Warning: Why You should be Careful when Buying Personal Care Products with Flipkart’s Open Box Delivery

A few days ago, I decided to purchase a new trimmer. As a frequent shopper on Flipkart, I naturally turned to the platform to browse their options. After exploring several products, I finalized on a Philips trimmer that seemed perfect for my needs. Without much thought, I proceeded to order it, completely unaware that this product was part of their “open box delivery” policy.

Flipkart Open Box Delivery Scam

The Risks of Buying Personal Care Items Online

Fast forward a few days, and the delivery date arrived. The delivery boy called me to hand over the product. I was in a bit of a hurry and went outside to collect it. The first thing I noticed was that the delivery box was almost torn. Even the delivery boy acknowledged the poor condition of the packaging. Brushing it off as a minor inconvenience, I didn’t give it much thought.

When the delivery boy started opening the box, I asked if it was an open-box delivery product, and he confirmed it was. It was only then that I realized this. It is an important detail because the return policies change the moment you go for open box delivery.

As he took out the trimmer and its attachments for photographs, I observed that most of the accessories were not in their usual sealed plastic packaging. Everything looked open, and the trimmer itself was covered in dust. I assumed it might be due to the dusty box it came in and, in my rush, decided to accept the product, providing the OTP as required. While I didn’t personally inspect the product and accessories one by one, it looked fine when the delivery boy was taking pictures.

Later, after finishing my work, I finally sat down to inspect the product properly. That’s when doubts began creeping in. The thought struck me: could this trimmer be a used product? Personal care items like these should always be new and untouched.

I decided to investigate further by checking under the trimmer’s blade attachment. From my previous experience with trimmers, I knew they come with a white lubricating grease inside, which should remain in place unless disturbed. And if the product had been used, there would likely be traces of hair and the grease would be smeared.

Sure enough, the moment I opened the trimmer’s blade attachment, I was horrified. The trimmer had hair inside, and the grease was spread out unevenly, clear signs that it had been used. My shock turned to disgust as I realized the potential health risks this posed. What if someone had used it for trimming pubic hair? The very thought was nauseating. I immediately sanitized my hands, cleaned the area, and sealed the product in a secure place to avoid further contamination.

I contacted Flipkart’s customer support and explained the situation in detail. However, their response was disappointing. The representative informed me that their policy doesn’t allow returns for open-box delivery products.

I argued that this wasn’t about dissatisfaction but a blatant violation of health and safety standards. They told me that the product wasn’t Flipkart Assured, again something I hadn’t noticed during purchase. This left me even more frustrated. Why would a company allow non-assured sellers to deliver open-box products, especially personal care items? Isn’t this an open invitation for scams?

In Case of Open Box Delivery, Inspect Every Single Item Thoroughly!

This experience has made me seriously question the safety of open-box delivery policies, especially when it comes to personal care products. Receiving a used trimmer was both shocking and unsettling, and it made me realize how little oversight there seems to be from sellers. Personal hygiene products, of all things, should have the highest standards of cleanliness and safety, but this incident showed how easily those standards can be ignored. While I admit I didn’t carefully check the box during delivery, it’s alarming that such products can be sent out in this condition at all.

From now on, I’ll be far more cautious when buying personal care items online, and I urge others to do the same. Always inspect the product thoroughly during delivery and stick to reputable, assured sellers whenever possible. This experience has taught me that sellers aren’t always ensuring customer safety, and it’s up to us as consumers to stay vigilant and protect ourselves from potential health hazards.

With both Flipkart and Amazon already under scrutiny by the Indian government for their business practices, I believe the Competition Commission of India (CCI) should also investigate such delivery policies. No consumer should have to go through what I did. Open box delivery for non-assured sellers, especially for personal care products, is a disaster waiting to happen. Companies must prioritize the health and safety of their customers over questionable seller practices.

This incident has left me deeply disappointed, and I hope my experience serves as a warning to others. Always double-check delivery policies and be cautious when ordering personal care items online. As for Flipkart, they need to take responsibility and implement stricter quality control measures to regain customer trust.

