With Google Play, the official app store for Android, unavailable in China, Apple’s App Store becomes the only platform where these apps can be reliably downloaded.

To ease the transition, Microsoft will provide each employee currently using an Android phone with a new iPhone 15. These devices will be available for pick-up at designated collection points across China. It’s important to note that this policy only affects work phones; employees can still use their personal Android devices.

This move comes amid heightened cybersecurity concerns following a major cyberattack believed to be linked to Russia, which impacted several US government agencies earlier this year. In response, Microsoft launched the Secure Future Initiative, a comprehensive program aimed at strengthening its security protocols.

In an interview in China, Honor‘s CEO Ming Zhao showcased an accessory designed for the Honor Magic V3. Although the video on Weibo doesn’t fully detail the design of the Magic V3, it does reveal a new case designed for the upcoming foldable device.

If the rumors come true, we expect the Magic V3 to be a very powerful foldable phone. Despite being a foldable device, it boasts a folded thickness of 9.7mm. For comparison, Xiaomi 14 Ultra has a thickness of 9.2mm. While the Magic V3 may not have the fancy camera specs of the 14 Ultra, a 9.7mm thickness for a foldable device is impressive. Huawei is expected to unveil a new Kirin chipset, the Kirin 9100, later this year. This chip is rumored to power the upcoming Mate 70 series which will also be the first Huawei phone to come pre-installed with HarmonyOS NEXT.

There are rumors that the Kirin 9100 could mark a significant performance leap for the Chinese tech giant. However, there are doubts about this since Huawei and its chip manufacturer, SMIC, lack the latest chip manufacturing infrastructure due to the US trade ban.

As a result, Kirin chips have so far struggled to compete with offerings from Qualcomm and MediaTek. The Kirin 9100, however, might be different. A fresh new rumor suggests it could outperform Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

The news comes from an X tipster, jasonwill, who seems confident that the upcoming Kirin chip will surpass the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. If Huawei’s next-gen Kirin SoC is indeed faster, this would be a monumental gain compared to the current-best Kirin 9010, which struggles to compete even with mid-range chips like the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2.

Additionally, the tipster claims that the Kirin 9100’s performance could lead to an improved user experience, even if its on-paper specifications “may not match those of the 8gen3”.

How could Huawei achieve this? The answer likely lies in software optimization. Huawei is expected to launch HarmonyOS NEXT alongside the Kirin 9100, completely severing ties with Google’s Android platform.

According to Huawei, HarmonyOS NEXT is three times more efficient in memory utilization compared to Android. This translates to smoother UI performance on Huawei devices, even those powered by older Kirin chipsets.

Another factor is the Kirin 9100’s manufacturing process. The chip will reportedly be mass-produced using SMIC’s 5nm node. While this technology isn’t the most cutting-edge, it should still offer improved performance and power efficiency compared to previous Kirin chipsets.

While it would be exciting to see Huawei’s upcoming chip match the performance of its competitors, it’s wise to remain skeptical as this leap forward seems almost too good to be true for Huawei to achieve in one go.

Aoostar launches GEM12 Plus mini PC with 13th gen Intel Core i9 processors, OCuLink & more

Aoostar has launched a new mini PC called GEM12 Plus in the Chinese market. This compact powerhouse boasts the latest 13th Gen Intel Core i9 processors, offering desktop-grade performance in a space-saving design.

Aoostar GEM12 Plus Specifications:

The GEM12 Plus comes in two processor options: the Intel Core i9-12900HK and the i9-13900H. Both processors are capable of handling demanding tasks like video editing, 3D rendering, and even high-end gaming.

It features a VC (Vapor Chamber) cooling system that efficiently dissipates heat, allowing the system to sustain a 75W power release. This translates to smooth operation even under heavy workloads.

The mini PC supports dual PCIe 4.0×4 interfaces, which can accommodate two 2280 solid-state drives for increased storage capacity up to 2TB. It also supports up to 48GB of dual-channel DDR5 memory at 5200MHz, enhancing multitasking and smooth program transitions.

