According to the company, the design of the Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro Disney Princess Limited Edition is inspired by the Disney classic story “Snow White”. The accessories of the phone also come in the same dark purple color. Even the packaging box comes with a unique poison apple-shaped hand rest, which can be directly attached to the back of the phone when used with the official customized phone case.

From Pixel 9 to Android 15: Here’s what you can expect from the upcoming Made by Google event

Google‘s annual hardware showcase, the Made by Google event, will arrive earlier than usual this year. Traditionally held in October, the 2024 edition will take place on August 13th at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, instead of its usual venue in New York City. Although Google hasn’t revealed much about the event, leaks, rumors, and the official invite teaser give us some hints about what to expect. Here’s a breakdown of what’s likely in store.

Made by Google August 2024 what to expect

Pixel Lineup in Focus

The Pixel series has been the centerpiece of Made by Google events for years, and 2024 will likely be no different. The teaser video for the event features the Roman numeral IX (9), confirming the Pixel 9 series is on its way.

Leaks and rumors so far suggest there could be four devices in the Pixel 9 family:

  • Pixel 9: The base model, expected to succeed the Pixel 8.
  • Pixel 9 Pro: A higher-end version with improved camera specs and processing power.
  • Pixel 9 Pro XL: A new larger version of the Pixel 9 Pro for those who prefer a bigger screen.
  • Pixel 9 Pro Fold: Google is reportedly renaming its foldable phone lineup. Instead of calling it Pixel Fold 2, the moniker will reportedly align with the Pixel 9 series and be branded the “Pixel 9 Pro Fold.”

Although detailed information is scarce, we can expect these devices to feature Google’s upcoming Tensor G4 chip. In fact, three Pixel 9 phones, excluding the foldable, have already been leaked running AnTuTu with the expected G4 chip.

Beyond Pixel Phones

While smartphones will be the main attraction, Google might also showcase other hardware products. A strong contender is the Pixel Watch 3, the successor to the Pixel Watch 2 launched in 2023.

Rumors suggest that the Pixel Watch 3 will come in two sizes: the standard 41mm and a new XL model with a 45mm display. With the Pixel phones expected in August, a similar timeframe for the Pixel Watch 3 seems plausible.

There’s also a possibility of Google unveiling other hardware at the event, such as new Pixel Buds or a Nest smart home device. However, there haven’t been any substantial leaks or rumors to suggest such announcements.

Android 15

The Made by Google event isn’t just about hardware. Google is likely to dedicate a portion of the event to showcasing the next iteration of its mobile operating system, Android 15.

The first teaser captioned “Get Ready for Magic at Made by Google” also suggests a focus on Google AI. We could expect advancements in Assistant capabilities or new AI-powered features integrated into Pixel devices and other products.

Livestream

Specific details about the livestream haven’t been announced. However, based on past events, it’s safe to expect a live stream on YouTube.

All in all, the Made by Google 2024 event will likely feature the next generation of Pixel smartphones, including a foldable phone, alongside software updates like Android 15 and advancements in Google AI.

OnePlus Pad Pro launched with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and larger display

As scheduled, OnePlus has launched the Pad Pro tablet. According to Business Standard, the OnePlus Pad Pro is positioned as an enhanced version of the OnePlus Pad launched in February last year with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset, rather than a successor.

OnePlus Pad Pro key specifications:

The OnePlus Pad Pro offers excellent performance improvement with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This is paired with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. For reference, this device reaches an AnTuTu score of 2316067, which definitely sets a new record for Android tablets.

On the outside, the device houses a 12.1″ 3K IPS LCD display that offers a refresh rate of 144Hz and a peak brightness of 900 nits. To give you a better idea, the panel offers a pixel density of 303PPI, which is higher than that of a 6.5″ smartphone with a 720p display. The screen adopts an exclusive 7:5 golden aspect ratio.

The panel is also considered eye-safe with the “Bright Eye Protection” technology, which supports DC dimming, hardware-level low blue light, natural light display, melatonin protection, and ultra-precise ambient light adaptation.

The OnePlus Pad from last year comes with a slightly smaller (11.61″) display with slightly lower (296PPI) pixel density. However, the new product houses the same 9510mAh battery and supports 67W wired charging.

The new tablet also offers some innovations in interconnection functions and improves the connectivity between devices for easier file transfer or screen mirroring.