Realme 14 Pro+ launched in China: Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, 6000mAh battery, triple flash camera

Realme has launched the Realme 14 Pro+ in its home country today. At first glance, the phone stands out with its narrower, symmetrical bezels on the front and a redesigned camera module on the back, featuring three distinct flash units. However, the upgrades go beyond just the design. Let’s take a closer look!

Realme 14 Pro Plus

Specifications and features:

The camera system includes a total of three sensors on the back – 50MP Sony IMX896 main + 50MP Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto with 3x magnification + 8MP ultrawide (16mm). For those curious, the main sensor measures 1/1.56″ in size. On the front, there is a 32MP shooter.

This camera system is powered by Realme’s HYPERIMAGE+ imaging system. Based on the image samples the company shared on its website, the imaging system of the Realme 14 Pro+ appears to be a significant upgrade over that of its predecessor. The 3x telephoto is holding up quite well up to 30x, which is impressive.

On the front, the phone packs a flat 6.83″ OLED display with 1.5K resolution and 1.6mm narrow bezels on all four sides. It offers a peak brightness of 1500 nits.

On the inside, the phone equips the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 (vs Dimensity 7200) chip, upgraded from the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 of the predecessor. The new chip offers 15% higher single-core and 12% higher multi-core performance as compared to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. According to the company, the Realme 14 Pro+ supports national-level MOBA mobile games at 120 FPS, and offers a stable frame with controlled temperature. This is made possible thanks to the 6000mm² VC cooling chamber.

Selfie

To power the system, Realme is using its 6000mAh Titan battery that supports 80W fast charging. According to the company’s tests, the phone charges 50% in just 24 minutes. The phone can offer 16.6 hours of video playback on a single charge. The battery has an energy density of 804Wh/L, which is what enables the phone to be only 7.99mm thick despite packing a large capacity.

All of it is protected inside an IP68 + IP69 body, meaning it’s safe from accidental dips in fresh water—and even a hot water jet, in case you feel like testing its limits. The phone comes with Android 15-based realme UI 6.0 out of the box and has a visual feature similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island.

Price and availability:

The phone is available in two color options—Grey and White—and is currently on sale through the company’s official website in its home country. The 12GB+256GB and 12GB + 512GB versions are priced at 2599 Yuan (~Rs. 30,400) and 2,799 Yuan (~Rs. 32,800) respectively.

Alleged Realme Neo 7 Pro specifications leak reveals 1.5K OLED screen, Dimensity 9400+ / Snapdragon 8 Elite

In December 2024, Realme unveiled the Realme Neo 7 SE, equipped with the Dimensity 9300+ and a 7,000mAh battery. Rumor has it that Realme will launch the Realme Neo 7 SE with the Dimensity 8400-Max in the domestic market in February. Like the Neo 7, the SE edition is expected to pack a 7,000mAh battery. A new leak suggests that the Neo 7 series may include a couple of more models. Rumors suggest that one of them may likely carry the Realme Neo 7 Pro moniker.

Key specifications of upcoming Realme Neo 7 series phones leaked

In a recent Weibo post, reliable leaker Digital Chat Station revealed the specifications of two upcoming Realme phones that may launch following the Neo 7 SE. According to the leak, one of these devices will feature a quad-curved OLED panel with equal-sized bezels and a 1.5K resolution. It is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It is likely to pack a 6,500mAh battery with 120W fast charging support.

The second phone appears to be a larger device equipped with a flat OLED screen with support for a 1.5K resolution. Under the hood, it will house the Dimensity 9400 Plus chipset, 7 series models. While both phones are expected to be part of the Neo 7 lineup, one of them is likely to carry the “Neo 7 Pro” moniker. These devices are likely to debut in the second quarter of this year.

In related news, Realme is gearing up to launch the Realme 14 Pro series on Jan. 16 in India. However, the brand has already launched the Realme 14 Pro+ without any fanfare in China. Priced at 2,599 Yuan (~$350), the 14 Pro+ offers key specifications, such as a 6.83-inch OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip, a 6,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging, a 32-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 50-megapixel (Sony IMX896, OIS) + 8-megapixel + 50-megapixel (3x periscope, OIS) triple camera system.

Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 leaks with downgraded camera specs

Xiaomi unveiled its first clamshell foldable, the Mix Flip, in July 2024. Its successor has been making headlines in the rumor mill and has also appeared on multiple certification sites, confirming that the device is on its way.

Now, a report by XiaomiTime has revealed the camera specs of the upcoming flip phone. Unfortunately, the news isn’t as exciting as we had hoped.

Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 camera specs

The Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 will reportedly feature the same OV8000 50MP main sensor and 32MP OV32B40 front camera as the Mix Flip. However, it seems the device is ditching the 50MP telephoto lens of its predecessor in favor of a 50MP Samsung S5KJN5 ultra-wide-angle camera.

What led Xiaomi to make this decision remains unclear, but for me personally, a telephoto camera is far more useful. Whether it’s for portraits or capturing crisp zoom shots, I find telephoto lenses more versatile than ultra-wide lenses.

A recent leak from Weibo tipster Experience More corroborates these camera details and adds that the Mix Flip 2 will come with an IPX8 rating and wireless charging support—features that were absent in its predecessor.

The tipster also mentions a larger battery, and a report earlier this week suggests it could house either a 5,600mAh or 5,700mAh cell. Considering the original Flip had a 4,780mAh battery, this would be a notable improvement, especially given the limited space clamshell folding phones have to accommodate larger batteries.

What else do we know

In addition to the camera and battery details, a few previous reports have shed light on other specifications of the phone. The Mix Flip 2 is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and will reportedly be thinner than its predecessor. For context, the Xiaomi Mix Flip is already quite slim at just 7.6mm.

Moreover, back in August, the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 was reportedly spotted with the model numbers 2505APX7BC and 2505APX7BG in the GSMA IMEI database. The former is believed to represent the Chinese model, while the latter is likely the global variant. The prefix “2505” likely hints that the foldable could launch in May 2025 (the fifth month of the year).

Samsung Galaxy A56 appears on certification site with a redesigned back cover

As usual, Samsung has a busy first month of the year. It is unveiling its new products at this week’s CES, while the Galaxy S25 series launch is set for later in January.

After the flagship launch, the Korean smartphone manufacturer will likely shift its focus to refreshing its mid-range Galaxy A-series smartphones. One of the models we have been hearing a lot about has now surfaced on China’s TENAA certification site, revealing the phone’s design and specs.

Samsung Galaxy A56 TENAA Certification

The device in question is the Galaxy A56. The certification shows that the phone will ditch its predecessor’s long-running design, which housed the rear cameras individually. Instead, the A56 features a protruding camera bar that houses the wide, ultrawide, and macro cameras.

At first glance, the setup looks similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6‘s rear camera layout, complete with an LED flash placed to the right.

From the front, the device appears identical to its predecessor, with curved edges, equally thin bezels, and a punch-hole selfie shooter at the top. However, a closer look reveals a subtle change.

The device seems to sport flat sides all around, except for the top-right side, which features a raised “Key Island.”

The TENAA listing doesn’t reveal much about the device’s specifications. It confirms the phone will be powered by a 5,000mAh battery and will have four cameras—three at the rear and one at the front.

What Can We Expect?

While the listing provides limited information, previous reports suggest the Galaxy A56 will be powered by the Exynos 1580 chip. The phone has appeared on Geekbench with the same chip, scoring 1,341 (single-core) and 3,836 (multi-core).

It will ship with Android 15 and come in two storage variants: 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB.

On the camera front, the Galaxy A56 will reportedly retain the same rear camera setup as its predecessor, comprising a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 5MP depth sensor.

However, the front camera may see a downgrade to a 12MP sensor from the 32MP found on the Galaxy A55. The display will feature an FHD+ 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED screen. Additionally, its 5,000mAh battery will reportedly support 45W fast charging, an improvement over the 25W on its predecessors.