In terms of connectivity, the mini PC features a USB4 port with 40Gbps transfer speeds, perfect for connecting high-performance peripherals or external storage. Additionally, it boasts a full-function USB-C port, dual 2.5G Ethernet ports for blazing-fast wired networking, and dual HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 ports for connecting up to four 4K displays simultaneously.

The PC also comes with an OCuLink interface. This dedicated port allows for the connection of an external graphics card, significantly boosting graphical capabilities for demanding tasks like gaming or video editing with complex effects. Unlike some competitors, the OCuLink interface on the GEM12 Plus doesn’t occupy the M.2 slots, offering users more flexibility in storage configuration.

For wireless connectivity, the GEM12 Plus comes equipped with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.

The Mini PC comes with a compact form factor, measuring just 13cm x 13cm x 6cm and weighing only 0.66kg, making it easy to fit on a desk or mount behind a monitor for a space-saving setup. The body, CNC-machined from aluminum alloy and finished with sandblasting and anodizing, gives it a premium look and feel. The system is powered by a robust 120W USB-C power supply, providing ample power for all its functions.

Pricing and Availability

The GEM12 Plus is available for purchase now on JD.com in China. Pricing starts at 2449 Yuan (approximately $336) for the barebones model with the Core i9-12900HK processor. With pre-configured options including RAM and storage, the price can reach up to 4499 Yuan (approximately $618) for the Core i9-13900H with 32GB RAM and 1TB storage.

Everyone knows and loves that Samsung is undoubtedly very successful with One UI, which is a stable Android user interface and rich in customization features. Currently, the Galaxy S24 series runs One UI 6.1 based on Android 14. There have already been a few rumors about Samsung working on One UI 7, and now a Geekbench result has revealed that the Galaxy S24+ is running One UI 7.

However, this doesn’t necessarily mean Samsung will release the One UI 7 update anytime soon. It might take a considerable amount of time for Samsung to introduce One UI 7, possibly even extending into 2025.

The Galaxy S24+ was spotted running One UI 7 on Geekbench. The Geekbench result shows the Galaxy S24+ with a single-core score of 2114 and a multi-core score of 6616. The operating system the phone is running is listed as “Android 15,” indicating that Samsung has begun working on the One UI 7 update for the Galaxy S24 series.

Alongside the launch of the CMF Phone 1, the Nothing sub-brand has also announced two new wearables – the CMF Watch Pro 2 and CMF Buds Pro 2. The former arrives as the successor to the last year’s Watch Pro. The newest smartwatch packs significant upgrades over its predecessor. Let’s find out what the device offers out of the box.

CMF Watch Pro 2 specifications and features

The CMF Watch Pro 2 has a circular dial with a 1.32-inch AMOLED display having a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels and auto-brightness mode. It features a 60Hz refresh rate and 620 nits peak brightness for a smooth and bright viewing experience. The device comes with gesture control that can perform customized functions just by shaking or rotating your wrists.

Design-wise, the CMF Watch Pro 2 boasts an aluminium alloy body and a rotating crown on the top right side. It is IP68-certified dust and water-resistant. The USP of the smartwatch is that it comes with interchangeable bezels that lets you customize the look of the device depending on the occasion.

In terms of health and fitness, the CMF Watch Pro 2 is equipped with a heart-rate monitor and SpO2 sensor. It also packs a sleep tracker with nap detection, a menstrual cycle tracker, and activity score. There is breathing training, sedentary reminders, and hydration alerts. The wearable device comes with support for 120 sports modes with auto-detection for some exercises. There are also warmup exercises provided by 3D animations. The CMF Watch Pro 2 with Dark Grey and Dark Ash liquid silicon strap is priced at Rs 4,999/ $69/EUR 69. The Blue and Orange leather strap options cost Rs 5,499. The smartwatch’s bezels and strap set retail at Rs 749.
