Dimensity 9400+ to feature overclocked Cortex-X925 core, launch timeframe leaks

MediaTek typically launches two flagship mobile SoCs each year. The company introduced the Dimensity 9400 SoC back in October, and we’re expecting a slightly upgraded version, likely called the Dimensity 9400+, to debut sometime this year.

Now, reliable tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) has revealed the expected launch timeframe of this upcoming SoC, along with details on potential upgrades.

According to DCS, the Dimensity 9400+ will feature the same ARM Cortex-X925 prime core as the regular 9400. But the clock speed is expected to see a jump from 3.62 GHz to 3.7 GHz. 

Moreover, the tipster suggests that the processor will launch in March, with two smartphone brands reportedly preparing to introduce their first devices powered by it.

Oppo Find N5 is world’s first IPX9-rated foldable phone, supports underwater photography

Oppo is gearing up to unveil its next-generation foldable phone, the Oppo Find N5, in February in China. This foldable flagship promises substantial design enhancements over the 2023 Find N3. In a series of updates shared on Weibo, Oppo’s Find-series Product Manager, Zhou Yibao, teased the device’s industry-leading durability and extraordinary thinness compared to the iPhone 16 Pro.

Thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro

Additionally, Yibao has hinted that the device weighs less than 230 grams, compared to the N3’s 239 grams.

In related news, the Oppo Find N5 recently surfaced on Geekbench, revealing it will arrive as the first device powered by the all-new 7-core version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. The listing further revealed that it has 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and Android 15.

Other expected features include a 2K resolution foldable OLED screen, a triple-camera system with a 50-megapixel Hasselblad main sensor and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 5,700mAh battery with magnetic wireless charging support.

In global markets like the US, Europe, and India, the Oppo Find N5 may launch under the OnePlus branding as the OnePlus Open 2, offering a similar set of premium features and design upgrades.

Oppo isn’t just shaving off millimeters for show, though. The Find N5 is known to be packing the following: wireless charging, a larger battery, a Hasselblad-tuned camera, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor (rumored to have 7 cores instead of 8).

Oppo has been teasing the device in China, where it’s expected to launch as early as February. The possible announcement may come a bit later for global fans, while rumors say that the teaser may be unveiled at the MWC in March as OnePlus Open 2. For the time being, all eyes are on the design of the Find N5. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 lineup is one of the most anticipated launches of the year, but there’s a catch—one of its rumored models, the Galaxy S25 Slim, might not even make it to the US. Industry insider Evan Blass just dropped this bombshell on his private X account, and it’s leaving fans scratching their heads.

If you’re hoping the Galaxy S25 Slim will be worth the wait, temper your expectations. Early rumors painted a picture of a super-thin phone (around 5-6mm) with a sleek design. But that thinness likely means compromises—most notably in battery size. Unlike the upcoming Galaxy S26 lineup, which is rumored to feature silicon-carbon anode batteries, the Slim will probably stick to traditional Li-ion battery tech.

This means a smaller battery capacity, which could be a dealbreaker for many. And let’s face it: do we really need phones that are paper-thin if it means sacrificing battery life and durability? Probably not.

Furthermore, the absence of one camera results in a slightly redesigned dual-camera module on the RMX5090, replacing the triple-camera setup seen on the GT 7 Pro.

While there is no clarity about the final moniker of the Realme RMX5090, it is being dubbed the Realme GT 7. According to tipster Experience More, apart from the Neo 7 SE, Realme will also announce the Realme GT 7 by the end of February in China. While the GT 7 Pro is Realme’s first phone with an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor, the inclusion of the same is questionable on the GT 7. Likely, the brand may offer an optical-type in-screen fingerprint sensor on the GT 7 to launch it at a reduced price.

Talking about the price, the Realme GT 7 will temporarily displace the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro to become the most affordable Snapdragon 8 Elite chip-powered smartphone. To recall, the Ace 5 Pro was announced with a starting price of 3,399 Yuan (~$465) in China.

The tipster added that the upcoming Realme Neo 7 SE is basically regarded as the Neo 7 with a new chip, the Dimensity 8400-Max. To recall, the Neo 7 was announced with the Dimensity 9300+ chip in December 2024 in China. In other words, the Neo 7 SE will be identical to the Neo 7, and the only major difference will be the inclusion of a less powerful chip. The Neo 7 SE is also expected to dethrone the Redmi Turbo 4 to become the most affordable Dimensity 8400 phone. To recall, the Redmi Turbo 4 debuted earlier this month with a starting price of 1,999 Yuan (~$275).

7 reasons why I want more brands to use Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 chip

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 processor back in March 2024. It’s built on the advanced TSMC 4nm process and packs features that rival premium SoCs from one or two years ago. 

Yet, despite its impressive potential, we’ve barely seen the SoC in action. So far, only two devices—the Realme GT 6T and OnePlus Nord 4—have been launched with this chipset.

For a chip that delivers more than we could ask for in a mid-range phone, its limited adoption feels like a missed opportunity. Here’s why I think brands should embrace the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 and why more phones powered by this chipset could make a meaningful difference for consumers.

1. It Brings Flagship-Level CPU Power to Mid-Range Phones

The Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 is built on the TSMC 4nm process, just like Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or Gen 3. Its CPU configuration—with a high-performance Cortex-X4 core clocked at 2.8GHz, four Cortex-A720 cores, and three Cortex-A520 cores for efficiency—delivers power that’s surprisingly close to what flagship chips offer.

For instance, here’s a benchmark comparison of the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 against 8 Gen 2.

Phones powered by this chip can handle heavy apps, casual editing, and even future-proof tasks without breaking a sweat. Simply put, it’s overkill for day-to-day usage but finally gives mid-range phones the horsepower they’ve been missing.