Realme Neo 7 SE images leaked via MIIT certification

Realme recently confirmed that it will be soon launching a new phone dubbed the Realme Neo 7 SE in the Chinese market. Equipped with the Dimensity 8400-Max chip, it will be positioned lower than the Dimensity 9300+-powered Realme Neo 7. While Realme is yet to reveal anything else about the SE model, the alleged device has appeared in the database of China’s MIIT certification platform. The images that have surfaced through the certification has revealed its design.

Realme Neo 7 SE design revealed

Realme Neo 7 SE TENAA images
Realme Neo 7 SE TENAA images

As can be seen, the Realme Neo 7 SE, which bears the RMX5080 model number, has a flat OLED panel on the front. On the back, it has a dual-camera setup accompanied by an LED flash unit. The MIIT certification has also revealed that the device is backed by a 6,850mAh (rated value) battery.

Realme Neo 7 SE specifications (rumored)

As per reports, the Realme Neo 7 SE will feature an OLEDD panel that supports a 1.5K resolution. Like the Neo 7, the SE edition is also expected to support a 120Hz refresh rate. For security, it is expected to feature an optical-type short-focus in-screen fingerprint sensor.

With the Dimensity 8400-Max chip onboard, it is expected to rival the Redmi Turbo 4, which features the Dimensity 8400-Ultra SoC. Probably, the device will ship with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

The Neo 7 SE is expected to run on Realme UI 6-based Android 14. For photography, is expected to feature a Sony IMX882 50-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide snapper. It will have a 7,000mAh (typical value) battery and support 80W fast charging.

As far as launch is concerned, it is expected to debut in February in China. Some reports suggest that the device may get rebranded as the Realme GT 7T in the global market.

Asus ROG Flow Z13: The Gaming Tablet That Thinks It’s a PC

Asus ROG Flow Z13 has returned in 2025, bringing a host of groundbreaking updates that redefine what a gaming tablet can achieve. At the intersection of power, portability, and versatility, this device is designed for gamers and creators seeking workstation-class performance in an ultra-compact form. With its revamped design, powerful internals, and adaptable features, the ROG Flow Z13 stands apart from traditional gaming handhelds and laptops.

Asus ROG Flow Z13

1. Powerful Internals

Asus Flow Z13 is powered by the cutting-edge AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, which features 16 Zen 5 CPU cores and 40 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores. This enables users to harness AI-driven features for creative tasks, productivity, and beyond. Paired with up to 128GB of quad-channel LPDDR5X-8000 memory, the Z13 offers unmatched flexibility, dynamically allocating resources between system RAM and VRAM to meet performance demands seamlessly.

2. Enhanced Cooling

The Flow Z13 comes with a redesigned thermal solution built for superior cooling. It features a new vapor chamber made from lightweight stainless steel and copper, offering 54% more mainboard coverage than its predecessor. The device equips Dual Arc Flow fans and ultra-thin heatsink fins to dissipate heat efficiently, while strategically placed dust filters ensure long-term reliability.

Unlike gaming handhelds that often throttle performance under heavy loads due to limited cooling, the Z13 sports a unique airflow design that sustains higher performance levels. Even during intense gaming sessions, it stays cool both internally and on the touchscreen surface, ensuring a comfortable and reliable user experience.

3. Display and Design

The ROG Flow Z13 features a stunning 13-inch ROG Nebula Display with a 2.5K resolution, a 180Hz refresh rate, and 100% DCI-P3 color coverage. It comes with a vivid IPS touchscreen, ideal for fast-paced gaming and creative tasks, delivering fluid motion and vibrant colors. It also comes with a detachable keyboard and a built-in kickstand, offering the flexibility to function as a tablet, laptop, or gaming station. Weighing just 1.2kg (without the keyboard), it combines portability with versatility, making it significantly lighter than traditional laptops.

4. Connectivity

The Flow Z13 also shines in its port selection, offering dual USB4 Type-C ports, a USB Type-A port, HDMI 2.1, a microSD card reader, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. This level of connectivity outclasses gaming handhelds, which typically rely on a single USB-C port and require dongles for additional peripherals.

