekbench also has just 2GB of RAM but runs Android 9 Pie.
The Moto G7 Play’s manual was seen on the FCC’s website back in November along with photos. The documents revealed it will have a 3,000mAh battery, a fingerprint scanner, and a notched display. The notch will house a camera, a speaker and a LED flash for nighttime selfies.
In Africa, Apple isn’t king, neither is Samsung or any of the other big names in the mobile industry. The African mobile phone market is controlled by Transsion Holdings, owners of Tecno, Infinix, and Itel phone brands. Now, Xiaomi has announced the establishment of an African Regional Department to challenge the Shenzhen-based Transsion.
According to a market research analysis for the first quarter of 2018, Samsung held the largest market share but Transsion’s Tecno and Itel brands had the second and third largest market share while its Infinix brand came in at 5th place just behind Huawei. Collectively, that makes Transsion Holdings the leader of the smartphone market.
Xiaomi wants some of that market share and this isn’t surprising. The brand has been on an expansion streak in the last 18 months. It has opened up shop in new countries and regions and now it wants to come to Africa.
However, only a few Xiaomi phones have been sold since then and actually by retail partners. Last year, the Redmi Note 5A and Redmi Note 5 were sold by e-Commerce store, Jumia. The Redmi 6A is also currently available on the retail site. Apart from these devices, there isn’t really an official presence in the country. There is also no after-sales service. Nevertheless, Xiaomi products are quite popular as a lot of people import them from outside the continent.
Now that Xiaomi has established an African Regional Department, things should be much different. We should see devices get official launches in different countries and there should be official after-sales support.
According to the official memo, Xiaomi’s African Regional Department will be headed by Wang Lingming and he will report to Wang Xiang.
Motorola hasn’t yet announced the 7th-gen Moto G series yet but it appears a launch will happen very soon. Live images of the Moto G7 Power have surfaced online and they were taken at a store in Brazil. If the phone is already shipping to stores, that should mean an official launch is around the corner.
The images confirm the specs of the Moto G7 Power and also reveal the price of the phone. Although the price is for Brazil, it should give us an idea of how much it will cost when it arrives in other countries.
[envira-gallery id=”233086″]
The Moto G7 Power will come with a 6.2-inch HD+ display with a notch at the top that houses the 8MP selfie camera and speaker. While an FHD+ display would be better, the lower resolution should mean less power consumption and longer battery life.
The phone is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core processor. This is said to be the Snapdragon 632 mobile platform. The chipset is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. There will be other RAM and storage configurations available.
The back of the Moto G7 Power is home to a single 12MP sensor that is housed in a black circle along with an LED flash. There is a fingerprint scanner beneath the setup with a Motorola logo on top. The back of the device appears to be covered in glass that reflects light. The variant in the live images is blue.
[envira-gallery id=”233087″]
The phone packs a massive 5,000mAh battery which should last a whole day and probably more. One shot of the phone shows a number of Motorola apps and Google’s own File Go and Photos apps.
The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT launched as the world’s first phone with 12GB of RAM in December. New reports say a variant of Samsung’s Galaxy S10 Plus might join the list.
It was reported a few months ago that Samsung would launch a version of the Galaxy S10 that will have a ceramic body. That version was initially said to be the 5G version of the Galaxy S10 which has been referred to as the Galaxy S10 X. Latest news from say it will likely be a variant of the Galaxy S10 Plus instead and will pack lots of storage and RAM.
This version of the Galaxy S10 Plus is said to have model number SM-G975FC and will come in white and black ceramic variants according to SamMobile. China-based leaker @UniverseIce known for his Samsung-related leaks also revealed in a tweet yesterday that the ceramic version of the S10 Plus will also have 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage!
The Galaxy S10+ 12GB/1TB version will have a ceramic back cover. This ceramic has a special process that is not only scratch resistant but also resistant to falling, but the weight will increase. This is the most advanced version of the S10+ . There is a metallic luster.
The tweet also said the ceramic is made via a special process that not only makes it resistant to scratches but also “resistant to falling”. We believe he means the phone will also be able to survive more drops than the glass variant. However, this feature gives the phone additional weight. Lastly, he says it will have a metallic luster which should make it look really nice and attractive.