Mobile gaming has become a huge part of how people use their phones, but not everyone needs the extreme gaming capabilities found in flagship processors. The Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 offers a perfect balance with its Adreno 732 GPU

Additionally, brands might be hesitant to market a mid-range device that feels too close to their flagship offerings, fearing it could cannibalize sales.

But for consumers, the advantages far outweigh any potential downsides. With the 7 Plus Gen 3, brands can deliver a premium experience at a lower price, attracting budget-conscious buyers without compromising on quality.


9. Final Thoughts

The Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 has all the ingredients to deliver a premium experience in mid-range smartphones, yet its limited adoption has held it back from reaching its full potential. 

I hope to see more brands take advantage of what the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 has to offer. Phones powered by this chip wouldn’t just bridge the gap between mid-range and flagship devices—they could redefine it. Oppo Find N5 Geekbench listing reveals 7-core Snapdragon 8 Elite chip

Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset in October 2024. The 8-core chip has the SM8750-AB part number. However, a recent report revealed there is a new 7-core version of the chip with the SM8750-3-AB part number. Recent reports have claimed that the Oppo Find N5 will be the world’s first foldable phone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. However, a new development suggests it will be the first device to feature the 7-core edition of the chip.

Reports have revealed that the Oppo Find N5 has two model numbers: PKH110 and PKH120. While the former is associated with the regular version of the N5, the latter belongs to the satellite connectivity variant. The N5’s PKH100 variant has now emerged on Geekbench, revealing some of its key specs

The Geekbench listings for the Oppo Find N5 show that it runs on the 7-core version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. While the regular version of the N5 features the 7-core edition of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, it remains unclear if its satellite communication version also incorporates the regular 8-core Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.

The Find N5’s Geekbench listing reveals that it features 16 GB of RAM and runs on Android 15. In the single-core test, the device scored 2,948 and 3,083 points, while in the multi-core test, it achieved 8,196 and 8,865 points. The slightly lower multi-core scores, about a thousand points less than the regular Snapdragon 8 Elite, appear to be due to the absence of one core in the new chip.

While benchmark scores provide a general idea of performance, they don’t always reflect real-world usage. In most everyday tasks, the missing core in the Find N5 likely won’t have a significant impact. Modern chips are designed to handle a wide range of tasks efficiently, and most apps don’t fully utilize all cores simultaneously. However, for demanding tasks like gaming or intensive multitasking, the difference might be noticeable. The regular Snapdragon 8 Elite’s extra core could provide a slight edge in these scenarios, resulting in smoother performance and potentially higher frame rates in games.

The Find N5 is slated for a China launch in February. It is speculated to get rebranded as the OnePlus Open 2 in some markets like the US, Europe, and India.

Xiaomi Pad 7 continues the legacy of its predecessors in India. The latest tablet retains the price of its forerunners and yet delivers upgrades.

2. Bright and Crisp Display

The Xiaomi Pad 7 flaunts an 11.2-inch LCD screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio. More importantly, the display is crispier and brighter than the 11-inch panel on the Xiaomi Pad 6.

The screen offers a resolution of 3200 x 2136 pixels and 345 PPI. It supports up to a 144Hz refresh rate and a 360Hz touch sampling rate.

The display has a rated peak brightness level of 800 nits and offers 4096 levels of brightness adjustments along with DC dimming. It also supports Dolby Vision as well as DCI-P3 color gamut.

It consists of backlit keys, which offer 1.3mm key travel. The trackpad also supports quick gestures for multiple functions.

Whereas the stylus has two buttons. They can be used for multiple tasks, such as pointing, highlighting, writing, screenshots, and camera shutter.

The pen supports 8192 levels of pressure sensitivity. Thus, it feels closer to a real thing.

5. Competitive Pricing

The Xiaomi Pad 7 is offered in two trims in India. The base 8GB + 128GB variant costs ₹27,999, while the higher 12GB + 256GB model retails at ₹30,999.

There’s no other Android tablet in this price segment in India offering an identical or better feature set. Even the accessories are not that expensive for the value they add.

The stylus and keyboard cost ₹5,999 and ₹8,999, respectively.

Leica Camera AG has unveiled the Leica SL3-S, the latest addition to its SL-System lineup. The SL3-S is the first SL-System camera to feature Content Credentials technology, aligning with the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) to establish photo authentication and transparency.

The SL3-S includes a 24 MP BSI-CMOS full-frame sensor with Multi-Shot resolutions of 48 MP and 96 MP. With an ISO range of 50–200,000, the sensor delivers high dynamic range and consistent quality in various lighting conditions. Its advanced phase-detection autofocus system offers precise tracking and up to 30 fps continuous shooting.

The SL3-S uses Content Credentials technology, embedding secure metadata into images, such as camera details, author information, and editing history. The SL3-S supports up to 6K video recording with 3:2 Open Gate formats for greater versatility. It features ProRes 4:2:2HQ recording, HDMI RAW output, USB-C SSD recording, and a timecode interface for synchronization in professional workflows. Powered by the Maestro IV processor, the camera delivers precise color, wide dynamic range, and low noise in Leica’s L-Log color space.

Huawei Pura 70 Ultra will get a Red Variant for the Chinese New Year

Huawei has many new devices in development including the Pocket 3 foldable which is expected to launch in Q1 2025, and the successor to the groundbreaking tri-fold Mate XT. The brand is also working on a new red version of the Pura 70 Ultra smartphone, featuring a glossy frame, redesigned lens module, and plain leather back cover. The update focuses on appearance, with core specifications unchanged.

Details shared on Weibo by user 李小祥龙 claim that this new color option could be a Chinese New Year special edition model, and it will also be quite expensive. The device launched for 9,999 Yuan (~$1,365) back in April of 2024.