For those seeking desktop-level performance, the Z13 supports Asus’ refreshed ROG XG Mobile eGPU, which can house up to NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU. This optional accessory transforms the tablet into a powerhouse capable of handling demanding tasks like 3D rendering and high-end gaming. While laptops often integrate powerful GPUs, the XG Mobile offers an external solution that maintains the Z13’s portability when not in use.

5. What Sets the Z13 Apart?

The ROG Flow Z13 occupies a unique niche between gaming handhelds and laptops. Handhelds like the Steam Deck prioritize portability and affordability but compromise on power and display quality. Laptops deliver raw performance but lack the Z13’s lightweight design and tablet versatility. The Flow Z13 provides the best of both worlds, combining the flexibility of a tablet with the performance of a gaming laptop.

However, its premium price, which is expected to be around $2,000, positions it as a device for enthusiasts rather than casual gamers. The XG Mobile Dock adds to the cost, making the full setup more expensive than many high-end gaming laptops. Yet, for gamers and creators who value portability, adaptability, and cutting-edge performance, the Flow Z13 is a compelling choice.

At CES 2025, Asus also unveiled the Zenbook 14 (2025) featuring a Core Ultra 9 285H processor, 2.8K 120Hz OLED display, and Wi-Fi 7, alongside the ultraportable ROG Zephyrus G14 and G16 gaming laptops powered by RTX 5080 GPUs.

HDMI 2.2 Is Here, But Should You Care Yet?

At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, the HDMI Forum pulled the curtain back on HDMI 2.2, the latest upgrade to the ubiquitous video/audio standard. Promising twice the speed of its predecessor and better synchronization between audio and video, HDMI 2.2 sounds like a big deal on paper. But what does this really mean for the average consumer? Let’s break it down.

HDMI 2.2 everything you need to know

1. Twice the Speed, Bigger Bandwidth

Let’s start with the headline: HDMI 2.2 doubles the bandwidth of HDMI 2.1, jumping from 48 Gbit/s to a staggering 96 Gbit/s. For context, HDMI 2.1 supports 4K at 144 frames per second (fps), which is already more than enough for most gamers and cinephiles.

But with HDMI 2.2, we’re now looking at support for 8K at 240 fps and 4K at a whopping 480 fps. There’s more — even 12K and 16K resolutions are technically possible too, but those are future-proof features that will likely be more for marketing than immediate practicality.

According to the HDMI Forum, the doubled bandwidth will enable improvements in data-intensive applications such as AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) and commercial applications such as large-format illuminated signage, medical imaging, and machine vision.

2. A Solution to Audio-Video Lag

One of the more tangible benefits of HDMI 2.2 is the introduction of the Latency Indication Protocol (LIP). If you’ve ever noticed that the audio from your soundbar is just a half-second behind the video on your TV, you’ll appreciate this feature.

LIP aims to reduce that lag by syncing audio and video more precisely, especially in setups involving AV receivers or soundbars. The new protocol allows TVs to read timing information from connected devices to smooth out delays. It’s a quality-of-life improvement that home theater enthusiasts will appreciate.

3. New Cables (Sort of)

Here’s the inevitable part: HDMI 2.2 comes with a new cable specification. Dubbed Ultra96, these cables are designed to handle the full 96 Gbit/s bandwidth. However, before you panic and start budgeting for a complete rewiring of your entertainment center, there’s good news.

The physical HDMI port isn’t changing. In other words, your existing HDMI cables will still fit into HDMI 2.2 ports. For most current use cases—like 4K at 120 Hz gaming or movie nights with your Blu-ray player—your existing ultra-high-speed HDMI cables will likely do just fine. Ultra96 cables will only be necessary if you’re planning to take full advantage of HDMI 2.2’s maximum bandwidth.

There is a small catch. Cables longer than 3 meters might start showing limitations, and devices pushing resolutions beyond 4K could require digital compression (DSC). For shorter runs, your current setup is probably safe for now.