It is no news that Vivo is an official partner of the NBA. The Chinese phone manufacturer has a few NBA-themed limited editions phones, though we didn’t get any last year. Today, Vivo released a teaser for a new NBA limited edition phone and we think it is of the NEX Dual Display.
Vivo released a poster today teasing the arrival of a new NBA limited edition phone. From the appearance of the device, we believe it is the NEX Dual Display since there is no notch and the bezels are really thin. However, that’s not the only info the poster reveals.
Vivo’s brand ambassador for a few years now has been Golden State Warrior player, Stephen Curry. It appears his contract has expired as the poster also teases a new brand ambassador. Those familiar with the NBA will recognize that jersey number belongs to DeMarcus Cousins who also plays for the Golden State Warriors. We believe this means Cousins is Vivo’s new brand ambassador and we may actually be getting a Vivo NEX Dual Display DeMarcus Cousins Limited Edition.
The limited edition NEX Dual Display is expected to come with a special retail box with the NBA and or Golden State Warriors’ logos. It should also come with branded accessories and souvenirs and a custom UI.
HMD Global is one of the top manufacturers when it comes to speed of updates. A large percentage of its phones are already running Android 9 Pie, the latest version of Android. It appears that update may soon arrive for the Nokia 3.1 Plus.
A version of the Nokia 3.1 Plus running Android 9 was seen on Geekbench yesterday. Since the phone is currently still running Android Oreo, this might be an indication that the update to Pie is on the horizon.
The phone just received January’s security update a few days ago. We presume Android Pie will likely be bundled with February’s security update next month.
2019 just started and most of the eligible phones are yet to receive the update to Android Pie. But folks over at XDA Developers already put their hands on an early build of the next major version of the operating system: Android Q. We still do not know how Android 10 will be called, but thanks to the screenshots and a hands-on video of the early build leaked we can have a first glance on some of the improvements that will be included in this version. Android Q will have a brand new Dark Mode: it will be useful for everyone who has a smartphone with an OLED display and wants to save energy, as well as not getting tired eyes in the night thanks to darker colors.
In order to activate the new Dark Mode, all users will have to do is go to the Display settings menu and tap on Set Dark Mode. Once it is enabled, the Dark Mode on Android Q will turn the user interface dark. White elements will become dark gray and there will even be some elements, such as the notifications and the toggle panel, that will become black. Even apps that do not support the Dark Mode natively will be compatible with the new feature.
The Android Q build also shows improvements to privacy and security with a revamped Permissions menu which will allow checking apps permissions individually directly from the settings and restricting permissions when apps are open. Info about app permissions will be also shown in the notifications tab if needed. Two important security options have been added: Time to take action and Time to read, that will allow setting how long to show messages that ask the user to take action and the notifications that require no immediate action.
Further, there will be a Desktop Mode, freeform windows support (allowing to launch multiple windows of apps by tapping on them), a built-in system recording and a new Game Update Package Preferences allowing users to select graphics drivers on their own. Last but not least, Android Q will bring a feature to turn sensors off and two new screen lock settings to keep the phone awake for longer duration when it is close to a trusted device and to automatically lock it when that device is removed from the trusted devices list.
Samsung’s flagships usually come in two processor variants. Based on the country or region, you either get the version powered by Samsung’s own Exynos processor or the one powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon chipset. The Galaxy S10 will be no different.
In China and the US, Samsung will launch the phone with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 mobile platform while Europe will get the Exynos 9820 version. The latter has just appeared on Geekbench, giving us a look at how powerful Samsung’s flagship chipset performs.
Appearing on Geekbench as the “samsung SM-G973N”, the Galaxy S10 runs Android 9 Pie and packs 6GB of RAM. The Exynos 9820 has a base frequency of 1.95GHz and the device scored 4382 points in the single-core test and 9570 points in the multi-core test.
Compared to the Galaxy S9 which is powered by the Exynos 9810 (with 4GB of RAM and running Android Oreo) and has a single-core score of 3655 and a multi-core score of 8970 points, the Exynos 9820 definitely brings significant improvements in performance.
However, when compared to the Snapdragon 855 version of the Galaxy S10 Plus, the Exynos 9820 trails behind in the multi-core score (10,256) but beats the single-core score (3413) of Qualcomm’s latest chipset.