Pricing:

The OnePlus Pad Pro comes in four storage and memory configurations – 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB, and 16GB+512GB. The respective prices are listed below.

8GB + 128GB: 2,799 yuan (~$385)
8GB + 256GB: 2,999 yuan (~$412)

Infinix Note 40 5G hands-on: A surprising mid-ranger with wireless charging

The Infinix Note 40 5G is a new entrant in the mid-range smartphone segment, offering a compelling blend of impressive features and an attractive price point. However, it enters a crowded market with several competitors. After spending some time with the device, here’s what it brings to the table.

1. Design and Display

Infinix Note 40 5G

The Infinix Note 40 5G features a polycarbonate body available in two shades: Titan Gold and Obsidian Black. It offers IP54-rated splash resistance, has a slim profile of 7.9mm, and weighs 185 grams. The retail package of the device includes the Note 40 5G, a Mag Case, 33W charger, and some documents.

On the front, the Note 40 5G has a 6.78-inch AMOLED display that’s a joy to use. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth scrolling and fluid animations, enhancing both everyday tasks and gaming experiences. The screen’s brightness and color reproduction is excellent, even in direct sunlight. The screen offers a peak brightness of 1300 nits.

With slim bezels, the Note 40 5G provides an impressive screen-to-body ratio. The dual stereo speakers, enhanced by JBL, deliver decent sound quality for multimedia consumption.

2. Performance and Software

Infinix Note 40 5G

The Infinix Note 40 5G is powered by the same Dimensity 7020, which powers the Note 50 Pro 5G and the Note 40 Pro+ 5G. The said chip, which is said to be a rebranded Dimensity 930, is good enough for casual gaming. The SoC is coupled with 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and ample 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The phone features a dedicated slot for adding a microSD card.

The phone runs on XOS 14, Infinix’s custom Android skin based on Android 14, promising two years of Android updates and 36 months of security patches. Infinix has done a commendable job in cutting down the number of preinstalled apps. As usual, the XOS 14 offers several customization options to personalize your experience.

The primary 108-megapixel rear camera and the 32-megapixel front-facing camera capture impressive shots with vibrant colors. The dedicated macro and depth sensors also enhance the photography experience. Here are some camera samples shot using the phone.

The 5,000mAh battery of the Note 40 5G easily lasts a full day with moderate to heavy use, thanks to Infinix’s intelligent power-saving optimizations. The included 33W charger can fully charge the phone in about an hour.  The phone supports up to 15W magnetic wireless charging. However, you need to place the phone in the provided Mag Case to enable magnetic wireless charging.

Using the MagPad wireless charging pad, it takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach a 50 percent charge. The magnetic wireless charging feature ensures the phone stays securely in place in the charging area. This setup keeps your desk tidy and your phone within easy reach, allowing you to use the phone without removing it from the pad. Additionally, the Note 40 5G supports reverse charging, enabling you to charge other devices both wired and wirelessly.

For those unfamiliar, wireless charging support remains uncommon among phones in India. A few options include the Note 40 Pro 5G, Note 40 Pro+ 5G, Motorola Edge 50, and Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, all of which support 15W wireless charging. The midrange standout is the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, offering 50W wireless charging but priced higher at Rs 34,999 (~$420).

3. Camera and Additional Features

1x

As the name suggests, the Note 40 5G supports 5G networks. It also offers Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC for seamless connectivity. An IR remote control is a nice addition to the device, which is not commonly found on most competing phones. The phone’s side-mounted fingerprint sensor is fast and reliable. While I prefer a phone without a 3.5mm audio jack, many others will appreciate that the phone retains the 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a plus for audiophiles.

Infinix Note 40 5G

The Active Halo Light feature on the Infinix Note 10 5G enhances user interaction by dynamically adjusting the phone’s backlight in response to different activities. It illuminates when notifications arrive from apps like Facebook, Chrome, Gmail, and Meet, ensuring users promptly notice incoming messages. When the phone is charging, the backlight activates, providing visual feedback that the device is powering up. Opening games trigger the backlight to enhance the gaming experience, while playing music, particularly from apps like YouTube Music, synchronizes with the backlight for added immersion. Additionally, using the Voice Assistant prompts the backlight to activate, aligning with user interactions, thereby enriching the overall usability and interaction dynamics of the device.