4. What About Gaming?

HDMI 2.2 could finally challenge DisplayPort’s dominance in high-refresh-rate gaming. HDMI 2.1 already supports 4K at 120 fps, but DisplayPort has been the go-to for higher refresh rates like 240 fps. With HDMI 2.2, that line starts to blur.

The added bandwidth means 4K gaming at 240 fps could become a reality, all while benefiting from HDMI’s other features like eARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel) and HDMI-CEC for device control. This could make HDMI 2.2 the default for TVs, soundbars, and AV receivers, giving gamers more options outside the traditional monitor setup.

5. Not Every Device Will Have It All

The HDMI Forum has maintained its tradition of allowing manufacturers to choose which features to implement. This means that while HDMI 2.2 opens the door to new possibilities, not every device will offer the maximum performance. For example, a gaming console might cap out at 40 Gbps even if the HDMI 2.2 standard allows for 96 Gbps.

This flexibility isn’t necessarily a drawback. In practice, even HDMI 2.1’s 40 Gbps is more than adequate for 4K gaming at 120Hz. As such, HDMI 2.2’s higher bandwidth will likely be reserved for future applications and display technologies that go beyond what is currently available.

6. How Soon Will HDMI 2.2 Hit the Market?

Don’t expect HDMI 2.2-enabled devices to be available on the market anytime soon. If we look at past trends, it may take a few years before consumers see widespread adoption. HDMI 2.1 was introduced in 2017 but only became standard in TVs around 2020/2021. So the first HDMI 2.2 products could take a year or more to appear on the market.

And the rollout will likely be staggered. Premium TVs and gaming monitors may adopt the technology first, and over time, HDMI 2.2 will trickle down to mid-range and entry-level products, following the pattern seen with previous HDMI versions.

7. The Future of TV

The real question isn’t whether HDMI 2.2 will improve picture quality—it will—but whether the content will be there to match. Native 8K content is rare, and 8K TVs themselves are niche products. While gaming PCs can push resolutions and frame rates to the limit, most streaming services and Blu-rays are still operating in the 4K realm.

There’s also the issue of display technology. Many TVs today max out at 10-bit color depth, while HDMI 2.2 is capable of handling 12-bit. Until display panels catch up, some of HDMI 2.2’s capabilities will remain theoretical.

8. Conclusion: Don’t Sweat It Yet

HDMI 2.2 is exciting, but it’s more about laying the groundwork for future tech than offering immediate, must-have upgrades. For now, there’s no rush to buy new cables or gear.

What makes the Lenovo Legion Go S special?

Lenovo has just unveiled the Legion Go S series of handheld gaming consoles. But as the portable gaming console market gets new entries every year, it’s harder for Lenovo to stand out. So let’s see what makes the Lenovo Legion Go series special.

Lenovo Legion Go S

1. Lenovo Legion Go S Series: Windows or SteamOS

The company expanded its gaming handheld lineup with three new models at CES 2025. This includes a Windows based model along with a special SteamOS powered version. But that’s not all, there was a prototype of a future high-performance model as well.

This makes the Legion Go S the first handheld outside of the Steam Deck to support SteamOS. While Windows is a popular platform for PCs, SteamOS is designed with gaming in mind. It was built to offer a console like experience and various quality of life features to streamline the experience.

These optimizations have enabled the Steam Deck running on SteamOS 3.0 to even offer higher gaming performance. So despite the compact form factor, it offers decent performance even in AAA games.

2. Specifications

On the front, the Legion Go S sports an 8-inch LCD display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, 500 nits of peak brightness, touch support, 100% sRGB color gamut, and 1920 x 1200 resolution. Under the hood, this gaming handheld is equipped with up to an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme and Integrated AMD Radeon 700M series.

This processor is paired with up to 32GB of 6400MHz LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of PCIe SSD Gen4 storage. A sizeable 55.3Whr battery pack powers both the SteamOS and Windows models, which support 65W wired fast charging via USB Type C. For audio, gamers get a twin 2W integrated speaker along with an audio jack combo as well.