4. Final Thoughts

Infinix Note 40 5G

The Infinix Note 40 5G offers a compelling package for budget-conscious consumers looking for a phone between Rs 15,000 (~$180) to Rs 20,000 (~$240). It is the only phone in its price segment to support wireless charging. Another standout feature is the Halo Active LED light. Its strengths lie in its vibrant display, ample storage space, battery and charging capabilities, and decent camera performance. Some of the competing phones in its price segment that have launched in the past six months in India include the OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite, Vivo T3 5G, iQOO Z9 5G, Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G, Realme P1 Pro 5G, and Poco X6 5G.

Infinix Note 40 5G price in India

The Infinix Note 40 5G is available in the following options in India:

  • 8GB+256GB: Rs 19,999 (~$180)
  • Colors: Obsidian Black and Titan Gold

Xbox Cloud Gaming Lands on Amazon Fire TV Sticks in July

Microsoft has partnered with Amazon to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to Fire TV Sticks, expanding access to over 25 countries starting in July 2024. This allows Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members to play games directly on select Fire TV devices.

Xbox Gaming Amazon Fire TV

The Xbox app will be available on the 2023 Fire TV Stick 4K Max ($59.99) and Fire TV Stick 4K ($49.99). Users will need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, a compatible Fire TV Stick, a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller, and a reliable internet connection.

Getting Started

To start gaming:

  1. Install the Xbox app from the Amazon Appstore on your Fire TV Stick.
  2. Sign in with your Microsoft account.
  3. Connect a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller (compatible options include the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, PlayStation DualSense, or DualShock 4).
  4. Start playing.
Xbox Gaming Amazon Fire TV

Game Pass Ultimate members get access to a large library of games, including “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II,” “Starfield,” and “Forza Horizon 5.” Fallout fans can also play “Fallout 76” and “Fallout 4” alongside the new Fallout TV show on Prime Video. Non-members can enjoy games like “Fortnite.”

This partnership makes gaming more accessible and convenient, especially for those without a console. The Fire TV Stick’s portability allows gamers to play on the go by taking their Fire TV Stick and controller with them.

Cost-Effective Alternative

This collaboration offers a cost-effective solution compared to Microsoft’s previous plan to launch a standalone Xbox streaming device, which was canceled due to high costs. The Fire TV Stick provides a similar experience at a lower price point, making cloud gaming more affordable.

In related news, Microsoft has recently unveiled a White Xbox Series X color option along with 1TB of storage priced at $449.99. This is a cheaper alternative for games who do not wish to spend $599.99 for the 2T Galaxy Black version of the console.

Renders hint at a pink color variant of the Galaxy Z Fold6

Samsung will launch a sixth-generation foldable at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled to be held on July 10th. We already know quite a few things about the upcoming foldables thanks to numerous leaks, rumors, and appearances on certification listings. The phone will come with a slightly wider screen and will have sharper corners somewhat similar to the design language of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. According to a previous rumor from tipster Ice Universe, the width of the Galaxy Z Fold6’s outer screen is 60.2 mm, while the width of the Galaxy Z Fold5 is 57.4 mm, an increase of 5%.

Galaxy Z Fold6 renders have emerged in three different colors

Now the latest news is that the book-style foldable will have a pink color option. Passionategeekz has shared renderings of the phone in three different colors – pink, blue, and silver. Notably, the Galaxy Z Fold6 could be the first Galaxy foldable with a pink color variant. In addition to the above colors, tipster Ice Universe revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold6 will also come with black and white colors in the online market.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 will boast a 7.6″ inner screen, which is the same as the Galaxy Z Fold5. However, the schematic of the phone shows a wider 8:6.9 aspect ratio as compared to the predecessor. The phone will be 132.6mm and 153.5mm in width and length respectively. For context, the width and length of the Z Fold5 in the unfolded position are 129.9mm and 154.9mm respectively. In addition to that, previously leaked image of the phone have revealed a slimmer top and bottom bezel on the outer screen.

On the inside, the phone will boast the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

If the renders are accurate, the camera module protrusion might be slightly increased compared to its predecessor. However, tipster Ice Universe has previously claimed that the phone will feature the exact same cameras as its predecessor. Thus, we will have to wait and see if Samsung has indeed kept the camera system unchanged.