Other notable features include WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, one microSD card reader, two USB4 ports, and 740 grams in weight. Lenovo launched the Legion Go S in two color options, namely Glacier White (Windows) and Nebula Violet (SteamOS).

3. Pricing and Verdict

The Windows variant Lenovo Legion Go S was announced with a starting price tag of $729, with additional configurations expected to launch for around $599. On the other hand, the Lenovo Legion Go S powered by SteamOS is expected to launch for around $499, making it more affordable than the Windows options.

So it is in line with most handheld gaming consoles in the market right now in terms of both specs and pricing. But the SteamOS definitely makes it a handheld to look out for.

Lenovo vs Apple: Can Lenovo’s new ARM mini PC take on the Apple Mac mini

Lenovo has officially unveiled its new Snapdragon X series powered ARM mini desktop PC. The Windows based mini PC is called the IdeaCentre Mini x, which brings capable performance in a compact form factor. But Apple recently took the mini PC market by storm with the M4 powered Mac Mini (review). So can Lenovo take on the iPhone maker with its latest ARM mini PC? Read on to find out.

1. Form Factor

Lenovo vs Apple
Lenovo IdeaCentre Mini x

Apple is known for the premium design and build quality that it offers on its products. The Mac mini is no exception, bringing the metal body in a compact form factor. The Cupertino based giant took things a step further, packing impressive specs in a body that measures just 2 inches in height and width and 5 inches in depth. It also measures just 1.6 kilograms, making it very light and portable.

But challenging the new Mac mini is Lenovo with the IdeaCentre Mini x. With the demand for smaller more eco-friendly devices growing, the global mini PC saw a rise in 2024. So to meet the growing interesting in compact computing, Lenovo introduced its first mini desktop computer that uses Qualcomm processors for impressive specs that take up very little space.

Just like the Mac mini, it features metal accents but with a 1 liter sized body (7.6 x 7.5 x 1.6 inches) that weighs 1.8 kilograms. In other words, it brings productivity that takes up very little space. The case is also made easy to open, which is helpful for users wanting to make upgrades. It is not fanless and packs fans for thermal dissipation.

2. Performance

Lenovo vs Apple

Apple’s Mac mini is equipped with the M4 processor which has proven to be quite powerful. Despite its small body, the brand designed this mini PC to be used for both office use, video editing, and other kinds of productivity. Meanwhile, Lenovo’s new Mini ARM PC is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series of chips. This includes the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Snapdragon 8 Plus.

The Snapdragon X Plus has already proven to outperform the Apple M2 and M3 chips in Cinebench, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite offers performance similar to the M4. While Apple still takes the lead in single core performance by a small margin, the Snapdragon X Elite is quite competitive in the multi core benchmarks. So depending on the applications you use, the choice may matter between Windows or MacOS platforms.

3. Ports

Mac-mini-M4

Apple only offers a limited selection of ports on the M4 Mac mini. You get 2x USB-C, 3x Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C), HDMI, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Ethernet. On the other hand, the IdeaCentre Mini x has a 1x USB-A 3.2 Gen 2, 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, and a headphone jack on the front. Meanwhile, the rear has 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 2, 1x USB-A 2.0, 1x USB-C 4, 1x HDMI 2.1, 1x DisplayPort 1.4 connection, and an ethernet port. So Lenovo clearly has an advantage in this regard.

4. Pricing & Verdict

Both mini PCs are quite similar in terms of pricing as well. The latest Mac mini starts from 599 US Dollars, which makes it a competitive choice for users who need performance on a set budget. While it’s great that Apple finally starts the base option with 16GB of RAM, there is only 256GB on the starting model.

The exact starting configuration of the Lenovo IdeaCentre Mini x is still unclear, but we do know that it carries a $659.99 starting price. It goes up to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage, so the base option may include 16GB RAM with 512GB storage.

All of this combined, makes Lenovo’s new ARM mini PC a great alternative to Apple’s Mac mini. ARM still has some annoyances on Windows, which is predominantly used by x86 based processors. But later iterations can make Windows an even more viable rival to the Mac mini.
